Another book that just came out fresh from the oven for me in 2020 that I am reading in 2020 just a couple of months after it got published. Contemporary literature is as important and relevant as any other. The author has a good background in my eyes, which made the book appealing. Not only does she have success for over 25 years with the things she is speaking about, but has also written another book previously. In this one however, she tackles the issue of inflexibility when it comes to leaders who are stuck in a traditional way of thinking and also refuse change. Versatility is more important than ever due to the digital revolution and although this idea is not new in itself, the book offers advice with the transition which is fundamental to being a great leader in the now (and perhaps always). Uncertainty is the main characteristic of our time and I enjoyed the comparison done with the 'earlier days' when things were easier to predict and change didn't happen at such an alarming pace. Some strategies however remain very relevant up to today. Seeing the bigger picture therefore becomes crutial, as well as knowing which details matter and which details to pass over. I found appeal in the discussions regarding the 'fourth industrial revolution' as I encounter it often in books written in the past 2 years, where discussions or considerations of AI are becomming the norm. However, aside from some of these interesting ideas that are only briefly thrown into the spotlight, the rest of the book doesn't really offer anything completely new per se. But it does do a good job at giving direction and asking good quesitons. Not an awful read, definitely something you can speed-read through while taking some notes. Very relevant to leaders if they've not come in contact with other similar materials.
Future leaders could shape the future. As leaders, you must decide on the kind of future you want to create, and the strategies for how to get there. Moreover, keep an eye on current developments while motivating your team. Leaders should also demonstrate clear visions, while having a good amount of affirmative actions with self-confidence. If you do not have confidence in yourself, then it is likely no one else will.
Persistence and self-confident are gold here. No one can predict the future, but we can help to build it. In this dynamic world, is up to all of us, as leaders, to choose what kind of future we desire to create. First of all you need to believe in yourself, because, if you don't who will?
