The International Bestseller, as featured in The Times
Fat is a vital yet hugely under-rated organ.
Fat has become a dirty word, but we know so little about how it really works. In Fat, expert doctors and obesity researchers Dr Mariëtte Boon and Professor Liesbeth van Rossum present the ground-breaking research which explodes many of the myths and prejudices surrounding body fat and will make us completely rethink our relationship with it.
Making use of the cutting-edge research in this specialist field, this fascinating and entertaining book will explain how fat generates important hormones, communicates with our brains and is, indeed, essential for staying alive. Informative yet accessible, The Secret Organ is important reading, not only for people who have struggled with their weight, but for everybody who is serious about their health.
My doctor here in the Netherlands recommended this book, in order to gain an understanding of both the positives and negatives of fat. This quick read contains many interesting facts; however, it was repetitive at times. I feel the structure could have been a little more reader-friendly, and I believe some thoughts were lost in translation. With that said, if you come across this book, it's worth borrowing and learning some new little tidbits.
I love how even though the book is based on science and medicine, it is an easy read for those not in these fields. Also a surprising page turner due to how it is filled with the stories of real life experiences by real people. They also give you simple tips on life style changes that can help with health and weight loss. A fantastic read! Love it!
