We've already read this 6 times and it's 6:55am. My 2 year old loves it. Super cute book. He likes when I do funny voices while reading. Great book for toddlers.
Every child (and parent) inevitably must meet (and endure) Elmo. Sesame Street's most egregious cash-grab character is a cultural staple no one gets around. Rowan has seen a few episodes of Elmo's World (the ball episode is his favorite and, I think, the best), but this is Rowan's first Elmo book.
It's not a bad book. It's not an especially wonderful one either, though not bad either. Very functional, and fine in its basic subjects and flow. It sacrifices imagination for accessibility, while still being enjoyably pleasant. It's nice to have a break to just look at and read Elmo rather than hear him.
However, I can't help feeling like the book's primary function is as an advert for the show, and for parents who don't know what book they actually want their kids reading. It's the "I just want something I can ignore" kind of book. The book you buy for someone else when you don't really know what the kid specifically enjoys--EVERYone loves Elmo, right? That's my crusty take anyway.
On the upside, sometimes you don't have the time to find new books, and that's a legitimate issue for many folks. And issue Sesame Street has laudably addressed throughout its history, with varying but overall positive success. And in that sense, this is low-stakes goodness that keeps you going, doesn't hurt, but doesn't especially edify either. Some good filler to pad out reading time. Every child and parent needs a little of that.
This was a cute book that my Sesame Street-obsessed son got for Christmas! He loves this book. His older sister enjoys it, too, but she’s getting a little bit too old for these kinds of books.
This book had short sentences, and cute facts about our favorite member of Sesame Street, Elmo! I will definitely be reading this many more times for my kiddos. This book is great for younger kids.
My toddler made me read this three times in a row when we picked this up from the library, so I'm interpreting that as her giving this book a five star review.
I have read this book approximately 500,000 times to my 20 month old. It's his favorite! It's a cute little book, and I purchased the accompanying Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Oscar books as well.
My Elmo-obsessed baby was captivated by the high-resolution photographs in this book. I really loved how easy the text was to follow for the intended age group.
I noticed the other Sesame Street Friends installments point out the characters’ imperfections. “Sometimes Abby makes mistakes.” “Bert and Ernie don’t agree on everything.” But no such comments for Elmo. Maybe that’s okay since it’s Elmo (see prior comment about him being the 🐐). But I definitely noticed the discrepancy.
This book series is so sweet! A dear friend bought us the elmo book and somehow we have ALL of them now. Between Elmo and the Count, we read those two easily 100 times each and then needed to have a few other books in the rotation.
The elmo book has it all, it is clear he is a main character! I recommend buying this book for littles for sure.
This story is in board book format and brightly illustrated. In less than 50 words, the child reader gets to meet Elmo of Sesame Street as Elmo takes the reader through different things he likes to do, and to meet the people he knows. Fun story for little ones.
This is one of Heather's favorites. It's my go-to book to carry in the diaper bag if I know we will be out for a long time and will need something to do. It's rather simple, only a few words per page, but somehow very intriguing for a baby.
