Davarian Heroes #1

Traded To The Alien Regent

Rate this book

Grace...

Grace became a fighter pilot after the loss of both her parents on a deep space voyage forced her into stepping up, becoming both mother and father to her younger sisters. It was dangerous work, with constant attacks and long stretches between planets while the command crew searched for a suitable new home. Something similar to Earth they could settle on and create a better society. Maybe then Grace would have time to think about something more than surviving...

Grace is ready to sacrifice herself in a losing battle with alien pirates but the Davarians, green-skinned warriors with elven features and sharp fangs, intervene just in time. They only ask for one thing in return. Trade rights for willing females to aid their failing bloodlines.

Their regent takes a liking to Grace but he's abrasive, annoying, demanding, and a total pain. Can she find common ground with the five thousand year old ruler or will their falling out cost her crew the only safe haven they've found?

Bradon...

Once regents were plentiful among his people but now only three remain. Bradon took his turn ruling for twenty years then slept through the reign of the other two. Prolonged use of his people's hibernation units has caused physical changes to his body...

Awakening to find humans taking refuge among his people was shock enough! But nothing compared to the long dormant feelings of love and lust one feisty female fighter pilot inspires in him...

The more she argues and defies him the more he wants her for his own. Yet he can't stop being a beast to her, everything about her provokes his ire. Except when it doesn't. How does he get a beautiful young human to fall in love with him when his body has become monstrous and she does nothing but enrage him?

The first third of the book was great.
It was perfectly balanced, the world building, the characters, the plot and love interest. As well as the dialogues furthering banter and seriousness, in equal measure.
But suddenly it all crashed down and all other parts were placed in the background. The book only focused on the love interaction between the two main characters, and the banter overtook the whole book.

The writing was bad. The author's randomised switch of tenses, was giving me whiplash, even in one sentence. The grammatical errors and misspelled words reduced the joy and reading experience for me.
Furthered by switching at times from a third person narrator to a single persons point of view.

And to be honest, the female character was just too much and over the top.
I think I can’t remember one serious sentence from her after arriving on the alien planet. It was exhausting to read. She just didn’t have an off switch.
I like banter, and this one was really good. But it was too much. There was no balance.
Imagine someone would talk like that to you every single time, it would drive me nuts. And who would know what they mean seriously or sarcastic or just simply in teasing manner.
The author didn’t differentiate between sarcasm, banter, disrespect and equality. It was all meshed up in one.

The world building was great until they arrived at the alien planet. After about 35% it was almost non existent.

Reading the synopsis I was a little worried this would be another Mars needs Women trope considering it said "They only ask for one thing in return. Trade rights for willing females to aid their failing bloodlines.
Well that wasn't the case at all.

They only mentioned 'breeding rights' once at the start of the book, and it wasn't mentioned again. Also, it didn't seem like the bloodlines were failing at all considering there were a lot of males and females- enough that they had thousands of Davarian's lining up to find their mates at the end of the book. So I don't know why that was even mentioned.

description

Also, while I liked the premise of the book, there were some times I was confused about where the main characters were at any given time, some story choices (like the Emma side plot- why was she at that trading post alone in the first place? did she take a side shuttle alone?) and questions about why the characters were acting the way they were- mostly the lead h- Grace.
At times it just seemed like she was unnecessary brash.

"Everyone who's had a sexy thought about an ancient today, raise your hand."

I mean too much girl, too much. He's suspended naked, your kind of being a perv, and he's like a prince in this world. Kind of inappropriate.

Also, I get that she's a no nonsense fighter pilot, and that verbal sparring is normal on Davarian (?) but if you knew you had 2,000 people back on your space ship desperately looking for alliances and trading partners- why would you think its a good idea to be so verbally hostile to their leader?

"Do you know he can exile your entire crew from this world? Is that what you want? Stop antagonizing him!"

They play it off like her rudeness is cute, and I'd get it if it was just her having to watch her own back and not wanting to deal with Bradon being a jerk, but seriously- you're on another aliens home world, and your being pretty reckless with the insults.

description
And I don't even want to get started on the questionable consent part, the fact that she's calling him 'the one'...after one day, the mate story line at the end, the juvenile reason for their break up, or the part where she says she doesn't want kids but he just assumes she's lying just because she's young and that of course she wants to be a mother like she doesn't know what she's saying.

description
---All I can say is that there were a few things dropped here and there that made me worried she was magically pregnant even though he said he can't have kids. I'm not a fan of when books establish that theres no possibility of kids then..Surprise your pregnant! So whew on that.

All in all, its on Kindle Unlimited for free atm- so if your not as picky of a reader as I am and you enjoy a quick fun/ steamy sci-fi alien romance read then I say go for it! I had fun reading, but just got bogged down at all of my questions.

Good book with more romance and development than your average Kindle Unlimited alien romance novel. Plus there was no fated mates. The two characters were attracted to each other at first but also argued quite a lot. I really liked their relationship, it felt very realistic. Although the title of the book and the cover are both rather deceiving. She was never, at any time, Traded, and he was never described as looking like that roughneck you see on the cover. He’s fit and well muscles, but also slightly elven. That cover guy is soooo not what I’d call “elven” or someone you’d expect to be called Brandon The Wise. LOL

I stopped at 38%. Supposedly she’s from upper class and smart, but as my note says ......[her stupid comments and behavior] makes me dislike her so. This isn’t a strong-willed woman speaking her mind but someone low-class who was never taught any manners. Guess I’m alone based on ratings. Oh well.

I rarely leave reviews, but this book really sucked, so I decided to leave a warning for other readers. The only reason it's not a one star is because I actually did finish the book. The grammar and I am usually one of those people who can overlook typos and grammar errors without issues, but not this time. I sometimes had to re-read sentences and whole paragraphs to figure out what the author meant. And the plot line was weird and disjointed. You read the book, follow a story and wham! a different angle makes you go "wtf just happened??"

And one more pet peeve - Earthling. For the the love of the English language, why can't we just stick with the conventional Terrans? Why do the authors feel the need to reinvent the wheel?

cute

A 5000-year-old alien regent meets a smart-mouth fighter pilot. These have a romance built on verbal debates and sarcasm, after snarky arguments with one another and their relationship tested by the old traditions. This love story was a very interesting take on the soulmate trope! I’m excited to see what the other books are going to be like.

Interesting way to find a mate! Lots of fun at the very least. Happily ever afters all around. Their form of governing was quite interesting as well. On to the next!

This was a sweet feel good story. Just the right length, it wasn't abrupt and didn't drag. This story wasn't really like the blurb past the first chapter. Nobody was forced or bullied. In the book there are 3 regents. They each rule for 20 years then go into a hibernation chamber while each of the other 2 have their turn. The humans are attacked and saved by the aliens. The aliens request women but after discussion decide to help the humans without the trade. Because Grace was in the middle of giving her life to save the human ship right before the aliens ported her out seconds before her ship exploded she was considered a hero and was one of the first to be allowed on the alien planet. She and her sisters were being given an exclusive tour when she met the current regent who was a queen. After talking the queen decided she liked Grace and joined the tour giving an exclusive perspective on their world and culture. During the tour they went into the most important building on the planet. It was a museum, exhibition hall of the culture, rooms devoted to each of the regents and what they stood for but mostly because it held the hibernation chambers of the regents that were on display giving the public the ability to see and pray over the sleeping regents. It happened that that was the day the next regent was to be awakened to take his turn to rule. He would be given a certain time to catch up to speed and then the queen would go into hibernation. During the tour Grace was actually able to see him and to learn about Braden the Wise. She found herself strongly attracted to him thinking him the most handsome man she had ever seen. Later at the awakening day celebration she was introduced to him. Now the aliens liked verbal sparring and one upmanship. But during her conversation with Braden he was a real jerk. So Grace proceeded to drink while Braden realized that he actually liked her and was attracted to her. They had conversation while she was drunk where she was a little too honest with him about how attractive he was but it again ended with bickering. Well it was tradition of awakening day that the newly awakened regent would take a willing companion and traditionally they would have some form of sex. Braden decided he wanted Grace and had someone ask her if she would put her name in. Grace treated it as a joke thinking it was a one in thousands chance of having her name drawn. What she didn't realize was the names weren't drawn but were actually chosen by Braden. Braden chose her. Shocked to the core she knew she had to go through with it. Thus began their relationship. Grace was all in but Braden felt he wasn't able to have a relationship because of his role as leader and for other reasons. The story begins a give and take as they work their way through to a HEA. The story was good, you could feel their emotions and couldn't help rooting for them. There was plenty of passion but not overwhelmingly so. Good Book, I definitely recommend it.

Awakened by klaxons and emergency lights indicated they were under attack, Grace jumped out of bed, pulling on her flight suit, and headed for the hangar on the run. Her sisters, Mia and Dakota, were right behind her. When their parents were killed, Grace stepped up to protect the 2,000 humans on their ship. Dakota said it looked like the Traj were attacking. The Traj didn’t usually attack well-armed vessels, but maybe they were getting desperate.

Grace gasped when she saw the size of the enemy ship on the screen. Captain Drake was hailing it, trying to avoid battle with messages of peace. Another slightly smaller ship was coming in from the opposite direction – an ally or reinforcements for the enemy? In preparation, Commander West hit a button and revealed their 48 plasma cannon ports open and a huge weapon under the dome appeared. All ships stopped moving and their ship, the Eden Twelve, moved away. But the other two followed and Grace got into her fighter. They tried to outrun the enemy, but were fired on and their injectors damaged.

The fighter pilots launched and went after the smaller vessel as their ship prepared to defend against the larger one. The fighters incapacitated the smaller vessel and then went after the larger one, but it was better shielded. So she converted her fighter into a huge bomb, prepared to give her life to save her sisters on Eden Twelve. The Captain and Commander agreed that her way was the only way left to them and they pulled back all the other fighters.

The closer Grace got to the enemy ship’s weak spot, the stronger she felt some kind of power vibrating on her skin. The next thing she knew, Grace was on the bridge of a Davarian ship looking at a bunch of aliens who had just intervened to rescue them. One of them with pointed ears, dark green skin, and long black hair smiled and stared at her. Bradon, their regent, is drawn to Grace but he's abrasive, annoying, demanding, and a total pain as she gets to know him better. He finds that she is just as independent and stubborn as he is, infuriating actually. But she awakens other feelings in him as well. Can he find a way to make the young human fall in love with him?

This was an action-packed, enjoyable story that was fun to read. Bradon and Grace were wonderful together, each strong and dominant and bringing out the worst (and best) in each other. The Davarians want the alliance the humans have been looking for. And they want willing females to restore their bloodlines. Can this be the start of something positive for everyone?

Loved this alien romance about Grace and Bradon. Grace is a pilot on a spaceship of humans who are searching for a new home to colonize. As they're traveling their spaceship gets attacked by the Traj which Grace is deployed during the battle. Grace is looking for weakness in their ships during their battle. Meanwhile Captain Drake sends a welcome message and a distress call which Lod of Davaria answers. Grace decides to do a Kamakazi to save her people but at the last minute she's beamed on Lod's ship. They are invited to Davaria where Grace and her sisters get a tour where the last three regents sleep during their cycle. She attracted to Bradon the Wise who be awaken and the she meets the current reigning regent the Warrior Queen Belanna who invites them to the Great Awaking Day party. When she finally meets Bradon she not impressed but as a lark she allows her name in the pool for being a companion on the Awaking Night. When Bradon chooses her she's taken by the priests and prepped to finalize the Awakening Night. Does Grace who is still attracted to Bradon fulfill the duty? This was a very enjoyable and romantic story which I can see more written about the courtships of the human people and the Davaria plus there's a open question of what happen to Emma who they couldn't find. I volunteer to read and review this ARC via Booksprout.

This was an amazing book and I didn’t want to put it down until I finished it but work got in the way. Grace and her sisters Dakota and Mia had left earth with there parents to find a new place to call home as well many others and in there travels Grace has had to fight as a pilot with others to keep everyone safe. Captain Drake and his second commander Nicholas are trying to find away to stop the threat from an alien race called Traj because they only want the human females on board to sell or mate with and neither of those options are going to happen. A Davarian spacecraft comes to there rescue and are taken to there home. Queen Belanna is at the end of her 20 years reign and will soon go into hibernation for 40 years and then Bradon the wise will be awaken to start his 20 years upon his awakening he finds the most annoying and most beautiful human female he has ever seem before him and when they meet the chemistry is off the charts because Grace has already seen him naked and likes what she saw and wishes for more time with him alone. How can they work out there differences when Brandon must rule and having a mate is not in his future, but can Grace change his mind and have him forever. Read this great book to find out what happens next.

The Alien Regent (Bradon) has no idea what one human can bring in to his life...

There are times when you are absolutely amazed how much life, and sparkle, one person brings in to your life... such is the case with Grace when she comes into Bradon's life willing to say anything and everything on her mind, and challenging him to consider things he had once thought impossible, as well as things he never dared allow himself.

I LOVED Grace's spunk and attitude. She was spicy and saucy in all the right ways. The Universe that was created here was interesting, with a lot of openings/places left for other stories should the author choose to revisit the Universe and expand it with more stories -- FYI, I hope she does! Grace has two sisters in need of true love, and Bradon has two friends who are in love, yet, currently, separated by dedication and responsibility to their people.

This done in one quick read was an absolute page-turner! I started it when I arrived at the gate for my three-hour flight and finished it as the plane was touching down... perfect in every sense.

The Davarian world and culture was interesting and probably what I enjoyed most about this book

I enjoyed this book. The Davarian world and culture was interesting and probably what I enjoyed most about this book. Bradon was sweet and innocent and learned a lot from Grace. The romance between Grace and Bradon was well written, however Grace accepted Bradon fairly quickly and the way he had to work, but I guess that is normal for these types of books. It was a fast moving book and had a bit of everything. There was probably a bit too much sex for me but it was fascinating reading about Bradon’s sexual experiences and what was expected/not expected in his role. He really needed his other half. I liked the ending and was it wrapped up well. Hopefully Grace’s sisters will also get books and I also wouldn’t mind seeing something with Lord Lod, maybe with one of the sisters. Not a fan of the cover art, too much beard for me, which is weird as don’t remember Bradon having a beard…

Grace and her sisters are in deep space when they encounter the Davarians.
Fighter Pilot Grace and her sisters are in deep space on the deep-space exploration vessel Eden Twelve from Earth when it is attacked by a Traj vessel. Grace heads to the flight deck and she and her fellow pilots head out to defend the ship. They are not making much impact on the other ship when Grace decides to do something desperate. She tells the others to get clear and put her ship on autopilot and aims it at the Traj ship. Next thing she knows she is on the bridge of another ship and this one is Davarian. The Eden Twelve has been towed to their orbital space platform and Grace and her sister are being shown around Davaria Prime by a guide. During the tour she sees the stasis unit containing Bradon the Wise who is due to be awakened during the festivities currently underway and is surprised at the handsome man laying in the tube of gel stark naked.

Grace the Regent's future Queen!
by sewsummore

Brandon the Wise" was Regent and Priest of the Davarian homeworld, he ruled his people in conjunction with two other Regents. When he was awakened from stasis at the end of the previous Regent's rule, he discovered that the humans were visiting his planet and when he meets the human pilot named Grace. He was surprised by her attitude and candor, all his reigns he had been revered and worshipped by his people and he found her attitude a pleasant change from his adoring people. Though they argued a lot it was obvious that they had a deeper connection. I enjoy reading this book and loved Grace's quick comebacks and determined "no hold barred" attitude. While Brandon could be "stuck up" at times he was deeply attracted to her at the same time determined to fulfill his role as Regent to his people that left little time for personal attachments. How these two lovers achieve a lifelong commitment to each other made compelling and enjoyable reading.

Grace, a coalition fighter from earth. Is almost like a role reversal when it comes to being intimate. She fights the good fight and has sisters working with her on the fleet. While being honored by the Regal family, she is chosen to be the one for the awakening ceremony. There is action and the race against another alien life force who also discovers humans are of course the ultimate compatible species to breed. With her sisters missing with part of the crew, Grace makes choices to be with the Regal, Brandon. He seems to be changing once he is awaken and attracted to Grace. There is a HEA, no cliffhanger I can see as Grace is the off and aggressive potential mate? But the Regal Brandon doesn’t...you gotta read to understand his purpose.

Traded to the Alien Regent by Juno Wells is a wonderful alien fairy tale. In this book, Grace a fighter pilot from an Earth spaceship traveling the universe to find a new planet to settle on arrives on an alien planet named Davaria on the cycles of days when their next ruling Regent Bradon the Wise is awakened from his forty year slumber. Grace immediately becomes smitten with the Regent Bradon the Wise and his teasing ways when they meet. He in turn can not get enough of Grace’s unique personality. This is a wonderfully sweet and spicy love story of one alien Regent who finds his perfect match in a mouthy human fighter pilot. This story is such a fun entertaining read that I finished it without a break. If you like reading about hot alien men who appreciate straight forward forceful human women you will love this book! Traded to the Alien Regent is sizzling hot and sweet romance.

I like Grace. She is very opinionated, and not afraid to say what is on her mind. I like that , it is a true pleasure to have someone like that around. They say what they mean. A lot of times in our society it is frowned upon to say just what you mean.
Bradon has a hard time imagining a life time with Grace. He does not thing that he will be able to give all she wants or desires. In all truth she just wants a life time with him. A good story. It has excitement and danger too. It's like Cinderella the thrill of finding just the right one to wear the Glass Slipper. Sends goosebumps up and down my arms. Grace her sisters and over 2 thousand souls were on a ship in space to start a colony on a new planet but they have been attacked a couple of times already she had lost her parents in one of those attacks but Grace is a pilot she gets into her fighter prepared to take off and determined to win this one too. Things are looking bad so Grace reversed the polarity of the fighter which made it into a bomb it’s a Kamikaze situation and she is willing to die to save the others she has no choice but the next thing she knew was that Grace was standing on board of an alien ship staring at the aliens. Wow what a fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
It was a great book!
This was a little like "The Beauty and The Beast" story.
Grace was just trying to make a better life for her and her siblings.
Since their parents death, Grace has become the mother and father to her younger sisters.
During a battle with pirates, Grace is saved by Brandon.
Will she look beyond his appearance and his rudeness ?
Time will only tell !
The characters + storytelling were very captivating
It has all the ingredients that you need for an awesome book!
I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I enjoyed reading this book & look forward to future books from this author.

I’d be happy to read it if these areas are corrected, but it badly needs an editor. The book constantly and randomly switches both tenses (present tense pops up sporadicly in a book written in past tense) and POV (1st to 2nd and back again when most of the book was in 3rd) in the middle of sentences, like it was written in first person POV and then was swapped to 3rd later on but not properly edited out. It has an interesting premise but I got too frustrated with the tense changes and couldn’t get past the first few chapters.

It’s my hope this gets fixed so I could see how the story plays out but as is, I couldn’t finish it.

A fascinating story, very romantic and passionate. Grace is everything I love in my book heroines. She is fearless, beautiful, sexy, and smart witted. Snark has never been so much fun as when applied to the arrogant and annoying Davarian regent Bradon. It is insta-attraction on both sides but for Bradon it can never be more than temporary. Hah! As if fate will allow any obstacles to stop true love! I really enjoyed reading this book and maybe a sequel? There were some very interesting sub characters like Grace's sisters who seem to warrant their own stories.

This was a very interesting and entertaining read. I was a little confused by the title of the book as I read this book I didn't get any indication that Grace was traded or unwilling person in any case scenario. If any thing she pursued him with such determination. I would've like to see the same enthusiasm with the regent. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. Nice read...

I have to admit that the beginning of this book seemed to move slow. I knew that Ms. Wells was just trying to "build a new world" and as such had to get a lot of information out. Because of this, I did find myself able to lay my Kindle aside for a little while. Once Grace and Bradon finally met, it was an entirely different thing...I couldn't stop reading. I hope there are future visits to this world.
