I loved Standing Strong by Alli Worthington. Her powerful words grabbed ahold of me and didn’t let go until long after I finished reading it. She shares her good, bad, ugly, and the transformation that evolved through her trust in God, faithful obedience, and hard work. I felt like I was being ministered to, not from the pulpit, but from a kind, caring friend over coffee. And this friend tells me she doesn’t want me to miss out on God’s best for me and His kingdom. She further explains, in the most loving and rock your world ways, that we no longer need to hide in the shadows and we need to step out and embrace the calling the Lord has placed on our hearts, that we are indeed, great women of God.
Standing Strong is for the woman who wants to move past being “enough”. It’s about claiming and embracing all God has called us to, without shame and self-doubt, and stepping into all He has created us to be and to see our worth in the eyes of Jesus. It’s a battle cry to all women who’ve been made to feel they need to stay small or invisible to a more-than-enough life with God. Alli Worthington discusses our inner shame, the voices we listen to, the power of prayer, obedience, authenticity, comfort zones, blessings, community, the giants we face and battle, what scares us, and how to overcome them with God’s strength. She also provides actionable steps, insights, prayers, and food for thought at the end of each chapter.
I love Alli Worthington’s faith-filled spirit, her passion, genuine authenticity, and the bravery in baring her soul to hold the door open to all her sister’s in Christ. I love her no-nonsense approach in the writing of this book. The messages in Standing Strong can’t be whispered but told with a voice that wakes you up to the powerful truths within. She speaks with urgency and backs up the truths with Scripture and biblical history. I was armed with my journal and pen as I made copious notes and said “amen” and “yes” as chapter after chapter spoke directly to my soul and present circumstances. I felt like Alli Worthington was cheering me on with excited encouragement as I read along.
I think this quote by Alli Worthington sums up the book well; “To live into the woman God made you to be, you have to believe what God has said about you. And to accomplish what God has called you to do, you have to follow his lead-and never turn back.”
After reading Standing Strong I feel encouraged, understood, hopeful, excited, and prayerful towards what God has for me next. Not only am I ready to take the first shaky steps but I feel equipped for the work God prepared me for from the beginning. Her words struck home again and again in the most eye-opening, soul-shaking, much-needed ways. It was like your best friend lovingly telling you that you need to pull off the blanket and take one step, and then the next because God has called you to do this and He has prepared you, equipped you, and gifted you with ways to bring glory to Him.
They say an author can’t possibly write a book for everyone but I think Standing Strong is an exception to this rule. I say every woman needs to read this book, it is a game-changer and life-changer all wrapped into one. It’s the lifeline and wakeup call you didn’t know you needed. I loved the beautiful journey Standing Strong took me on and I know I’ll be reading it again and again. I’m grateful to Alli Worthington for sharing her beautiful story so other women believe they can share theirs in whatever form God calls them to.
Alli Worthington’s latest book “Standing Strong: A Woman’s Guide to Overcoming Adversity and Living in Confidence” offers great encouragement and reminders pointing us to see who we are as women, and Whose we are as women in Christ. Using examples of her own story plus sharing snippets from others she encourages us to stand strong and not give into or pick ourselves up from a defeatist mindset where we think lowly of ourselves. She does this with her own words and weaves examples of people from the Bible and Scripture throughout the book.
Every chapter ends with 3-5 takeaway points that Alli specifically wants us to remember. Though there are plenty of others that you could claim as your own takeaways.
Also at the end of every chapter are three questions for discussion or self examination and three action steps consisting of a point for prayer, a journaling prompt and then a specific ‘action’ to do.
I will be going back through this book with a highlighter and sticky notes. Looking forward to gathering a few others and going through this book and adding the companion Bible study.
Honestly, this book was over way before I wanted it to be! I’m so thankful Alli shared this message because women EVERYWHERE need to hear it! Great read!
