The phenomenally successful Bad Kitty series is purr-fect for fans of Dav Pilkey's Dog Man and Ben Clanton's Narwhal and Jelly series, reluctant readers, comic book fans, and cranky cats.
It's Bad Kitty's birthday, and you're invited!

It's packed with deadpan humor, rich tidbits of cat information -- and even some suspense! Who took Kitty's presents? Why are Kitty's friends so bizarre? Readers will laugh out loud at Kitty's feline mood swings, and they'll be touched by the heartwarming visit from a surprise guest.

This is the review of Sydney, my 7 year old daughter.
This book is about Bad Kitty and her friends, Big Kitty, the Twin Kitties, Stinky Kitty, Chatty Kitty, Pretty Kitty, Strange Kitty and the dog (who is not kitty's friend). This story takes place during the day at Kitty's house. Bad Kitty was having her Birthday. Since it takes place at Bad Kitty's house, she REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to open a present.
I liked the book because it was funny and there were lots of fun things in the book. I liked reading about all the toys that Bad kitty wanted. Bad Kitty gets into a lot of trouble and that is why I think it is funny. I think that kids in grades, 1, 2, 3 and 4 will like this book.
You should read this book you will get better at reading and if you are already good at reading, it is just fun to read!
DAD'S NOTES
These books are really fun for independent reading. There is plenty of writing for your young reader but there is also lots of fun illustrations which will help guide your reader as well as interest your reluctant reader. My Daughter can read one of these in about an hour because they really grasp her attention. These books are a big hit around my house.
Happiness is finding a book you know your child will love. And there is nothing like the perverse joy of having your child sneak off to read instead of doing what you ‘want’ them to do. Thankfully, many of the great books my kids have relished such as The Lightening Thief, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Sisters Grimm come with sequels that satisfy as much as the first one does. This was never truer than with Nick Bruel’s latest Bad Kitty book, Happy Birthday Bad Kitty.
Oooh, it is so good. My kids understandably fought over it when it first came. However, it is so delightfully funny that neither one of them has grown even slightly tired of it. Neither have I. Mr. Bruel has managed the seemingly impossible balance of simple sentences and repetition that early readers need with an entertaining and fast paced story that appeals to all ages. Plus, he teaches all of us some interesting things about cats in the process. This is particularly good for my younger daughter who is bored with the books at her level, but not quite able to read the books that really interest her - i.e. the books her older sister is reading. I highly recommend this book for your next birthday party gift for anyone from Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
Now all we have to do is wait for the next release of Ivy & Bean ( (October 14th) for Georgia and the Mysterious Benedict Society (October 9th) for Violet.
I enjoyed this one more than BAD KITTY GETS A BATH. You would think Kitty's owners would learn, since the same thing seems to happen every year. But it was sweet to see Bad Kitty's baby pictures and to learn that she was a good little kitty when she lived with her mother. And you have to like Strange Kitty, and all Bad Kitty's other friends, even if none of them gives good presents.
This hilarious book will hook kids new to reading chapter books with its goofy humor and exaggerated illustrations. It’s Bad Kitty’s birthday, and she’s hoping for a really special birthday gift. All of the neighborhood cats come: Chatty Kitty, Strange Kitty, Twin Kitties and Stinky Kitty. But someone keeps sneaking away with the presents after they’ve been unwrapped! Bad Kitty reminds me of Garfield the Cat and Calvin and Hobbes, but this story reads more like a traditional chapter book with lots of illustrations. Bruel balances simple sentences with a fast-paced story that’s perfect for new readers. He’s even thrown in all sorts of nonfiction information in Uncle Murray’s Fun Facts. If you like this book, try other Bad Kitty books in the series — they’ve hooked many reluctant readers who read this again and again!
This book is in one of my favorite series. It's Kitty's birthday. He and his owner set up decorations. The owner invites all the kitty's in neighborhood. They are big kitty, the twin kitty's, stinky kitty, chatty kitty, pretty kitty, and strange kitty. They don't give him very good presents. Someone keeps steeling them and the owner thinks it's kitty. But it's not him and he thinks it's one of the other kitty's but it's not them either. Once kitty figure's that out he realizes that it's puppy. When all the kitty's leave, the owner gives him an extra special surprise. His mother. Kitty is thrilled and that is the end of kitty's excellent birthday.
A funny, random chapter book about (surprise, surprise) Bad Kitty's birthday. Other kitties come for a party. I gotta say, Weird Kitty is my favourite. And there is a character called Mama Kitty, which makes me a little teary because of my good Mama Kitty, who I still miss sometimes. Anyway...funny book. Takes a half-hour to read. And Uncle Murray's comments are funny.
Okay, this is a kid's book, but it is so hilarious. I love the Bad Kitty books. It is Bad Kitty's birthday, and she is having a birthday party with all of the neighborhood kitties invited. In this book we also find out some background information about Bad Kitty's kittenhood. And, as usual, Uncle Murray has some helpful cat facts and tips.
I read the whole story in meow language it's totally a great and funny book for kids I judge the book by its cover and I shouldn't have because it was great so I'm sure everybody else would like it 😊😉😉
Not quite as funny as Bad Kitty Gets A Bath, but still highly enjoyable. I hope there are more chapter-book Bad Kitty's on the way- he's very worthy :)
Bad Kitty's birthday is full of surprises, and they are not necessarily good surprises. Bad Kitty is already quite displeased that it is her birthday, but still, keeps the mindset that if all goes well, she gets the gifts she wants, and everyone celebrates just her for a day... well then maybe her birthday is not all that bad. However, as the series continues to prove book after book, nothing ever really goes the way Kitty wishes.
My rating is very bias, as I absolutely loved Bad Kitty books when I was younger. I came across this book from my old collection, and decided I had to re-read it. The format of this multimodal book is easy to tell. Bad Kitty is a graphic novel chapter book. This is easy to tell as the pages display large pictures and words, sometimes with no real description, and rather just dialogue or words. Bad Kitty books are comedically fiction, which is why I believe they attract young readers. The plot lines and characters are so ridiculously silly, that children almost cannot pick up a Bad Kitty book without enjoying it and being able to laugh at it. Bad Kitty books are very fun reads, and could be used in classrooms for free reading time. I remember being excited when we were allowed to choose a free read in the library - I always ran straight to the Bad Kitty books. If you enjoy the Bad Kitty book series, you will likely also enjoy the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Both series' are lighthearted, comedic, and easy reads!
Nunca había leído algo sobre gatos. Los gatos no son mis animales favoritos, pero este libro me causó mucha gracia. Bad Kitty es muy gruñona (como yo), en la edición vienen curiosidades sobre los gatos y eso me gustó.
I read a whole bunch of these with my niece a few years back. It was time well spent, on all scores. I came across this one in a library sale, so I got to revisit it. I would enjoy spending time with Chatty Kitty, Strange Kitty, and, it must be said, Bad Kitty.
I had no idea what to expect going into this book. It's just a little children's book but that said, it's adorable and touched my heart deeply in ways... Very sweet and I will likely try to read more from this series. I was extremely surprised at how much I enjoyed this. ❤️
My favorite character is kitty cause she’s the main character and yeah. What surprised me most is that the dog was so nice and made her the present she wanted with all the other stuff. I would change the ending to where the thing the dog made was perfect and kitty was happy and got what she wanted.

I read this entire book to my 6-year old son at bedtime tonight. Overall it had some of the same fun elements as other Bad Kitty stories, but overall it was not my favourite one that I've read to him. However, as a whole, I have enjoyed quite a few of these books, and am glad I can share my love of reading with my son, as well as my 2-year old daughter as well!
Super cute and silly. Fast read (I’m a slow reader and could finish it in less than an hour in one sitting; reading it as the kids’ bedtime story, we finished in 3 nights). Enjoyable for kids and parents. I actually learned a few things about cats. :) My girls are about-to-be 6 y/o and 7 y/o and they love kitties, kittens and cats. :) Also, this book came in a book set as a gift to my younger daughter and at the end of the book, there’s an excerpt of the next book, which got my older daughter super excited to read the next one.
Even though this book was easy for me too read I still enjoyed it yeah I read little kids stuff because its interesting to see what little kids learn about even though we passed through this already but maybe we remember maybe we don't well I don't remember anything about yourself when you were little for example me when I was little I really don't remember anything when I was little . This book is about this cat that is really bad in the begging the cat
This one of many books written about "Bad Kitty" and her life. In this book Kitty and her friends are celebrating her birthday, in the book goes through what typically goes into a birthday party. Something that I love about this book is that throughout the book they put in real facts about cats to educate the children reading it to get more interesting information about cats. Along with these facts, the drawling in this book are adorable.
It's been a year since Kitty arrived from the animal shelter, and a party is planned for her, but will kitty stop sleeping long enough to enjoy the festivities, and all of her neighborhood friends, and the gifts they gave her? Speaking of the gifts, someone has stolen them all, and Kitty is determined to find out who is the culprit. Uncle Murray provides some fun facts, and all the different breed of cat that attended the party is described in the appendix.
