My Sister's Boyfriend

Rate this book
EVERETT:

My sister’s boyfriend has a twin, and he has me seeing double.

When I show up to dinner with my sister, her boyfriend, and his twin brother Will, I find myself wanting what I can’t have. Will’s just as hot as he was back in high school, but we’re coworkers at a startup now—I have to keep it professional.

The problem? He’s only gotten better with age, and he’s giving me his undivided attention. He says he’s straight, but our straight siblings are playing matchmaker. Now Will and I are sharing a twin bed, and my crush is getting bigger.

My sister and I couldn’t be more different, but our boyfriends are identical.

WILL:

My brother and I might look alike, but Everett has no trouble telling us apart.

A lot has changed since high school, especially Everett. He’s not the nerdy guy I remember. He’s a skilled engineer I can’t help but admire, and now I’m the one with a crush. Our chemistry isn’t engineered, and when it boils over, it’s going to sizzle.

He’s the first man I’ve ever looked at this way, but that’s not stopping me. He thinks we’re worlds apart, but he forgets how determined a former linebacker can be. I’m taking a chance on Everett—he just needs to meet me halfway.

I guess you could say my twin and I have similar tastes.

Note to readers: This is an extra spicy standalone MM romance, heat level 10. Readers can expect several steamy scenes that will leave you gasping.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! IMO this book is the best or if not that rates with the very best stuff that the author has written, and over the last few years I have read quite a bit of his work! What can I say... this book sucked my in from the very first chapter and never let me go till the last page. Everett and Will are so very well developed with such detail that they feel totally real to me, like I could meet them at a coffee shop or somewhere. Everett is my favorite, though only by a hair, because he was so perfect in his imperfections. What can I say about Will except his patience, loyalty and always being there for Everett, yet giving him space when Everett needed that brought me to tears a few times. The pacing of this story while fast, nonetheless was perfection. The second couple of the Awesome Four (Becky & Gage) were perfectly placed... just enough for what was needed, yet not overshadowing the MCs in the slightest. This book was sexy has heck, beautifully written, warm and cuddly as a puppy! Such feel good, unadulterated fun and heat it I am sure I will be reading it again soon!
I received a free ARC copy of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it.

DNF.

So many issues with this book:

The sex was not super-spicy but trite and limiting. The “straight” guy only tops and receives oral sex. C’mon.....

The gay guy is also the insecure one while the “straight” guy is super confident. I felt like I was reading a pulp from back in the 60s with the retro couple dynamics.

Cute. NO Angst. M/M adorable romance. TOO cute, actually. Don't let the Title fool you - this is not about some dude taking his sisters boyfriend (make sure to read the blurb)
I am in need of something a bit more gritty after this, my teeth hurt this was so CUTE.
Ok, enough cute.
More like a novella than a novel, I liked not having to reach for the tissues.

‘Love. There it was. I wasn’t sure when it had slipped in, but it was like a melody…’

New York author Jason Collins has thirty-four successful novels to his credit so far, covering all aspects of gay relationships. His most recent series dealt with the darker side of romance, so this new MY SISTER’S BOYFRIEND is a return to the lighter side of love, and a peek into the at times confusing perception of differences between identical twins. It makes a fine little romance.

When Jason elects to infuse his popular MM romances with a dash or two of humor, the result is a story that is not only satisfying to read but also one provides welcome chuckles. Witness the opening – ‘This had to be the wrong place, right? I was sitting in the parking lot of a restaurant called Clint’s. Now, I had nothing against the name Clint. There were plenty of fine, respectable Clint’s in the world. It had a kind of working man’s ring to it. So when my sister invited me out for “a bite at Clint’s” with her boyfriend and his twin brother, I’d pictured a homey venue – maybe a diner or at most a low-key bistro, the kind of place we might take Mom and Dad. But no, the place my GPS had brought me to had pristine windows through which I could see white tablecloths. My car was brand-new, and yet I’d still felt vastly outclassed as I turned into a sea of BMWs and Mercedes on all sides. Then I noticed the valet. This didn’t help with the whole sister’s boyfriend’s twin situation…’ So we meet Everett and the novel opens.

On that little curtain raiser, Jason successfully sets the stage for his very fun new novel, the plot being as follows: ‘Everett - My sister’s boyfriend has a twin, and he has me seeing double. Will - My brother and I might look alike, but Everett has no trouble telling us apart. I guess you could say my twin and I have similar tastes.’

Perfect writing for a late summer evening’s satisfying entertainment. Another fine success for Jason.

Ok. I’ve read a few of this authors books, so I knew what I was getting into. The writing is great, and I see so much potential in this author which is why I keep coming back. That being said the dialog, and response to situations can be a tad juvenile even though the characters are suppose to be older. I don’t think that’s the intention of the author but it does show his naiveté to the world.

Once you get passed that the stories are really good, and I always fall in love with the MC’s.

This gets a 3.5 from me. I’ll keep coming back, and one day you’ll find the groove

Definitely more than three stars, but not four stars. It was somewhere in between. I loved Will but wasn’t thrilled with Everett. This was the first book I’ve read by Jason Collins. I found several parts to be very awkward to read.

For me the timing and way they came together was wholly off. I could’ve gone with more build up. Also, when Will came to Everrett’s house the first time, it was sweet but not very believable they did first tv and then sex. It turned me off, rather than feel special. So I stopped reading after that.

This is one of the few times I can see why a m/m novel reads like a m/f book with a gender swap. Everett is the helpless clumsy hero(ine) who just can't believe (s)he's beautiful and that the hot man could ever be interested. See this quote, which is repeated constantly in slightly different words:

"If it were anyone else, maybe I’d believe it, but the idea that a demi-god former football player turned engineer Will would look at the computer guy with interest was laughable."

The majority of Everett's POV is internal monologuing about his insecurities like this. He doesn't have a personality outside of being awkward and blushing constantly.

Will, our straight confident hot man, has absolutely no issues with suddenly being attracted to Everett, having never even noticed men before. I've read plenty of GFY books, but this one was egregiously bad. I think it was the lack of issues Will had with his sudden attraction to a man, and that he had perfect confidence immediately. Having that compared to Everett's patheticness was jarring.

The one sex scene I did read was incredibly awkward. Everett's thought process - "I need to give him (Will) the gay sex experience so....I will blow him". Boy, receiving a blowjob is not something that makes you think "I'm having sex with man". Frott or something actually not possible with a woman. Will doesn't even try to reciprocate with head, just goes for the uninspired handjob, so...not off to an auspicious start.

ALSO, this had nothing to do with Everett's sister's boyfriend. It's his sisters boyfriends twin. What a letdown.

I don't honestly know what there could be for a plot, having read this far.

I love this book. I could not set it down. There are so many things to love, twins, high school reunion, high school crush, and high school bullied kid growing up successful where bully not so much. The main characters of this story fit so well. Everett lacked self confidence so bad it hurt just to read about him. Will was used to being popular and successful yet he had the personality that attracts people to him. Their journey to a relationship is heartwarming. It’s funny to read about grown up guys going through almost a high school crush on each other.
Then on the other hand is Becky and Gage. They appear to fit together like two halves of the same coin. The connection between Becky and Everett and between the twins, Gage and Will are entertaining. It is almost like having two sets of twins with the connection. Putting them together makes for a touching story. I think this is one of the best books this author has written. It just hooked me from the beginning.

There was just something really off-putting about this book. I didn't care for Everette, who seemed like a gay cliche and not in a good way. The romance with Will was forced and came across as a half-baked fantasy. When I realized that I only thing that I was trying to figure out about the story is why it wasn't working for me, I realized it was time to quit. I could have forced by way through, but why bother?

Sentences like this one didn't help matters. Will thinks this about Everette :

"He looked even cuter when he was excited. His eyes were so bright he'd be wagging his tail if had one...and it was making my heart race." (Note that the ellipse is actually in the sentence.)

I'm not getting how thinking someone reminds you of a dog incites lust and quite frankly would prefer not to get it.

Also what was with the title? Was "My Sister's Boyfriend's Twin" already taken?

This was a fun read. I would have liked to know a bit more about the characters' pasts, maybe in flashbacks from high school/college. The twin switch thing is mentioned a few times so I kept expecting it to come up in the story, and then it didn't... And Will seemed to accept that he's into (a) guy(s) really easily, too easily. I'm not saying I want angst or anything, but this is a nearly 30 year old dude who has always considered himself to be straight, now he's falling for Everett, and he just shrugs it off like "huh, I guess I'm bi now." Really? I mean... Ok. But that's pushing the story further into fantasy territory than I usually enjoy. I'm not wishing any of the horrors of self-hate and confusion and experiences with bigotry or anything like that on the guy. It's just a lot to simply... accept, no questions asked.

The title is misleading, it’s not about the sister’s boyfriend but about his twin.
Unfortunately I didn’t like the writing style.

2.5 on this one. Not a bad story and the characters seemed nice, but not a lot happens to move the story along. I don't mind the GFY or whatever trope, but it's just weird and unrealistic for a formerly straight man to just accept his newfound attraction to men with so little self-examination. Yes, Will's mom seemed to know all along that he was gay, but Will not having an inkling is ludicrous, because of how the penis works.

I also don't think Collins is that polished of an author, as several times I had to re-read a sentence of paragraph to make it make sense. His wording can be awkward and obtuse at times.

Still, I'll give another of his books a go. Easy enough to read, just not a lot of "there" there.

30% DNF. Just wasn't pulling me in. The flow of sentences also seemed choppy here and there and I dunno just felt the "Straight" Guy was a little too confident and impersonal at times almost forced. Wasn't really feeling the hotness factor that was promised either. Says 10 for heat level but I give it half of that...

A great read

A fun loving story from start to finish.
What would you do if your high school crush was back in town and started flirting with you? To top things off, him being gay was never on your radar. What would you do if you had your very first crush on a guy? Go big or go home!
This book had me giggling and cheering these two on. Beautiful book.

So, the title makes it sound more salacious than it is, which is why I depend on blurbs more than titles. So, it's actually my sister's boyfriend's twin brother. This is really not the greatest bi-awakening, gay-for-you plot, and the character development was lacking. But I enjoyed it for what it was, a piece of unrealistic fluff.

Good story

First thing, title is misleading. I was hoping for more background on Will's sexual revelation. There wasn't a confusing moment of mistaking the twins. I truly enjoyed the ending.

Steamy and cute

Loved the romance and brother/sister dynamic in this book. I loved the quick decision making when it came to discovering that Will liked men. He went with it and came out on top! Literally?

It was a good book and I liked their story. Everett was so cute, he tried so hard to be worthy of Will when he didn't have to. And Will, always patient and never giving up. That's why they deserved each other

It was ok

It was a little messy. Like that there was actions happening that we weren't being told. How does a guy who was straight all the sudden is ok with being gay and knowing all the stuff. It was a little to sudden and to much self doubt.
