The Amish Widow's Christmas Hope is such a sweet enduring story written by Carrie Lighte in her Amish of Serenity Ridge series. This story is filled with well developed characters, forgiveness, family, and faith. The author has done a wonderful job telling her story thru her characters. When two people are thrown back together unexpectedly because of an inheritance the reception they get from one another is very frosty.

Fern Glick and Walker Huyard were once fully committed to each other. When Fern has to travel out of state to care for a family member she learns Walker has married her cousin. Feeling very betrayed she married another and continues on with her life although she has never let go of her bitterness. When she travels back to Serenity Ridge to accept her inheritance and has to deal with Walker the road is very bumpy. The journey these two embark upon will eventually reveal hidden secrets on both sides. They are both determined never to reveal their secret to each other. When their children build a bond and they spend more time together emotions start to change but it may not be enough to blend these two families.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Congratulations to Carrie Lighte for writing such a tender story for her readers enjoyment.

This takes place in Maine at Christmas. I didn't like either of the main characters. They caused themselves and each other a lot of unnecessary drama. Although, if they had been honest from the start, this would have been a short story. There is a happy ending, but I didn't enjoy the journey.

The Amish Widow's Christmas Hope by Carrie Lighte
(Amish of Serenity Ridge Book 4)
True love always finds a way…
Can their temporary house
become a permanent home?
After inheriting her uncle’s house, single mother Fern Glick returns to Serenity Ridge with the intention to sell and leave town quickly. But her reluctance to settle so close to former love Walker Huyard—the man who broke her heart—begins to falter as their children forge a bond. With Christmas approaching, spending the holiday together might just be enough to reignite the love they once shared.
This is Fern Glick and Walker Huyard's story.
Fern Glick crouched down so her face was level with her children’s faces. “I should be home by lunchtime. Remember to use your best manners and do whatever Jaala asks you to do,” she instructed them.
Patience, five, nodded obediently, but Phillip was distracted by the chatter of Jaala’s grandchildren as they put on their coats and boots in the mudroom at the opposite end of the kitchen.
“Can we go outside, too, Mamm?” the six-year-old asked.
Walker climbed into his buggy, hoping the meeting with the attorney wouldn’t take long; this was a busy week at work. During the warmer months, he was employed full-time by an Englisch tree service, but in winter, he took odd jobs here and there. From Thanksgiving until Christmas, Walker helped out at Levi Swarey’s Christmas tree farm in the mornings, cutting and baling trees and loading them onto Englischers’ vehicles. The nearer Christmas drew, the more frantic the customers became, and Walker especially regretted leaving Levi short staffed on a Friday, their second busiest day of the week.
I imagine Roman bequeathed the haus to Jane, he thought as he guided his horse toward Main Street. He figured he ought to feel grateful, but instead the prospect overwhelmed him. Walker wasn’t adept at negotiating legal matters and completing paperwork. Besides, the Lord had already provided him with a good living, and the house he shared with his daughter and mother had room to spare. Either I’ll have to sell the haus and put the money in a trust fund or rent it out until Jane becomes an adult and can decide for herself what to do with it.
Walker didn’t like picturing his daughter as an adult; she was growing too fast already. He smiled as he thought of her practicing for the annual Christmas program at school; she was so excited it was all she could talk about. Jane had been assigned three Bible verses to recite and although she’d memorized them thoroughly, she kept practicing, worried she might stutter or forget a word. She probably developed that anxiety from being around her groossdaadi. Gloria’s daed was so particular; everything had to be just right and even then, he was rarely satisfied.
I highly recommend reading.
The Amish Widow's Christmas Hope by Carrie Lighte is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Carrie Lighte.

A poignant tale that stirred all kinds of emotions as the story unfolds.
The single mother Fern Glick's life has never been easy or a smooth ride. She has struggled just to survive and made an effort to overcome and forget the one heartbreak in her past.
Fern has guts. She is a strong and smart woman, capable and able, willing to make the ends meet. She has her edges, she has her weaknesses, but every decision she makes is for the better of her children, and I can only admire her.
Walker Huyard once hurt Fern more than most could be able to do, but there were reasons that Fern is not aware of.
I loved the way Fern's children interacted with Walker's daughter, and how Walker was with all the kids. It was sweet, heartening, he had such a tender, loving way to be with all the children.
Walker and Fern have to learn to forgive and forget, reparations of the past are not easy to come as they had such permanent resolutions. I think they were well suited for each other. The chemistry was there, the connection was strong, and the intentions were earnest.
I enjoyed the touching story of love, forgiveness, and finding your place in the world. There are many hurdles Fern and Walker had to face until they found peace, yet the reward is priceless.

This story will tug at your heart, when doing "the right thing", breaks so many hearts. As you begin this read, you can see that forgiveness is really needed here, not only for others, but for yourself.
Ah, the children, yes, they will make you smile, and the parents have done a great job raising them so far, and where the adults hold back they have open arms.
I found myself looking at both sides of this story, and it is not a win win situation, but more a survival, and thinking of an unborn child.
You will be quickly turning pages here for answers, and will Fern stay in Maine? She now owns a home, her children love it, but too much heartache, can she even be in the same room with Walker?
I really enjoyed this read, all the while hoping for the best, can hearts heal and forgive?

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Love Inspired, and was not required to give a positive review.
