Inside its pages is an in-depth look at how George Lucas expanded the saga with new environments such as Hoth and Cloud City, and new characters like Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, and Yoda. It also includes comments from the cast and crew involved in the making of the film, including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher.
See how scenes such as the Rebels battle against the AT-ATs were created and learn more about how Luke Skywalker’s battle against Darth Vader was filmed in a must-have item for every Star Wars fans collection!
A look back at the making of The Empire Strikes Back on its 40th anniversary, this is a beautiful offering for Star Wars fans. This hardcover collector's edition is packed with full color photos of both paintings and live action from every stage of production and plenty of behind the scenes looks. Chapters are broken down to hash out story arcs, characters, settings, and iconic scenes, including (characters) Yoda and Boba Fett, (settings) Hoth and Dagobah, and (scenes) "I Know" and "I Am Your Father." It's not just a retelling of what we saw in the final product, but also how it got there, with plenty of reveals about initial story points and lines of dialog that were ultimately completely changed to give us the fan favorite we know and love. I thoroughly enjoyed the behind-the-scenes details and stunning images of a movie I've treasured my whole life.
I enjoyed this one more than the A New Hope one. I do kinda wish it went a little more in depth about draft differences, but the Lando clone backstory was interesting. Was kind of taken aback that they included a photo of Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor but not the original even just for comparison, given this is the 40th anniversary issue.
A fun overview of perhaps the greatest of all Star Wars films, this one shows off known pictures and scenes with a smattering of different facts and back stories. A quick fun read, but probably best for the Star Wars fan only.
Other than a handful of new-to-me images, this wasn't much to this book. Perhaps reading it 2 years after the 40th anniversary jaded my reception of it.
