There was nothing romantic about this book.

Let's see...in the process of the story, this happened:

Hero got heroine fired from her job because he "just knew" she had something to do with his brother's death.

In anger, hero grabs heroine by her throat a couple times and almost chokes her to death before letting go. This happened more than once.

He called her c*m sl*t, wh*re, gold-digging wh*re, just to name a few of the names he called her.

He blackmailed her into being at his beck and call for two months and in exchange he gave her $$. Money she used to help her addict brother get into rehab and pay off loans he owed.

Hero humilated her every chance he got.

She made breakfast one day, he made her do it again because there was a tiny shell in his eggs. His bacon wasn't cooked to his liking so he threw the plate on the floor and made her start over.

He took the door off the hinges of the room she was using because she dared to lock it against him.

He whipped her with a belt because she left the house after he told her she did not have his permission to go anywhere.

When the truth finally came out, and the only guilty ones were the hero and his POS mother, he didn't grovel at all and heroine just took him back.

This was not sexy at all. This came off as abusive and personally, the heroine should have had a restraining order against the hero and his mother.

The mistress of redeemable alpha assholes is back in this poignant yet smoldering tale of covetous love, retribution, and second chances. The story of Frankie, a nurse, and Nick, a successful lawyer, dating and lovers until Frankie marries Nick's brother.

love embrace

The story unfolds after the death of Nick's brother. Is Frankie an opportunist and complicit in his death? Told from both characters' points of view with a notable insight into Nick's thoughts and feelings, Nick mets out justice to Frankie, unprepared and secretly still having feelings for him, and their full-circle love affair.

Frankie portrays a quiet strength, altruistic, and calm in trying of circumstances. Nick is the relentless alpha, shaped by his conviction in Frankie's betrayal. Then, there is Nick's mother, unapologetic in her interactions. The storyline captures the dynamics in their relationship influenced by the belief in Frankie's misdeeds and Frankie's bargain to support her home situation. Was Nick over the top, irredeemable in fact? No, I say: bring it. This book contained dark themes. I loved his dominating and tortured character. And Frankie wasn't without claws. She fought back in her feisty calm way.

As usual, the virtual pages of my e-reader incinerated at the imaginative and frankly panty-wetting love scenes. Definitely some hot and welcome kink in this book.

love scene

A little shorter novel than her previous works, and not the most original of themes, but still packing a punch, it hits those notes and characteristics I love in her work. I very much enjoyed this book and can't wait to read her upcoming stories.

CW: Dubious Consent and Domestic Violence

This book fetishized physical violence and sexual assault. What was supposed to be a revenge novel reads as an attempt to justify violent behavior. Nick blames Frankie, his ex-girlfriend, for the death of his brother and utilizes her reduced circumstances to seek revenge. Having a heroine believed to be guilty of murder is used as
justification for Nick’s violence and abuse. This is not acceptable to me. There is nothing endearing in a supposed romance hero that has to say, “sorry I almost choked you to death, I was just sad my brother died” . I would suggest anyone who has issues with degradation and assault on page read this book with caution if you read it at all.

I really enjoy this author and have read a lot of her books and totally enjoyed them.
I get that Nick was supposed to be the bad guy to degrade and treat Frankie badly. I had no issue with that, what I thought was unconvincing to me was that Frankie would still lap up all that degrading stuff and be responsive to him whilst he calls her names and totally degrades her. Then when she should have had him at her mercy and give him hell, she just could not find it in her heart to be horrible to him??? I am not saying they could not have their happy ever after but no woman would just fall into a man's arms after he so thoroughly treated her like shit under his shoes. Sorry not believable. I was offended for Frankie.

First thing first, Nick was a world class “A”. The way he treated Frankie was really cringe worthy.
Eve Vaughn’s book Covet was about Frankie leaving the Nick years prior and marrying his brother who had a disability . Unbeknownst to Nick, Frankie actually married his brother because his mother was not giving him the proper care he needed.

I must say that this book was another 5 star worthy book, the lust, pain and love could have been felt thought out this book. The only thing I wasn’t happy about (in my opinion) is that Nick should have been made to grovel longer but then again his personality would not have allowed it.
All in all, I’d definitely recommend this book as a good read

The author did a good job in regards to keeping it entertaining story going. Writing is pretty good and I do enjoy this type of concept.
Nicholas was a bit of a hard character to like and to hate because I knew why he did the things he did but his remorse seemed to be portrayed in a weird way if that makes any sense.
The FMC was cool, kind, and strong. Although she gave and I respect the fight.

I’m happy where the story ended I do think some of the things were a bit of a stretch however for storytelling purposes it’s fine I was able to overlook it

I would give the story 3 1/2 stars I went ahead and gave it for to round up it was pretty short and easy read.
I would read more from this author

Just no

My opinion of the book might be controversial but I was really disappointed in Frankie. First of all, let’s say that Nick’s behavior was appalling. Yes she needed the money and agreed but how he treated her was abusive.
However Frankie had the key, and instead of doing the right thing she run off with Kenny. Let’s be honest, I know Nick shot her down, however she didn’t tell him everything that she suspected nor did she tell him about talking to his mother and the inconsistencies. If she really couldn’t talk, she could have written a letter with all the details including the fact that Kenny went for a second opinion. If Nick still didn’t believe then fine. Arguably Kenny could have done the same but one, he was sick and probably overwhelmed, two he was clearly in love with Frankie and wanted her for himself considering he only had 2-3 years to live. Frankie was the person of power in this situation and should have been clearer headed. I understand her pressures from her brother’s issues but frankly I don’t buy her excuses. She could have asked Nick for a loan, and although he despised addicts he would have probably helped her. Let’s face it, however good her intentions, marrying his brother isn’t something Nick would have gotten over easily. She broke his heart. Also as a nurse, not turning Dr Larski in was wrong. It’s all great for Kenny to be magnanimous but what about the other vulnerable patients?
Robin was also awful. As a young person not telling her brother fine but as she aged how could she let her brother Kenny to die at the hands of their mother and not say anything concrete? I’m not so sure that I would have been so keen to reconnect.

Now, first up, as a very strong Pro for this book, it tackles some dark and complicated issues for a romance novel. Munchausen syndrome by proxy is not an easy thing to write about and get right, but I feel like the author really nailed it as best she could in a romance novel. The mix of overt and subtle emotional abuse and physical abuse, the way family members give up trying to fix it because it's just too much, to intangible and too hurtful so you turn a blind eye because "As long as it ain't me!" That part of the plot was very well done.

That being said, it's a horrible romance. It's essential humiliation raceplay rapeplay porn without the n-word. Imagine reading the story behind one of those images. Yeah...

The heroine is abused from the start but I can't feel sorry for her because she's a doormat. She's choked repeatedly - and not choked as in sexy breathplay but as in attempted murder and physical assault. She is repeatedly physically and sexually assaulted throughout the novel.

When I'm reading about two people falling in love I don't want to see the hero choking the heroine until her eyes are bulging out. I know people will call this bdsm but it's really not. There's a scene involving knifeplay and I legitimately thought he was going to start cutting off her breasts. It had me thinking of documentaries about war criminals in Africa...

There's no falling in love, just a heroine who tolerates being spat on, choked, insulted in the worse ways and raped, and a "hero" who's a toxic abusive mummy's boy with zero redeeming qualities. It doesn't have those chapters where the hero does something self-sacrificial or where he's punished for his cruelty or anything. Hell, the HEA is from his point of view. He's just living his best life.

I've disliked alpha male heroes before and alphaholes as well, but this guy takes the cake. I didn't think I would ever come to hate a romance novel hero, but here we are. I'm always complaining about novels not having enough conflict, but this was too much. Rapists with knives shouldn't have a happy ending.

Without the forced HEA where the heroine is like, "We all good," this would have been a decent book. If she'd found some inner strength and reported him to the police or something... If she'd come out on top, then that would have been a happy ending. As it is, the ending is disturbing af.

Is a romance novel with a happy ending but no love or romance still a romance novel???

Nick and Frankie had chemistry but Nick was so stubborn and didn't listen to her, didn't let her talk. What he did to her... In my eyes, Frankie shouldn't forgive him! At all! All those bad words, treating her so terrible... Frankie just wiped all away... She didn't have a back bone with him. The writing is good

It’s a no for me

The subject matter was just too much. The humiliation/rape Frankie went through all because Nick didn’t know the whole story and had to get revenge. It was ridiculous, one for it to happen and then two for her to put up with it and then get back with him at the end. This wasn’t romance no real love. It’s a No for me. Idk wht the author was going for with this one but for me it missed its mark. That wasn’t a HEA that was stupid.

Heeeeeellllllll No!!!

If I could give this book zero stars, I would. The “hero” is a whole abusive rapist who uses his anger, sadness, and assumptions about his brother’s death to rape, abuse, degrade, and almost kill the “heroine.” And homegirl makes doormats look like lions. She is ridiculous and has a martyr complex a mile wide. That being said, she was still likable at different parts but there was never enough character development to explain why she may have been the way she was and there was no amount of character development that would have excused the things he did to her. If someone forces themselves on you while you’re sleep, no matter how your body responds, and degrades you until you are sobbing, it’s abuse, plain and simple. I won’t even get into how triggering this book should be for abuse victims and how disgusting it is considering the centuries old sexual violence black women have endured at the hands of white men. This was my first book by this author. It will also be my last.

It’s a no from me, dog

This was a no go for me. I think this was an attempt to write something akin to BDSM and it was nothing close, just violence from Nick. Example: “released her wrists and wrapped my hands around her throat and squeezed with all my might. Frankie clawed at my hands and tried to break free. Her eyes bulged, and I realized that if I continued, I would actually kill her. I released my grip on her and pulled away. Frankie gasped and coughed.” ..... This is the 3rd time he strangled her like this. So not sexy or “dominant “ or “alpha”. Even with what he THOUGHT she did (with no proof) all the things were unnecessary. Per usual they ended up together but girl why???
NO THANK YOU

Different Style

The story is a different style but the different style did not make the story a bad book. The heroes language and behavior was harsh on the heroine because what he believed she did. I only wished he groveled a bit more before the story completed. The few errors l found did not distract from my reading.

I’m kinda at lost for words. Let’s start with the mother, I picked up on the signs from the beginning. Nick honestly wouldn’t survive the me too movement. That’s all I’m going to say.

Not my taste

It was well written, but she was to selfless for my taste. He would have been missing a few body parts for his treatment of me. I like my heroine a with a little more backbone.

Someone hand me some bleach so I can scrub this terrible story from my mind.

I watch a lot of crime shows, and this one particular one I watched was about a serial rapist. They actually interviewed the rapist and he believed that what did to his victims wasn't rape, and do you want to know how he reached that delusional conclusion? Because he performed oral sex on his victims. In his mind, since he did that first, it meant he wasn't really raping them since rapists don't care about performing cunnilingus. Well, I won't say that was Nick's thinking, but I will say it might be the author's.

Some authors have this slimy and sneaky way of trying to justify sexual assault/rape and that's by having their heroine secretly enjoy it. I won't discount the fact there is a special group of ladies out there who have rape fantasies, however, authors of these "romance" books aren't writing about those type of women. They're usually writing about your average, every day, run of the mill woman who just wants someone to love, respect, cherish, honor, and protect them. What they get instead are these entitled, predatory, dangerous, stalkerish, rapist psychos. They give them big dicks and chiseled jawlines and smoldering eyes and bad boy mystique as further justification for the horrible and degrading way they treat the heroines. And of course the heroine is always at the mercy of her hormones although she knows and feels the way she's being treated is despicable, but nope there are orgasms to be had, no time for self-worth, respect, love, preservation, or esteem.

I wouldn't wish Nick on any woman.

I really do wish authors, especially female authors would stop writing books where the guy is an abhorrent rapist and rewarding them with HEA's, instead of having them be led away in handcuffs. Where is the freaking justice here?! It just leads me to wonder if they hate women as well. Because, why? Why would you pen a book where your heroine is being beaten, literally treated like a slave, being raped repeatedly, and not by the villain but by the man she loves? I...

Anyways, here are some of the "charming" endearments Nick called Frankie, the woman he supposedly couldn't get over and "loved":

1) Whore
2) Bitch
3) Cunt

I'm sure there were some other colorful names he called her, but those were his favorites.

I don't have too much to say about Frankie other than I wish she wouldn't have taken Nick back. Just remembered how blase her attitude was about what was happening to her. Girl, was just too chill and that just wasn't realistic. At. all!

Oh, and let's talk about how he "made it up to her". After realizing the real reason why Frankie dumped him and married his brother, and wasn't responsible for his death, he said sorry a couple of times, and then...wait for it...kidnapped her and took her back to his house where he damn near killed her. Yes, I forgot to mention that he nearly choked her to death in his rage.

There was no groveling, no contrition. He had major anger and jealousy issues, and did nothing on paper to make amends. But nope, Frankie was just happy to take him back.

I advise no one to read this book. You'll be infuriated as you do and mad at yourself for finishing. If you manage to get to the end.

Nobody and I mean nobody writes a mean Alpha A-Hole/Bully like Eve Vaughn, she should be teaching class to authors that want to write about a cruel hero. This is an absolute compliment to Vaughn's skill as a seasoned writer.

The hero and his mama are both mean and bitter. Let me just say for the record, if you spit on a person that means YOU want YOUR face rearranged because that is one of the nastiest things you can do to a person.

We meet Frankie, Nick and his mama at the funeral of his brother. Nick and his mama are convinced Frankie killed their loved one, though the coroner ruled his death was due to natural causes but you can't reason with crazy people.

Nick makes Frankie an offer and issues an ultimatum. When trouble lands on her doorstep, she's forced to acknowledge that she's in a financial bind and needs a quick infusion of cash for personal reasons. Through dire circumstances, she's forced to throw herself at the mercy of Nick. He shows her absolutely no mercy and uses her dire circumstances against her. He's quite mean and cruel.

When realization finally sinks him, and he admonishes himself for his treatment of Frankie, it was a step in the right direction, despite his remorsefulness, his caveman antics didn't win me over. He definitely needed professional help and it should have been her ultimatum to him before any forgiveness took place.

Recommended: Read It!

Demented, Manipulative,

For an outsider to harm you, that's one thing, but your own mother doing it is on a whole other level. Nick left home as s[n As he could to get away from his mother as did his sister. That left his brother Kenny, who had cerebral palsy. Nicks girlfriend Frankie, who was a nurse figured it out and in an attempt to save Kenny and not turn their mother in to the authorities, she married Kenny. Fast forward years later, Nick seeks revenge and what a story. Great book.

True love is not EASY

This love story was definitely not your typical story. There was lot of hurt, lie, ugliness, reflecting to be done between Nick and Frankie. Nick had some serious issues that definitely need to be address before he could truly love of Frankie. Now Frankie had past demons and lose ends to deal with before reaching a stable relationship with Nick. Also family suck sometimes and hurts us the most. Trauma and mental health is important to talk about after reading this story. Overall a great read!!!!

I have been waiting on a book from Eve Vaughn for awhile and I wasn't disappointed. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the missing words and grammar errors. This book was about Francesca and Nick who dated each other. Than out of the blue Francesca marries Nick's brother. Francesca definitely put others before herself and took a lot of BS from Nick and his mother. I loved the story and how it unfolded. Good job 👏

What happened?

The story line was great, but the development of the story I was not a fan. Eve female characters are ALWAYS the victim and alpha is ALWAYS a nasty individual until there is light for which the redemption is the last few chapter of the book. I hoping one day that female character who not a victim but strong and the male character actually is on the road. Of redemption and romance before the female gives in at the end.

Ok

This was a ok read. The revenge plot was way over the top. I mean really. Knives, dishes, the name calling. And we just forget the humiliation and degradation. I wish for once, I could read a story where the heroine has a damn backbone. Orgasms are great, but to treated like scum and then say I secretly liked it. Disgusting. It ain’t that much love in the world. In fact, I didn’t feel the love between the two at all.

I was so disturbed by this this book, the emotional trauma was terrible but the physical and sexual abuse was just disturbing. There was nothing redeeming about the Antagonist Nick. The most horrific part of the book was when the author would have the Protagonist Frankie, equate natural involuntary bodily reactions that happened when she was being sexually assaulted with love or attraction. The ending omg! There is no diamond big enough or enough individual or couples counseling.., Lawd!!

This book gives off lifetime movie vibes. It is so dramatic and it sucks you in you can’t wait to get to the end to find out just how many secrets and lies this whole family has. I can’t say I saw most of the ending coming. This book was a surprise I loved it would recommend for anyone to read who was looking for a good story with Drama, passion, and everlasting love.

Nick, Kenny, Francesca, Adam, and sick, deranged mother. This story is a page-turner I couldn’t put it down so I read it in one sitting. Nick loves Francesca and Francesca is Kenny’s salvation and Adam needs rehab but rehab is expensive. What is a girl to do? Read this story to find out.

I don't think this book was proof read or the ARC copy was uploaded. So many unfinished sentences and really stupid mistakes for such an experienced writer. The condition of the book with errors etc spoiled the enjoyment of reading this really good story. I would have given it a 5* for story content if it was really edited and proof read before release.
