Jane Goodall's
dedication to anthropology and respect to animals, especially to chimpanzees, is a great influence to everyone, notably to the young readers of this children's storybook. Her passion and dedication to fulfill her dream to study animals are also quite inspiring. Despite that she can't afford to go to a university, she did everything she can to accomplish her goals even to this day.
A beautiful person, inside and out, Jane Goodall is one of the role models that young kids should look up to. Her vision to set awareness on the African jungles starting to disappear, and the protection of the wildlife animals and their natural habitat are the vital information that this book wants to impart to all readers. Undoubtedly, this is another great book in the Little People, Big Dreams book series that parents and teachers should grab for their children and students.

The names of the chimps must be nearly as well known as the woman who studied them for so many years, Dame Jane Morris Goodall, DBE. She's so familiar to us that we think nothing of referring to her as just Jane.
This is a basic children's board book adapted for very small children, to introduce them to her world of chimpanzees and the natural world that belongs to us all but which we aren't doing such a great job of looking after.
Like many children, Jane had a favourite soft toy, a chimpanzee.
Many kids grow up thinking vaguely they'd like to work with animals, but Jane took it a step further.
Jane dreamed of wild chimpanzees in the jungle.
And you know what? She didn't outgrow her desire. She found a job working in the jungles of Africa!

She studied them for forty years and discovered things scientists found hard to believe.
Jane discovers chimpanzees making tools.
As their habitat is disappearing, she has been making the world aware of how precious these communities of wild animals are and how we must work to save them.
Jane is grey-haired now but is still holding a small chimp and speaking to the public about them.
Because this is an introductory picture book, I have taken the liberty of filling in a few blanks, as I would like to hope an adult might do when reading this with a child. If they don't, perhaps they will be inspired to look her up, if nothing else.
While it states that she discovered chimps make tools, it doesn't say that until then, it was accepted that only humans were capable of that. Since then, we've found many other animals are using and fashioning tools, and we're not quite as exceptional as we'd like to think. Although that's a concept beyond the intended audience (toddlers, I guess), it doesn't hurt to start early!
Something that isn't mentioned (no reason in such a simple book, but it's interesting) is that she has a level of face-blindness (prosopagnosia) which makes it difficult for her to recognise people and chimpanzees until she knows them well. Fortunately, she came to know her jungle family so well that she wrote books about them with wonderful photographs so that we could tell them apart easily.
I hope this basic beginner story will set a few curious kids off on their own journeys of discovery. Who knows where our next explorer will find inspiration?

Having been dissapointed with many books in this series I was pleasantly surprised that this book gave interesting information about Jane Goodhall, told in an interesting way without ugly or anachronistic illustrations.
This was a good book about Jane's life, her work, what she achieved and how she strove to get into her career despite being from a background too poor for university. The photographs of Jane at the back were very touching. I loved the photograph of Jane as a very small child with a teddy monkey.

Jane Goodall by Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a book I requested from NetGalley and it is a terrific book for kids! I have always adored Jane Goodall and this book shows her as a girl and how she got started with her chimpanzee interest. How she grew to love them and to work with them. It is not about her as a woman, just a brief bit at the end, but the bulk is about her ambitions as a young girl! A great role model!!!

Now I have been more than a bit conflicted with the Little People, Big Dreams series, liking and appreciating a select few of the books I have read so far, but sadly for far far too many of the included offerings finding especially the accompanying illustrations of the featured artists, authors, activists etc. aesthetically ugly and sometimes sadly historically anachronistic. And truth be told, I only decided to finally read and review Jane Goodall because I own a copy (on my Kindle for IPad) and yes, that the cover image actually looks visually respectful of Jane Goodall, that Jane Goodall is depicted realistically and pleasantly.
And indeed and very much a more than pleasant personal surprise, Jane Goodall is most definitely one of the few of the Little People, Big Dreams series I have encountered to date where I have found both Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara's narrative and Beatrice Cerocchi's illustrations of equal and positive quality, a solid and engaging marriage of text and images (delightfully and engagingly presenting a both verbally and visually solid general introduction to both Jane Goodall's life and achievements, simply presented but with always more than enough relevant information for young readers to obtain a realistic and enlightening picture of Jane Goodall and how her observations and studies of Chimpanzees in Africa has shown us that they indeed are closely related to us and yes, also make and use tools which knowledge they also pass on to their children, but equally and sadly, but nevertheless most importantly and essentially that Chimpanzees, like many animal species, are also vulnerable, are often critically endangered by and through human encroachment, hunting, the despicable evil of poaching, the so-called exotic pet trade and desperately require help, assistance and protection, both of their surrounds, their living spaces and the sad fact that they are often seen and considered by their human "cousins" as expendable, as a resource, as prey and even as a source of utterly vile and disgusting bush-meat).

Another great addition to the Little People, Big Dream series. I'd highly recommend for any young child who you want to introduce to great historical figures. Goodall's in particular is great for children who love animals. Also cool is that they list a few other children's biography books about the person on the back cover.

This board book is the first I’ve read from the Little People, BIG DREAMS series and it is just wonderful. With the use of a simple story and evocative illustrations, we readers are brought into the center of Jane Goodall’s life and her life long love affair with the world of chimpanzees. While this book introduces a young reader to the ideas of communicating with and learning from another species and also teaching others how to save chimpanzees by helping the environment, it also shows how one woman learned how to follow her dream.
The art work is well done, communicates well what is happening and should resonate with a young audience. I do want to get this for my grandniece!
I definitely recommend this book for young readers in your life.

This wonderful board book bio of the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees captures the imagination and heart. The text is pithy but impactful and the illustrations are beyond charming. Another winner in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series ... one every home, classroom and library should have! 5/5

This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known women for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
I personally admire Jane Goodall not only for her work as a chimpanzee researcher but also for her activism. This little book is definitely a nice way to give children a glimpse of knowledge about chimpanzees and also to show how important it is to preserve their natural habitat.

This is another instalment in the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series, and is just as lovely as the other books. Beatrice Cerocchi's illustrations are lovely, and make great use of pattern and imagination. Jane Goodall is sure to delight and inspire young animal lovers everywhere.

New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the incredible life and work of Jane Goodall. The text and illustrations show Jane as a child playing with her favourite toy, a stuffed monkey. She dreamed of living in the jungle with the chimpanzee. She did not go to college or university, but saved every penny to go to Kenya. Once there she got a job observing chimpanzees in the wild and when being still, they accepted her into their family. She was able to see how much they are like humans. She wrote articles and eventually became well known for her work. She is now an advocate for saving the habitat of the primates as well as conservation and education. This is a child friendly biography with delightful illustrations. It is a story that shows a young woman striving to achieve her dream. This book could be used to teach young children how to write a biography, show that it is important to have a dream and strive to achieve it as well as to introduce them to this well known primatologist. A good book for a school library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book to read via netgalley. The rating, opinions and ideas stated are my own. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars.

I’m so pleased Jane Goodall found her way into this collection of books about ‘little people’ who in growing up realised big dreams.
Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara again pens simple words to capture this simple story of a young girl who grew up to do extraordinary things.
Since this is a book designed for children 4-7 years old it is the start for young readers to learn more and become inspired by true life people.
Subtitled ‘My first Jane Goodall’ you get the impression that many young minds will search for more details about this woman who achieved so much.
Some may say she grew up with a chip on her shoulder.
If you look closer you’ll see it is a chimp.
In celebration of the researcher and scientist who spent time with chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Did much to promote environmental understanding for animals and their endangerment due to constricting habitat.
I have been to the zoo today. I have seen many endangered primates, gibbons and chimpanzees. I was grateful that a young woman realised her childhood dreams and at a time Women did not travel to remote countries had the determination to study her animals at work and play.
Another fine book for children we all need to grasp and learn its message.

I think this is one of the stronger board-book versions of these books that I've read. I'm still not sure why babies and toddlers would want to read biographies, but at least the pictures in this one are fun to look at and aren't too anachronistic (a trait that plagues some of the other titles in this series).
This book gives a very basic overview of Jane Goodall's life and work. I have a feeling I'd like the full version better, but for what it is, this board book is okay.

I love these picture book introductions to famous women of history.
And I espcially love that I learned things about Jane Goodall that I didn't know before.
Little things, such as she received a stuffed monkey as a child, and that was the start of her being interested in chimps and apes
Or that the professor that she worked with in Africa was Louis Leakey, the man who discovered Lucy, one of the most improtant fossil finds on ancient human kind.
Great little book, and a good introduction to the work that Jane Goodall did to get she is. I recommend this book for home and classroom.

2,5/5. I don't know what happen with this collection. This has gone from being a high class biography collection for kids to just an average one, especially on the ebook version I get. Again with this one, no cover (in my digital edition) and the contents felt too short, yes they are for kids, but I remember them going a bit deeper and having more contents, now they barely fly over it very quickly...

This is one in a series of stand-alone books briefly detailing the lives of inspirational women. This one is about the famed primatologist Jane Goodall. She loved chimpanzees but could not afford to go to university to study them so she worked hard for her passage to Africa and through tireless work and dedication managed to create her dream career doing what she loved. The book also touches on the importance of conservation work. It’s aimed at four to seven year olds and is utterly charming with delightful illustrations and a brilliant message regarding achieving your goals and the significance of the environment.

Jane Goodall has been a very determined woman from her early childhood on. She knew early on what she wanted to do in life and she continues to not only do that, she continues to inspire people.

Another great entry in this wonderful series of mini-biographies of noted women.
The illustrations are very sweet and one gets a real feel for Ms. Goodall's life.

This was a very short and simple read, yet it was capable of teaching us a very important lesson.
You are allowed to chase your dreams and to make them come true, but do not forget that it will not come easy, you will have to work for the things you want in life.
This was such a cute story with such a strong lesson, I adore this.

Mooi om te zien dat het op jonge leeftijd door iemand voorgelezen worden zo’n impact kan hebben op je verdere leven.
Kleine Jane kreeg een knuffel van haar vader; het was een dier dat ook te maken had met het verhaal dat door haar moeder voorgelezen werd.
Haar liefde voor wilde dieren was geboren!
Helaas had ze geen geld om naar de universiteit te gaan om wilde dieren te bestuderen. Maar geen probleem voor Jane: ze spaarde elke cent totdat ze geld genoeg had om per boot naar Kenia te reizen.
Haar moeder had haar altijd op het hart gedrukt nooit op te geven en haar droom te volgen.
Het begin was gemaakt voor Jane, want in Kenia leert ze iemand kennen die (zo voelde het) op haar gewacht had om chimpansees in het wild te bestuderen in Tanzania. En ze vertrok…
Weer een stap dichterbij haar droom!
In Tanzania moet ze heel veel geduld hebben; ze ziet geen chimpansees maar voelt dat ze in de gaten gehouden wordt.
“Al snel zag Jane dat er aardige en rustige chimpansees in de groep zaten, maar ook een paar bullebakken. Ze leken eigenlijk heel erg op mensen.”
Uiteindelijk mocht Jane door haar ongelooflijke werk in Afrika bij de Universiteit van Cambridge komen afstuderen in het gedrag van dieren; maar daar hield het niet op voor deze vrouw. De regenwouden verdwenen overal!
Ze wilde álle dieren beschermen en wierp zich op als voorvechtster voor het behoud van de natuur en alle dieren die erin leven.
De boodschap van Jane Goodall is: behandel de dieren met respect en leef net zoals chimpansees dat doen, in harmonie met de natuur. Als zij het kunnen, kunnen wij het ook.
Dit verhaal over Jane Goodall is met recht opgenomen in deze serie met verhalen over ongelooflijke vrouwen, sterk en gepassioneerd, die in staat waren om hun dromen waar te maken.
Ook deze keer zal het lezen van ‘Van klein TOT GROOTS’ met als onderwerp Jane Goodall een verrijking zijn voor de lezer.
Ik heb het boek graag gelezen en genoot van de mooie illustraties van Beatrice Cerocchi; ze vervolmaken het verhaal.

Uiteindelijk mocht Jane door haar ongelooflijke werk in Afrika bij de Universiteit van Cambridge komen afstuderen in het gedrag van dieren; maar daar hield het niet op voor deze vrouw. De regenwouden verdwenen overal!
Ze wilde álle dieren beschermen en wierp zich op als voorvechtster voor het behoud van de natuur en alle dieren die erin leven.
De boodschap van Jane Goodall is: behandel de dieren met respect en leef net zoals chimpansees dat doen, in harmonie met de natuur. Als zij het kunnen, kunnen wij het ook.
Dit verhaal over Jane Goodall is met recht opgenomen in deze serie met verhalen over ongelooflijke vrouwen, sterk en gepassioneerd, die in staat waren om hun dromen waar te maken.
Ook deze keer zal het lezen van ‘Van klein TOT GROOTS’ met als onderwerp Jane Goodall een verrijking zijn voor de lezer.
Ik heb het boek graag gelezen en genoot van de mooie illustraties van Beatrice Cerocchi; ze vervolmaken het verhaal.

At last, a board book in this series about someone I've actually had the pleasure of meeting. Dr Jane Goodall does something to do with chimpanzees in this book, and if you didn't know that then the word features five and a half times in twelve double-page spreads, just to drum it in. At least the shift to a more ecological bent, in reference to Jane's more recent media/campaigning persona, is there as a better lesson. I do think these books are fine primers to great lives, but I do think that in taking them right down to the bare bones of biography where so little information is conveyed, they do a disservice. I've yet to see an example where they are on a par with the wordier editions that remain vital for those just a couple of years older.

This is another brilliant addition to this series – even as an adult I look out for the next book in the series being released. I love the images in this series and this is a delightful introduction to Jane Goodall, a lady who fascinated me as a child!
They are excellent introductions to some of the well-known, and less well-known, characters that have had a great impact in our lives through a variety of subjects such as literature, women’s rights and science. Jane is an inspiration to me and her story should be shared with children to show what she managed to achieve in what was predominately a male field at that time.

The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.

También mencioné esta serie "Pequeña & Grande" como parte de las colecciones que destacan a mujeres pioneras, con un enfoque especial para niñas y cuya característica principal es que están en verso. De toda la serie, este es uno de los libros mejor logrados, especialmente por el trabajo de Cerocchi con los dibujos y el uso del color y las frases sobre cómo despertó la vocación de Goodall en el trabajo con los primates.

Little People, Big Dreams continues to be a wonderful series for kids to learn about incredible women who've made a huge impact in the world. And I love any biographies about Jane Goodall. They're great to handsell to anyone who loves reading about animals since they get to meet someone just like them and can be inspired by how much she's accomplished.

Love love love this series of book. My daughter loves discovering a new person with each book, and as we read about Jane Goodall she listened entranced and kept asking if she was a “real person” and did she REALLY live with the chimpanzees?! This is a great series, and this book was very well done.
