A locals' treasure map to the secret spots favored by true New Yorkers.
The "must-visit, must-see" travel list given to you by the New Yorker friend you wish you had. Vibrantly illustrated throughout, this practical guide transports readers to discover an insider's view of the Big Apple. The vivid watercolors illustrate destinations of the architectural marvels, cultural hubs, food and drink spots, and music venues that make New York so exciting. Cultural musings, accessible histories, anecdotes, and informative details accompany the illustrations throughout, making this volume as practical as it is beautiful.
The book features eleven curated neighborhood destination walks--guiding the reader through the energetic New York streets, passing restaurants and coffee shops, historical sights, museums and galleries, parks, and the kind of authentic and timeless sites that one hopes to find when imagining the city. Interwoven throughout are insider guides on how to eat like a New Yorker; explore the city's most beautiful parks and gardens; navigate transit via ferry, subway, and bike; visit some of NYC's most iconic TV and film locations.
A set of roughly 2-4 hour walks along parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, with paths that I might never have guessed. A very useful walking guide, well thought-out. Some places I didn't need it's suggestions (Chelsea and the High Line was pretty obvious) and other walks (the Brooklyn Riveria, and the walk across Roosevelt Island) would never have occurred to me. I recommend it to anyone who, like me, thinks that city must be explored on foot, and in doses of several hours at time.
I love these “In Stride” guides. While NYC isn’t quite as good as the previous Paris guide, there’s still lots to like here. I’ve become really interested in travel guides that have a very specific point of view instead of being broadly general. This definitely fits the bill. It’s a little too basic hipster at times, but I find the suggested walks to be good starting points for exploring a neighborhood. Folks can easily find other places that fit their own interests along the way.
I'm enjoying using this book (as a gift) more as a reference guide than a cover-to-cover read. I've been to a few of these places and hope to visit more in the future.
Such a cute and helpful little guide! In preparation for an upcoming NYC trip, I've been poring over online travel guides and videos. By no means is this a comprehensive guide to visiting NYC, However, it offers ideas, history bits, and more I had not come across in previous research. Definitely double check all spots that catch your eye (especially any food spots), as not all the places featured are still operating.
This is a lovely guide to all of the most iconic spots in NYC and i highly recommend it for anyone that wants to explore NYC.
I’m glad the authors only include timeless spots instead of including places that may not be open in a couple of years. I will definitely use this to plan some of my weekends going forward.
Excellent walking tour suggestions with detailed information about places of interest along the way, but not the major tourist attractions. Lots of fun, new information as well as lovely illustrations.
These are wonderful guides for people who are looking to travel as well as those that remain arm chair travelers. Watercolor artwork is enchanting. More please!! How about one on London?
