Another Five Days

Rate this book
In the long awaited follow up to the best selling, Five Days, Another Five Days tells the story of war hero, Al Sokratis, who begins his day by being asked to be the Best Man at his grandson's wedding, only to end it in the afterlife after he is hit and killed by a texting driver while pulling a stranger from a burning vehicle. Because of the heroic way he died as well as the way he lived his life, Al is rewarded by being given the opportunity to re-live any five days of his life. They can be days he enjoyed and wants to experience all over again, days in which he had regrets and wants to make amends, or days in which he tries to help others and change the course of history.

Another Five Days takes us on a tour of Woodstock, Vietnam, the NASA Space Program, and the 1986 World Series, introducing us to heroes and almost heroes, people whose lives might have turned out vastly differently were it not for the blink of an eye. Above all else, it is a love story as Al desperately tries to find a way to reunite with his departed wife.

Another Five Days by Matt Micros is a wonderful, feel good book!

The premise itself is amazing, let alone when you get into the meat of the writing. Matt Micros has crafted a beautiful, heart-warming story about a man who gets to redo five days of his life because of his extraordinary altruism.

Al Sokratis is the kind of guy we want to see in the world: he does amazing things for people. He goes off to war to help protect his buddy, he helps his son with his finances when the goings get tough, and he becomes Mayor to try to better the city for everyone. When he goes to help a man who was in a tragic accident and is killed, he is given a chance to redo five days of his life. To no one's surprise, he continues to try to help people and is rewarded greatly.

This book literally brought tears to my eyes. At the end (that sweet ending, my goodness) I couldn't help but feel so warm and fuzzy and let a few tears fall from my eyes. It's such a feel good and lovely story in such a rough time full of negativity that I can't help but scream about this book on the top of all the hills. I will be so disappointed if this book doesn't find an audience. It's a magical little book that I will be recommending for years to come. To top it off, this book is easy to read, fast paced and a short story so you can binge it in no time.

If you like fiction, want something that will make the world seem better, or you are seeking a short story, grab this book! Matt Micros is an amazing story teller!

Five out of five stars.

This was the first and only book I have ever read by Matt Micros. Although it was written as a sequel to his former book Five Days, I believe that it can be treated as a stand alone book. I had never read his prior book and had no trouble enjoying this one. The concept for both books was similar but the characters were unique to each book. It was a character driven book and I enjoyed reading it a lot.

Al Sokratis, a father, widower, grandfather, respected member of his community and war veteran hero, was a creature of habit. Upon waking, his routine was pretty much the same every day. One autumn day it began a little differently. His grandson appeared at his home early in the morning. Al and his wife, now departed, raised him after his father was placed in jail and his mother had died. Al and his grandson were very close but this early morning visit was unexpected. His grandson had come to Al's home to ask his grandfather to be his best man at his wedding. There was no one on earth that his grandson wanted to be his best man more than his grandfather. Of course Al was honored and accepted the role. After his grandson left, Al proceeded to get on with the rest of his day. On his way to get his coffee and newspaper, Al spotted an accident he could not ignore. A car was on fire and someone was trapped in the car. Heroically, Al saved the person from the burning car only to be hit by a texting driver and died. Since Al led a very commendable life and always tried to help others while he was alive and because of the heroic way he died, Al was given the opportunity to relive any five days of his life. They could be any days he wanted but once he chose them he could not change his mind. The days Al chose paid testimony to the type of man he was and still was.

I enjoyed reading Another Five Days by Matt Micros and would recommend this book to anyone that wants to believe that there are good people, people who put others first and want to do good. It was a book about love, family, choosing, friendship, finding good in others and it will transport you back to events in the 1970's and 1980's.

I received a digital copy of Another Five Days by Matt Micros from Micropulous Press through a goodreads give away. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

After reading the authors first novela, "Five Days", I was intrigued to read his latest addition, "Another Five Days" wondering if it could live up to the expectation of the first one. It most certainly did not disappoint. Another Five Days transports you back to significant moments in history, and I found myself reminiscing of those exact times in my own life, where I was, who I was with, and often caught myself smiling as I read through each day. A quick, easy, feel good read, the author brings you along journey while also forcing you to question what moments in your own life would you want to re-live, what would you do,if anything, differently, and serves as a gentle reminder that in real life, we don't get the opportunity to re-live any 5 days so make the most of the ones you have. 5 stars all around.

Really good short book with lots of detail and emotion. Love the idea of the 5 days in this book. I now want to read the first book in this series.

I’m becoming a big fan of this author. Shorter, easy reading character driven stories that always have a message. I loved the original Five Days which told the story of a high school teacher who drowned while saving the life of a little boy and was rewarded by being given the opportunity to re-live any five days from his life. The days he chooses end up being days from history than many of us of a certain age would remember. The US Hockey team’s win over Russia. 9/11. The 1986 World Series. I really enjoyed how the character viewed his second chance and what he decided to do with it.

In Another Five Days, we follow a different character—this time a grizzled war veteran—but the premise remains the same. The days are also days from history that you would know. Woodstock. Vietnam. The Challenger space shuttle. Without giving too much away, I’ll just say the character in this book lived a very interesting life that touched on each of these days. I’m not quite old enough to remember some of the events, but that made it more enjoyable for me. Almost like a fictional run through history. The character is terrific. The writing actually very strong for an unknown author. I can’t say enough about this book. It’s funny, smart, nostalgic, romantic. Something for everyone. I don’t say this lightly, but this book is a must read. I loved it and plan to read the rest of his books. I read the original Five Days on a recommendation from a friend who had won it on a Giveaway. And they were spot on. Every now and then a book and author will surprise you. This is that book. And this is the author. Another Five Days is better than the original and I loved that one. Do yourself a favor and give this one a read. It will be two hours well spent.

Thank you to the author and the publisher for a signed copy of this book!

Even though this was a standalone, I figured I had to read Five Days before I read this. I read it in a day. It was cute.

It was the same story with this one. I read it over the course of two evenings. It was a feel-good story. Though I was slightly confused why he didn't save the one person who probably all readers would assume he would. But I guess that all worked out in the end. This very quick read had me smiling a lot and marveling at the cleverness of some of the passages. It's cute. Read it.

*I won this copy in a Goodreads Giveaway.

A few pages in, I was worried this was just going to be a corny read and while it was on a basic level, I loved the premise of the story and there were enough moments that had me either chuckling or tearing up that I ended up really enjoying it. A nice, feel-good read in a time that is just a bit crazy.

I won this book as a giveaway. The plot attract me as I often have the conversation with my mom: she would like to be able to go back in time to live a day with the family when we were kids.
I admit I was afraid the book would be too corny for me to like. In the end I liked it, it’s heart warming and easy the read. I recommend it as a feel good book that you would read just like you would watch a cheesy Christmas movie to feel good.

Sweet

This was a sweet, quick read. Not a lot of substance, a little predictable but too nice for me to be too critical. If you like Hallmark movies, or Touched by an Angel type stories then this is for you.

I was intrigued by the concept of this book and the story was good, if a little preachy in parts, but overall a good, solid read. Kind of reminded me of a cross between Highway to Heaven and Touched by an Angel with its feel-good vibes. It was a quick, pleasant, heart-warming read.

I received this book as a giveaway. I had not read the previous book “Five Days”, bit this book can be read as a stand alone. This book is about Al and how he is offered to relive 5 days of his life. It’s very interesting how he chooses which 5 days to reLive and how they affect the outcome of his life. I’d recommend this book to everyone. Good characters, very relatable.

What a small but powerful book. War Hero, Al Sokratis is hit buy a car by a man who is distracted while driving and texting. Al finds himself in the afterlife with an amazing opportunity to re-live any five days from his extraordinary life. Will he chose to re-live his best days or his worst and will he try to change the outcome. This was a wonderful poignant story that really makes you think what you would do if you were given the same opportunity, would you re-live your best memories or would you try to change the times that you regretted.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all who like a heartwarming story that is thought provoking. Great Read!

This was my first book by Matt Micros, but definitely not my last. I literally read this in just a couple of hours. I loved the nostalgic tones of this book, taking me back to those times in history which I lived and also the times I didn’t. This book will long have me thinking about how I live my life, the choices I make, and how they can affect others. I am looking so forward to reading Five Days and all of his other books. Highly recommended for readers who want a quick, light read, and books which make you think.

A big thank you to Goodreads giveaways and the author, Matt Micros, for a signed copy of this book, accompanied by a very nice letter.

This is a quick and easy, feel-good read, and the premise is fun, if not completely original. If you could relive five of days of your life, either to just re-experience them or to change the events and outcomes from those days, which five would you choose?

Al is a good guy, but he is a GUY. For a short book, it has a decent amount of football and baseball. I must say that I was quite taken aback by his first memory of being in a high school locker room. The boys find a way to peek into the girls' locker room, and that's part of a good memory. How is that okay in this day and age?? I understand authors should be able to write about whatever they want to, but this is written from a very white, middle-to-late aged male perspective, and I therefore found some situations a little hard to relate to. But it was touching how much Al cared about the people around him and unselfishly used his "days" to try to change their lives for the better.

Even though I haven't read the first book in the series, I was excited to win this in a Goodreads Giveaway. The book can be read as a standalone, as the concept is the same but the characters are entirely different.

This was a light, heartwarming story. The main protagonist, Al, is a bit too good to be realistic, but the concept of the story is very interesting. I actually learned some things about American history. I had never heard of the ill-fated Teacher In Space program before. The book could use some professional editing to clean up some typos, but the writing was lovely otherwise.

A quick little read. The sequel to Five Days but can be read as a stand alone. I had no problem reading it.

What would you do if you were given the chance to relive any five days of your life? That is the premise of this book. Al is given the choice to relive any five days and change them, if he wants.

Recommend it!
