Anderson's story of heartache and ambition reminds us that we can sit back and settle with the life in front of us or take a chance and try your hardest to make life the best.

Reading Anderson's story of a brutal young life growing up, an abusive family, not having graduated, and a dream to come to the USA knowing he will be undocumented AND still succeeding, doing what he does best, is a reminder we all can have the ambition to take what life gave us and make the most out of it.

Anderson Gomes writes a very personal and heartwarming tale about his journey to the US from Brazil. He tells his story honestly and with integrity, teaching the world that there is always a way to find hope.

Gomes begins his story in Brazil with his brother, father, and mother. His father is highly abusive, often hitting his mother and the rest of the family. Gomes is constantly put in harm's way but always finds a way to keep himself out of trouble. When he stands up to his father, he is often shoved and pushed aside. His friends, many of whom have turned to drugs, alcohol, and stealing, are a source of struggle for him as well.

However, my father did not discipline me. He hit me. Many times, a beating would come without warning, and it was dictated by the way he was feeling at the moment

From a young age, Gomes is destined for greatness. He is driven to push himself forward, constantly striving and never giving up. When he finds a way to escape to Mexico, paying a man in Brazil $1,500, he embarks on a tumultuous journey, hoping for a better life and success. Upon arriving, he encounters many roadblocks. Living in Boston, his two Brazilian roommates, unmotivated, hold Gomes back. They steal, do drugs, and drink—much like his friend back home.

If Gomes wants to succeed, he realizes he must immerse himself in American culture, learn the language, find a proper job, and work hard. As he recalls, his best job was as a dish lineman at Olive Garden. However, he lost many jobs when it was revealed that he was undocumented.

Eventually, Gomes meets his wife, Trina. Gomes takes a considerable risk and starts a cleaning company with her and her family's support. We follow along

Undocumented is a book that will believe in the American dream and continuously has you cheering the main character. This is a reminder that believing in yourself, working hard, and never giving up is the actual equation toward success.

Like anything in life, you've got to be persistent. Don't take the first no that someone gives you. Keep on persisting, keep on asking, and eventually you're going to get a yes

The writing was slightly choppy, but English is not the author's first language. Overall, it's an incredible journey, chronicling the journey toward success and freedom.
