Melinda Kinsman lives on a small peninsular called The Wirral, in North West England. She loves climbing mountains and rock-climbing (both abroad, and in her local mountains of Snowdonia), and she has always had a soft-spot for cuddly toys!

As Melinda has to lie down a lot each day, due to health issues, she spends most of that time using her iPad to write and illustrate her books. (Drawing can be especially challenging, as she needs to keep the iPad steady by balancing it with one leg up in the air - much to the amusement of her family!)

Melinda originally wrote a book of poems for her 6 year old niece a few years ago, but never dreamt of trying to publish them, or of trying to illustrate them herself. The advent of ebooks and handheld tablets now makes self-publishing an exciting possibility for her!

The Top of the Wardrobe Gang series of books are credited to both Melinda and a motley crew of cuddly toy characters. This bunch of cuddly toys live on the Top of the Wardrobe - they like to call this the "penthouse suite"! They enjoy reading, and want to try writing their own books. Most of the cartoon gang characters are based on "real" members of Melinda's cuddly toy family, though some have had to have their names and appearances changed to allow their inclusion!

You can find out more about Melinda, the gang, and their books from their website at http://topofthewardrobegang.weebly.com

‘Hopefully there’s ONE thing you’ve learned - Never ask a dragon over for a meal’

British author Melinda Kinsman both writes and illustrates her popular children's books from her home on a small peninsula called The Wirral, in North West England. Melinda has to lie down a lot each day, due to health issues, and she spends most of that time using her iPad to write and illustrate her books. That most assuredly does not deter her from composing excellent books that entertain both children and the lucky adults reading to them!

Melinda takes on a wonderful enigma – whether or not to invite a dragon for tea. The lad who invites is frustrated at every turn: the guest dragon eats everything (including the boy’s food, the table legs, the doors, and because of his indigestion, his fiery breathe burns grandma’s hair), tells ridiculous tales and makes it clear that dragons cannot be pets1

Once again a delightfully written and illustrated book of adventure and entertainment that has something for everyone, including some puzzles – matching shadows with pictures, spotting differences, a maze puzzle, learning letters and numbers and more. Melinda just gets better and better! Welcome back Melinda Kinsman!

This is a fun, fun book that I highly recommend. Never invite a dragon to tea. He will eat his food and eat yours, too. He will then eat the table legs and doors. His fire burp will light Grandma's hair on fire. He will boast about his stories. What else he does you will want to see because the pictures are bright and vivid. Remembering, never ask a dinosaur to tea.
I found this book on Amazon for free. Lucky me.

My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.

Great rhyme

It's a fun light harder story to read. I read the digital copy, but would recommend the print version because of all the included activities.

Why do you never ask a Dragon to do something with you?
1 example is when you invite the Dragon to come over & eat.
When he is done not only will he eat his portion of food but yours will disappear in his belly also. Then your family might not have any tables & chairs. Yum!
What other things will the Dragon try & get you interested in?

Will you invite the Dragon over again?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s bedtime story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational adventure bedtime story movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

This dragon looks far too cute to be mischievous! But hey ho, as many of us know, looks can often be very misleading.
Anyway, for this young lad, the idea of having a great time with a cute dragon seemed like a jolly good idea at the time. However, his anticipated fun and exciting adventure didn't exactly go to plan:
Would the dragon be prepared to share with him? No!
Would the dragon respect his home and possessions? No!
Would the dragon keep his 'burning hot flames' under control? No!
Would the dragon play with him and respect his treasured pets? No!
Did the dragon tell him the truth and obey him? No!
Would the dragon take him out for a fun and exciting ride? No!
Did the dragon fancy anything that looked good or smelt tasty? Yes!
Did the dragon try to trick and deceive him? Yes!

This rhyming story has beautiful and colourful illustrations. Toddlers, early readers and young children will find this book engaging and very amusing.
Children will enjoy the puzzles and learning activities.

I'm already looking forward to future editions of this brand new series.
I received a free promotional copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review.

I was very pleased with this book. A boy invites a dragon for a meal and finds out that dragons are not very nice. The story and the characters in this book are a lot of fun. The dragon keeps doing a bunch of naughty things and the boy tries to fix everything. In the end, the boy learns it is not a good idea to invite a dragon to his house.
This book teaches in a smart and funny way what is naughty behavior that a child should avoid having. It is written in a very clear, simple and cool way that is entertaining.
The illustrations are very good for this text. The style is very simple, almost geometrical, with plain colors, with good compositions and professionally done. Nevermind its simplicity the pictures still convey a lot of personality to the characters and humor.
At the end of the story, there are nice games for kids to play with some learning value.
My 6-year-old boy liked this book very much and asked me to read it multiple times. He liked the games a lot as well.
I think 3 to 6-year-old kids will enjoy this book very much.

Why not invite a dragon to tea? That's the question the young boy asks at the beginning of this story. He soon learns the answer! The first part of the book depicts what could happen should a dragon come to tea. (This book is written by an English author. Tea is what folks in the USA call dinner.) After rescuing everyone and everything, the second half of the book informs the boy how boastful (untruthful) dragons can be regarding their experiences.

A truly DELIGHTFUL, AMUSING, well-written and beautifully illustrated book for young children. At the end your child will enjoy the six puzzles provided, still in the same colorful format.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE that this book is NOT suitable for all devices so please check the listing carefully to avoid disappointment. I have a Kindle Paperwhite so had to read this on my Cloud. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

A little boy narrates the story of his experience with a dragon. Why should one never invite a dragon, you ask?

Readers soon find out that a dragon is not an appropriate pet or houseguest. He will nibble on your younger siblings, set your bed on fire, eat your pet goldfish, and the furniture. His hunger is never satisfied, and he refuses to listen to reason. By this end of this hilarious rhyming tale, the narrator discovers the mistake he has made.

This book is the first of a new rhyming series with simple rhymes, easy to read text and pleasing illustrations. Toddlers and preschoolers will love its simplicity, while children who are a bit older will delight in the puzzles, mazes, and matching activities included as a bonus at the end of the story. Looks like the beginning of another successful book series by this author.

My 5-year-old son absolutely loved this book for his bedtime story. Brightly coloured and sturdy pages made this a really fun book to hold and read together. The illustrations are brilliant and the silly antics of the dragon made my little boy laugh out loud. In his own words; "double thumbs up! I loved the bit when the Grandma's hair caught fire and I loved the things to do at the back and I want to get more of these books." I think that's a winning recommendation!

Author and illustrator, Melinda Kinsman presents this sweet and funny read a loud, "Never Ask a Dragon."
The dragon's responses made me laugh out aloud. The illustrations are adorable and young readers will love the bright colors. It's also fun to see the activities Ms. Kinsman adds in the back of all her books.

I highly recommend this book. It's a must have for your little ones.
