Και στον "ΗΛΙΘΙΟ", όπως σε όλα τα έργα του μεγάλου συγγραφέα, η εσωτερική αρμονία είναι διάχυτη και σέρνει αβίαστα τον αναγνώστη στο χορό των ηθικών αξιών, ανώτερων ή κατώτερων, υποχρεώνοντας τον σε όλη τη διάρκεια του έργου να βλέπει τον αντίποδα του ψεύτικου κοινωνικού του εγώ και να βρίσκεται συνεχώς μέσα στο κύκλωμα της αυτοκριτικής και του αυτοέλεγχου.
