About the author

Carrie L. Lukas is the managing director of the Independent Women's Forum. Lukas is the co-author of Liberty Is No War on Women, and the author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex, and Feminism, which was published by Regnery Publishing in May 2006. She is also a contributor to Forbes.com and the vice president for policy and economics at the Independent Women's Voice.

Lukas's commentaries have appeared in numerous newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA Today, and The New York Post. Carrie has testified before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security. Before joining IWF, she worked on Capitol Hill as the senior domestic policy analyst for the House Republican Policy Committee. She is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. She currently lives with her husband and four children in Berlin, Germany.

Being a liberal, I read these books sometimes to find out what the other side is thinking; whether there are any valid arguments against liberal positions on controversial issues; and whether extreme PC-ness is clouding my view.

Well, if this book is the conservatives' idea about capturing minds, I'd say they have to up their game a bit. I read only a couple of chapters, but that was enough to show me that this won't convert anyone other than those who are already half-convinced. It's preaching to the choir.

The message seems to be: "Girls! You are here on earth to fulfil yourself by marrying and procreating! Don't spoil it by listening to feminists!"

أيضا الفصل الخاص بالعنف ضد المرأة والرسالة الخاطئة التي تُوجه للنساء بأن الرجال بشكل عام خطر على سلامة المرأة وان العنف ضدها أمر لا مفر منه, صحيح انه العنف ضد المرأة موجود بالفعل على اختلاف المجتمعات والبيئات ولابد من توعية المرأة بطرق منعه بكافة أشكاله, لكن بالتأكيد ليست كل علاقة بين الرجل والمرأة يسودها العنف وخاصة الزواج, استخدام العنف ضد المرأة انحراف لكنه لا يجب أن يُعمم على كل الرجال
عرضت الكاتبة في الفصول الأخرى موضوعات الزواج والطلاق, الإنجاب والإجهاض, وتصويت المرأة في الانتخابات
ووضحت بعض الجوانب الأخرى المختلفة عما يتم الترويج له في المدراس والجامعات ووسائل الإعلام وسياسة الدولة

في العموم -وبرغم اختلال الواقع وخاصة بالنسبة للمرأة في الكثير من المجتمعات -أظن أن الأمور واضحة لأصحاب العقول السليمة من الطرفين

This is a good book written by a woman who has concerns with contemporary feminism. No doubt this book’s stance would be controversial. After I finished the book I read some reviews online and I thought some of the critics were rather unfair. For instance, one review I read accused the author of saying women should earn less money then men, that a working woman would be a horrible mom, etc., which reveals more about the lack of attention of detail of the reviewer than the book itself. The author is nuance enough in the book to say that polls and studies show that women sometimes pursue occupational choices based on flexibility over the concern of salary and no where does she say women should earn less money than that of the work of man. A careful reading of the book would indicate that the author realizes that sometimes moms have to work and she gently presses that the public should know about concerns of the correlation of leaving a child in day care with problems. She’s even nuance enough to say that this does not mean day care itself is the root of all children’s problem. Contrary to some feminists whom she quotes that has a hatred for marriage, the author defends that marriage is not necessarily always a bad thing for woman (though of course there can be such a thing as a bad marriage, but it’s not marriage per se that’s bad). Statistics and studies show that married adults are healthier, financially better of, have more emotional satisfying sex and live more satisfying life than those not married. She also debunks popular urban legend that marriage tend to foster domestic abuse on women, since the data indicate most abuse occur in a non-married situation where couples are shacking up. I’m glad that the book argue that divorce should not be taken lightly as some feminists make it to be. I wish the chapter on abortion could have been better written since this chapter’s main focus was for women to have access to information from both camp rather be one-sided in being pro-choice. Worthwhile read.

الكتاب بما يحويه من دراسات وإحصائيات موجه لبلدها أمريكا.

الكتاب مُترجم، فهو برأيي ليس موجهاً لنا لا عرباً ولا مسلمين لكن ترجمة الكتاب ونقله للعربية مفيدٌ جداً من ناحيتين: الأولى: أنه يُعرّفنا على آفات الفكر النسوي في أرضه التي نشأ فيها-فالنسوية غربيةُ الولادة والمنشأ- وهذا يفيدنا في تقييم هذا الفكر وإن كان يصلُح أو لا ف(الحكمة ضالة المؤمن فحيث وجدها فهو أحق الناس بها)* . أما الناحية الثانية: فهي معرفة مآلات تطبيق أي من هذا الفكر في بلادنا فالعاقل هو من اتعظ بغيره.
وبعد: فأني رأيت في الكاتبة شجاعةً تُحمد عليها فهي كما هو واضح قد خالفت "الموجة السائدة" و"سرت عكس الموجة" ولا تُخطئ عينك أن فيها شيئاً من الغيرة على ما يحصل في بلادها ونساء بلدها فهي تريد لهن الأفضل. لكن يضل فيها شيء من التحفظ لبعض الاستنتاجات التي إن أكملت في التحليل والتفكير فيها فستصل لنتيجة مخالفة لما هو سائد، فهي لا تنفي وتبطل كل ما هو سائد بل أرى فيها شيئاً من التحفظ غير المبرر عندي.

الكتاب لا يهاجم المراءه و لا يطالب باعادتها للمنزل بل يفند مساؤى الاستقلال الزائد للمراءه مثل اهمالها لمنزلها و نسيانها للامومه فى ظل السعى وراء العمل او النديه مع الرجل النديه التى تجعلها تحاربه و تكره و لا تنظر له كشريك حياه بل خصم عتيد كتاب ممتع و انصح كل بنت ان تقراءه .

كتاب جيّد..تستعرض فيه الكاتبة أبرز أفكار النسوية الأمريكية وتناقشها، والكتاب موجّه بالأساس إلى الشبّات الأمريكيات في محاولة للحوار الهادئ معهم بضرورة الوعي بخطر النسوية الأمريكية على حياتهم..

النقد كان جريئًا في بعض الأحيان وبلا مواربة، وعلى استحياءٍ في أخرى.

لا تملك المرأة المسلمة بعد الاطلاع على زبالات الفكر النسوي إلا أن تحمد الله أن كرمها وأنعم عليها بنعمة الإسلام؛ فالحمد لله.

This book is terrible. Stupid and a waste of money. I bought it with the hopes of reading on the opposing views to feminism, just so I am not blindly agreeing with the movement. I hoped for some facts and figures that are well thought out, broken down and objectively laid out for me to compare with my current knowledge on the subject. I got nothing. I got a ridiculous jumble of bullcrap, written against what feminism is assumed to be in the common form. I wonder if the author of this book just basically pulled some of the "quotes" from feminism moment out of his butt and opposed them with his personal uneducated opinions, mixed it with public assumptions and turned it into a book, without even bothering to hire an editor. How many times can a sentence be repeated? I probably read the same sentences 3 times in each chapter, wanting to scream, "YES I READ THIS SENTENCE BEFORE, AND IT STILL SOUNDS STUPID!" Good thing audible has a return policy, so I could use the dollars spent on a more substantial and educating book. I wonder if this author ever even read "The Feminine Mystique" or "The Beauty Myth" before attempting to write this ridiculous book full of false assumptions about what feminism is all about. It is about women being given a CHOICE! Not being forced or ridiculed in either direction be it conservative or liberal. This book just helps add to the hostile assumption that feminists are against being mothers, marriage and loyalty, and all they want is screw around and compete with men all the time. Sure there is free speech, so this book was published, but unfortunately I wish it wasn't or at least was written with SOME education on the subject. If you want to learn about feminism, this is the last book to read. I am still searching for a good book that is actually written to point out the ACTUAL flaws of this movement, if there is any.

This is a great book for people who have never heard "the other side" to feminism. I don't even know what you'd call someone like me - I'd like to simply say that I'm a real woman. There are a lot of things the feminists preach so much that they take for granted that they are "facts" but are lies or misconceptions - many of them don't even know what a real woman is anymore.

This book is presented in a non-"preachy" format. The author simply wants women to know ALL the facts before they make their life choices, because right now women usually only get the feminist side, both in school and in the mainstream media. A good choice can only be made when a person has all possible information for both sides of an issue. This book gives women the power to make good choices.

What I enjoyed about this book is that it covered a good amount of denied truths concerning the Feminist promise. Overall, what she has to say I find to be quite aligned with my own beliefs and I appreciate a book that touches upon the less popularized viewpoint that says that feminism is causing more pain, confusion and remorse than liberation. She gives information throughout to back up her argument as well. However, I didn't like the way the book was set up. It read like a text book, which isn't something inherently off putting to me, but didn't draw me in with this particular book. That may be partially due to the fact that the book wasn't really illuminating anything revolutionary to me, since I already believed that the feminist promise was/is an empty and unfulfilling lie.

I picked up this book thinking that it might be a fun take on feminism, maybe something I haven't read before or a view point I haven't seen. I was right, it was something I've never heard before. This book is republican propaganda swill at it's very finest. I wasn't aware that I was suppose to earn less money then men, I'm a horrible mom if I go to work, or that the prevelance of sexual assault is grossly exaggerated until I read this book. If you happen to accidently buy this, use it to prop up that short leg on your coffee table.

Here's a book that deals with issues of genuine importance to a majority of women--not merely the issues which leading feminists SAY are important. Author Carrie Lukas does a great job of showing where the modern feminist movement has gone off the rails, and how the movement is, in many ways, no longer looking out for the needs and interests of the average woman. Furthermore, Lukas illustrates how a certain amount of rabble-rousing has led to a widespread misunderstanding of certain social issues; for example, the reality behind "the wage gap" and the unintended negative consequences of government-funded daycare programs. I really wanted to give this book four stars rather than three, but couldn't for a couple of reasons. 1.) The statistics used in this book are telling, but now somewhat out of date. 2.) For whatever reason, this seems to be the most typo-ridden entry in the P.I.G. series. Still, if I could recommend one book to every high-school girl in the country, this would probably be it.

I don't think I agree with everything, but having encountered a volatile and aggressively maintained deficit about happy heterosexual anything in my college education, it was actually quite refreshing to see anyone actually write about such things. The thought that a man and a woman can happily and mutually choose to be in a meaningful and rewarding relationship is so taboo that psychology classes treat such things like most zoology departments treat unicorns: A fanciful thought that doesn't exist, but by golly, wouldn't it be neat?

I'm beginning to think of the kind of guy I would like being the same kind of entity, but then, I digress.

I would recommend it to anyone, whether it would just reaffirm their existence as they know it or make them mad as could be...

Not very helpful or well written. The arguments were just not well put or logical. Although the author makes a legitimate point that women have been misled she does little to explain how to get to a better perspective. She only claims that her perspective is better. So what? If you are going to debate a point, make a point for heaven's sake! The only redeeming quality of this book is it's good list of reference material for further study and reading on the topic from both perspectives. Very meh.

كتاب ممتاز، يوضح بالإحصاءات والدراسات الميدانية المغالطات التي ترسمها الجمعيات النسوية و الصورة النمطية التي يرسمهاالإعلام والفكر الحداثي للحقوق الضائعة للمرأة الغربية. من خلال تناول قضايا: الزواج، الطلاق، الإجهاض، الجنس والحرية الجنسية، عمل المرأة، الحب والعاطفة، الذكورية، العنف ضد المرأة، تربية الأطفال.
الكتاب لا ينحاز لوجهة نظر معينة بقدر ما يحرص على تبيان زيف أو نقص المعلومات المقدمة من الإعلام والجماعات النسوية، والتي تؤدي لقرارات خاطئة تخص حياة المرأة ومستقبلها.
سأهديه لبناتي في الوقت المناسب إن شاء الله :)

The new Left promised women they could have it all if they rejected traditional female roles and embraced sexual liberation and radical egalitarianism. Instead of having it all, many liberated women find themselves alone, frustrated, and confused. The author believes men and women are different, "safe sex" is often not that safe, the biological clock does tick, and feminism has encouraged men to never grow up and be responsible.

Seems to be a bit underrated. Apart from the common typos, the content is quite good. Some arguments could have been stronger. The final chapter was a mini-compendium that not only covers women's issues specifically but also the rest of the conservative viewpoint on many domestic policy issues. CS Lewis' encourages readers to skip pages if things don't interest them, but, the book was a counterexample. The last chapter was a condensed "introduction" to the average conservative stance.

This entire line of books is incredibly good, chocked full of information you usually don't find in history books or classes, giving new light to "accepted" history.

This book is more geared toward women, I think, trying to get them to see how feminism has actually harmed women. Men won't get much from this one.

Pretty bad. Cites a lot of interesting sources but couldn't get throughout it because of the stances the author was taking against feminism in the most general and stereotypically way possible. Se is standing on one end of the spectrum screaming at the other end and most views are somewhere in between. No enough debunking myths versus just hating.

A good solid rebuttal on feminists' argument. Although the facts and data are mostly outdated by now. Need updates in order for the arguments to stay relevant. One of the most data heavy of PIG series I've ever read, thus making it one of the least exciting reading. The sort of book we're needing against the onslaught of feminists and PC polices nowadays.

Page turner! Loved this book! As women, we get so many mixed messages in society. This book totally helped break it down so you can make informed decisions about your womanhood, your place in society and how to deal with those that disagree with your position. Great read!

Although I initially thought that The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex and Feminism by Carrie L. Lukas might be full of answers to FAQs about women to help guys understand them, I quickly realized I was quite mistaken; just kidding. The author takes a look at what the 1960s movement commonly known as Women's Liberation that told women that they could do everything themselves and didn't need to rely on anyone else. Many were convinced that this meant they should focus on careers and the climb to the top of the business world and that a desire to be a stay-at-home mom was for losers. I found this book to actually be an interesting discussion of these goals and related issues. The author takes on the question of did the 1960s movement actually help or hurt most women. One thing I did learn that is almost universally true is that most groups, whether talking about women, men, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Catholics, etc., are not made up of identical robotic beings but a whole spectrum of individuals. In the case of women, there certainly are some who want the challenge of battling their way to the top of their career choice. But there are also some who just want to focus on raising good children. Some want success in the military or as police while others want to help people as physicians, ministers, or social workers. The bottom line is actually kind of intuitive that women (people) are different and want different things. Did I really need to read a book to realize that? Maybe not, but I thought it was an interesting analysis and discussion about women's issues.

Contains useful info and a level-headed assessment of the issues. But it doesn't go far enough. Contains meaningful statistics, but feels rather dated (2004 maybe?) and only has surface-level discussions. Doesn't connect the conservative ideas to a greater worldview.

I guess I thought that this was going to poke fun at feminism in a smart way that would elucidate some of the problems with its theories. But it turned out to be more of a social-conservative perspective on where 2nd and 3rd wave feminism got it wrong. That might have been an interesting perspective, too, but it seemed so superficially-argued that I could not even get past the first few chapters. Coming at the subject from an interest in the men's rights movement (and generally highly-critical of feminist thought), I nevertheless find that social conservative views of both women and men are extremely...limiting. It seemed that Lukas was not likely to recognized or discuss what I have come to see as core issues: male disposability, "victim ideology", the flaws surrounding patriarchy theory, etc. Neither could I find it particularly humorous or satirical. I downloaded it on a whim from Audible, gave it a go, but soon abandoned it. If you long for a time when men were men, and women were women, then you may find much to appreciate in Lukas's perspective. Otherwise...

Неслучайно на корицата му е нарисувана пластмасовата жена-идеал на 50-те - безгръбначна домакиня, без собствени цели в живота, която съществува за да обслужва мъжа и децата си, да готви и чисти.

Прочетох само първите две глави от това... нещо. Вместо, както ме заблуди заглавието, да говори политически некоректно за феминизма (а има какво да се каже по темата), книгата се плъзга по плитката нишка на плоското морализаторстване, описвайки колко било зле, че феминизмът учел жените да правят секс за удоволствие и да се стремят към професионална кариера, вместо да копнеят за единственото свое предназначение - дом, деца и съпруг, който да ги издържа.

Рядко попадам на толкова нелепи и назадничави откровени глупости.

I like politically incorrect rants. I like feminism. I like to have an open mind.

This book was interesting and has some good ideas, but I think it loses the battle by being redundant. It gets boring hearing the same thing over and over again and begins to sound like a sermon.

I will probably look for a similar book, to see if there's anyone who can make this argument sound better or less judgy judgy.

They aren't kidding. This is a very politically incorrect book. Though some of the info/stats are interesting, it irks me how much they assume about feminism and "its hatred" towards marriage, sex, and inequality. Urgh.

A lively and informative read. It covers a pretty good variety of topics. Important to note is that this is an introductory sort of book and as such is not comprehensive, nor is it intended to be. And it needs a better editor.

I was all on-board until the Teabagger rhetoric at the end. Yes, feminism is a force for evil in this world today and isn't about "equality" at all. But the idea that de-regulation of the market is going to fix the problem? From where did you pull that non-sequitur?
