Unveil the heart of speech-language pathology. Focusing on the power of the connections we make with our clients and their families, Phương Liên Palafox shares her journey and experiences to motivate and inspire those who work with individuals with communication needs. She demonstrates how our meaningful efforts transcend the boundaries of sound production, language, voice and fluency. This book will re-engage you in your work and encourage you to focus on the most important elements in our field—the people we support and the relationships we build with them.
I had the pleasure of seeing Phuong present at ASHA Connect in Minneapolis a couple years ago. Her book did not disappoint! I admire her as an immigrant, wife, mother, and of course SLP! This is one I can see myself pulling out to reread when needed (and I don’t reread books! ;) )!
4.5 stars. This book was a great read before heading back for what is certain to be an unprecedented year for ALL educators. This author is inspiring in her story and her urging to use your heart. I feel like her advice can transcend from Speech Pathology to all facets of life. This was a great book I’d highly recommended to all my SLP friends.
This book filled me with so much admiration for all SLP’s, and it confirmed my decision to be one. I can’t count on one hand how many times the book made me teary eyed. I can’t wait till the day that I am the one changing people’s lives and helping others communicate more effectively and influencing others to join this passion filled field.
I am looking for some information for becoming SLP. If you have the same purpose, maybe this book won’t help you that much. I guess it’s better for already SLP , not for SLP-to-be.
I thought this book was excellent! It’s short and to the point! Phuong seamlessly integrates life stories throughout the book and encourages the reader throughout! Definitely a must read for SLP’s or anyone considering the field! I will say a lot of her scenarios and tips were addressed for school based SLPs or SLPs who work with kids BUT I do think the overall message of “remember your why” is important for all to read!
I laughed. I cried. I love every minute of this book. Listened to Phuong Lien Palafox speak at SLP Summit and loved her so much I bought her book. It’s an honest account about being an SLP, especially in the schools. Her book reminds people why they chose to join the greatest profession around. Highly recommend.
Loved this book! Talks about all the ups and downs of clients, families and the job. Reminds you that every student has a story beyond the service you provide but leaves you feeling ready to be the best SLP you can!
I got to hear Phuong speak about so many of the topics in this book at my school, and she was amazing! I have a lot of admiration for SLPs and the way they're changing lives. This book opened my eyes to the challenges ahead but left me feeling inspired and excited about becoming an SLP!
