*I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review.*
I am in love with this series. The characters are amazing, the plot is thoughtful, the naming of the title in the way to have the first letter of the two words same is interesting.
I have enjoyed all the books in this series. I can't wait to read more.
This one wasn't for me. It was a mistake trying to read this as a standalone. I needed more backstory on all the supporting characters. I'll start at the beginning and try this one again.
I enjoyed the first three books in this series, and I was enjoying this book, but that changed dramatically around 60%. The surprise turn wasn’t that hard to see coming, but it was handled so poorly that I need to rage ramble about it.
I got to chapter 12 thinking things could turn around in a way that wouldn’t piss me off.
BUT...
The only reason I finished this was to see all the updates for everyone in the pack before moving onto Frannie’s story. The last two chapters weren’t bad, but I was in a sour mood thanks to Conner’s lack of consideration towards his mate’s feelings.
Shifter mpreg with strong but wounded protagonists
This fourth book in the Wolf's Mater series builds on the theme of "strong-but-wounded" protagonists found in some of the couplings in previous installments. In this installment, the characters have backgrounds that are a bit darker than those usually found in shifter mpreg romances.
Normally, I find shifter mpreg to be overly sweet stories that often race through key story developments to get to the sizzle. This author adds more exposition, providing the benefit of more thoughtful and fleshed out characters and relationship development, at the expense of occasionally feeling a bit like "trudging through" the reading. Of course, there are the requisite sizzling scenes which are are interspersed throughout the story, but they generally don't dominate and/or interrupt the story/action/relationship as much as the explicit heat often does in mpreg romances.
3.5 stars - rounded to four due to the bit more harsh, streetwise backgrounds than often found in shifter mpreg
After reading this book, my biggest question is: what about this group of people attracts all the crazies to it? Once again, we have a member of the pack threatened by someone who is certifiably insane (this time it's Pippen) who decides that it's his job to protect everyone else in the pack and so he tries to deal with Silas alone. I thought that it was great that Luke actually brings this trend up to everyone in the pack and tell them to stop it!
I'm also a little unclear, still, on why all of the packs in the US seem to have turned to drug running in the last decade. Haven't any of them figured out that it's self destructive? Do no shifter packs have skills that make money otherwise? At first I thought that maybe we just don't hear about those packs, but Silas was ranting on and on about how Luke & Felix's packs were doomed to fail for not being like everyone else...
I wish that we could have seen more of Pippen's change from believing that having support meant being week, to accepting Conner's assurances that there are many kinds of strength. Rather than getting to see that, it was more of Conner talking and Pippen not really getting it, until the end when he suddenly is 100% on board with Conner's POV. I think that it would have worked better for Pippen to have an a-ha moment before the end where it all came together in his head.
Having said that, I loved that Conner consistently showed Pippen that he is his highest priority. For all of Pippen's life, those who were supposed to be his biggest supporters, were the very people who only valued him for what they felt his use to them was. Conner showed Pippen that he himself had value by just being Pippen. Conner didn't want Pippen to change, to fit some ideal that Conner had for a mate, but that Pippen was already Conner's ideal mate.
I thought that Pippen was really strong, and really scared under it all. Connor was really good for him and helped him learn what real strength was. I think that Pipoen has a lovely heart.
I really enjoyed book 4... I liked Conner and Pippen...their story flowed better than the previous books IMO... I will not read book 5... Nothing to do with the author I really don't do MMF... If it was MMM I would be all over it...I will go to the 1st book in the spin-off series... I'm sure skipping book 5 I'm not going to miss anything important.....
I think out of all of the books in this series so far, this may possibly be my favorite. I just love little Pippen. We finally get to see into his life and why he is the way he is. I love that the author has given all these boys a difficult past to come out of.
Pippen, since he joining Luke's pack, has always been the quiet one. But he's very deadly. He's a young man who has practiced with knives and knows how to use them. What people haven't realized, though, is that even though he may be quiet and deadly, there are reasons behind it. He is so full of insecurities from his past. He thinks that every little thing makes him weak. So he is determined to be the strong silent one who will back anyone up. Then he met Conner. Who will do anything for Pippen, including tailing wherever he goes to keep him safe. And boy does that get comical. Pippen is sure he can take care of himself and has proven it over and over but sometimes accepting help shows your strength, it’s not a weakness. And this is a lesson Pippen has to learn.
I feel for Pippen in this book. I loved him in all the books but we finally get to see what makes him tick, and it can be heartbreaking. He grew up in a violent atmosphere that made him not trust people and to ensure he hurt someone before they could hurt him. I feel for him because of this. No one should have a life like he has had, even though it is sad to say in real life it happens. But I love what the author does with him. Even though he thinks himself weak at any little thing and is very insecure, he remains strong as well. He does everything he can to keep himself out of that past situation and move forward and that is what makes him so strong. When he meets Conner he doesn't feel worthy of someone even though he yearns for the man. Conner realizes that Pippen is his mate but he knows he is going to have to bulldoze through years of walls that Pippen has erected. And when the cracks start to show it is so worth it. We see a softer side to Pippen which I love. Because he finally gets to relax a little and just be. He can be wrapped in strong arms and feel safe whether he needs it or not. The softer side of Pippen is so beautiful it makes you cry. I love that Conner brings that out in Pippen. Now don't get me wrong. It's not always there. Pippen is a hardened young man and he and Conner butt heads a lot because Pippen has had to be so strong. But when you see it, it's worth the tears you shed.
The author has done a wonderful job of conveying each life in these stories beautifully. And this is another good book. You get wound into the stories and can't put it down. We have one more story in this series and I'm excited to say if you've been reading it is finally Frannie’s turn. I can't wait to see how this ends!
I fall more in love with this series and each of the pack members with every book that comes out. Kiki definitely has a way with words and putting those words together to create an amazing story.
Pippin has been the one that I have worried most about so far through this series because he is the loner of the group even though Conner has been by his side since they first met. When Pippen put himself in harms way to protect his best friend Sorell I knew gen that there was more to Oippen then meets the eye.
This book totally proves it. I no longer think he was Just lonely but I think he was also scared. He was a red of losing what means so much to him and that is love, safety and family. He feared it being taken away from him or worse yet messing up so badly that it would be unforgivable by those he holds closest to his heart.
That is where Conner comes in to play the most. Conner cannot picture his life without Pippen in it and he will fight the demons that Pippen faces in order to prove to Pippen that he deserves the happiness as much as the next person.
The only problem is both are hiding secrets and both have those secrets come to light in the form of their pasts walking back into their lives. If they let it, it will destroy them.
Can these two overcome what is coming for them or is Pippen destined to end up the loner wolf after all?
I just love this series so much. It is rating up there with my top favorites as far as shifter romances goes. I cannot wait to read what Kiki has up here sleave next.
Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review
Don't Deserve to be Loved Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2021 The Fourth book of the Wolf's Mate series was very enjoyable and also poignant. I thought Sorrell in Book 3 had a miserable life well, this book reveals just how terrible his childhood actually was. It's amazing that Sorrell and Pippen survived and were strong enough to leave their archaic former pack. But it wasn't with without a price.
Unlike the other series books this one featured two Wolf MCs. It was great for Connor to finally get his story told. Many secrets were revealed. The revelations didn't come easily. Some were buried so deep it was awful when they were finally yanked to the surface. Expect a lot of action, surprises, and violence. The HEA in this book was definitely hard fought for and deservedly earned.
I loved this book. Pippen was a huge asshole and Connor was absolutely perfect for him. I hate all of these exes coming back into town just to mess things up for this family. I loved how much growth Pippen got to go through in this book and loved every minute of it. Even when I was contemplating throwing the book at the wall because of stupid miscommunication issues. I can't want to read the next book!
I'm so glad we finally got to read Pippen's story, and what a story. Pippen, strong and dangerous, felt that he didn't belong. Conner knew from the moment he saw Pippen, that he was his. And he did everything possible to prove that to Pippen. I really enjoyed this book. They're my new favorite couple.
This is the story of how Connor and Pippen come together. I enjoyed the slow build of there relationship and not the insta love. Normally, I find shifter mpreg to be overly sweet but the characters in this series have backgrounds that are a bit darker than those usually found in shifter mpreg romances. Really good series each book keeps getting better.
Pippen was still trying to find his place in the pack. He knew he loved to cook, being self taught. Conner felt a connection to Pippen, but he couldn't understand the need to be around him all the time, he'd had a mate, in his old pack. Pippen's ex shows up to get him back, Conner's son and ex-mate also shows up. What a reunion.
All the dramas and the angst are too much for me to handle and to find out that Conner has a son with his ex wife, like added salt to the wound.
Conner thought that his ex wife was his mate but turned out he was wrong and Pippen is his true mate and even though his ex wife wasn't his mate but she still can bear a child. Ugh!

I love Connor and I was glad to finally get to know him better. I like Pippen but at times I wanted to shake him. He was very unfair to those that deeply care about him. Especially Connor. But hearing about his life gives you insight as to why that is. I loved that Luke finally stood up and said his piece to his pack. This story had a lot of little twists and turns and drama.
I loved this book, but then again I always enjoy this authors book from finding Finn to this one, each books contain new and older characters, Pippen is not your normal omega, but he has his own fears. He loves cooking, also has amazing skills with knives.
Another great story from the series. Loved Pip and Connor. All the characters from the previous books with a continuing over arc. Now to read Frannie’s story. I am so pleased that is MMF & not MFM as I am going through an MM book addiction.😜
I loved this book. The characters are so complicated and carrying so much baggage with them. This book has non-stop action complicated by so many packs and Alphas involved. Fun to read.
I wanted to like Pippin's story more than I did, but the writing style was still a bit clunky and the emotional depth just wasn't there. I still enjoyed the series overall, but am happy to be moving on to something else now (I know there's another book in it, but MMF just isn't for me.)
Well written story and well developed characters! Those are the most important attributes, to me, in a book! This has all the feels! Laughing, loving, hate, anger, danger, thrills, and kept me involved right to the end!
