"It was a beautiful little one-bite story. The simmering tension of their years-long, seemingly unrequited crushes had me breathless. Their love shimmers off the pages!”—USA Today Bestselling Author, Christi Barth
When what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas…
Former Las Vegas showgirl Nicki Hollister has a new job, a new home, and a new life. What she doesn’t have is a new man—and she has no interest in finding one. After a whirlwind affair turned disastrous ten years before, she left happily-ever-afters in the desert dust and never looked back. But when the man who left her high and dry in Sin City suddenly appears in Santa Christa, she finds herself remembering the ways he touched her heart before he broke it and she can’t turn away.
British billionaire mogul Simon Grenville has an almost royal pedigree and the enticing accent to match. When his future is threatened by a quickie marriage that should have been over a decade ago, he’s determined to confront the woman who betrayed him. Except he soon finds out everything wasn’t quite as it seemed. And now the only person who can put his life back on track is the one woman he was never supposed to have.
A big believer in happily ever afters, Jen Doyle decided it was high time she started creating some. Jen is a member of the Romance Writers of America, as well as a member of the New England Chapter, New Jersey Romance Writers and Music City Romance Writer chapters of RWA. She is represented by Sarah E. Younger of the Nancy Yost Literary Agency.
She has an M.S. in Library and Information Science and, in addition to her work as a librarian, has worked as a conference and events planner as well as a Communications and Enrollment administrator in both preschool and higher education environments (although some might say that there is very little difference between the two; Jen has no comment regarding whether she is one of the "some").
Her first book, CALLING IT, was published by Carina Press in April 2016. It was the winner of The Beacon, the Finish the Damn Book, and the Melody of Love 2014 contests in the Contemporary Romance category, and was also the Contemporary Romance winner as well as the Grand Prize Winner of the 2014 Gateway to the Best contest. Book #2, CALLED UP, will be published on August 29, 2016.
This book contains both sex and cursing (including f-bombs), so if those things will cause you to leave a bad review, then you should skip this one, but you'll be missing a heck of a book. And although this is a “Kindle Worlds” release, you do not have to have read the original books to appreciate this story. If you have a prior knowledge of the St. Helena books it will make a few cameos more special, but if you don't, it really isn't required to enjoy this one.
First of all, this cover is one of my favorites ever in the SHVKW releases. It is gorgeous and fits this story incredibly well. I absolutely love it.
This is not your typical love story, and it isn't your typical second chance romance, but it is a beautiful, original example of both of those things. I wasn't sure what to expect when I went into this story – a Vegas showgirl and an uber rich British guy falling in love? To be honest, it was really hard for me to picture at first. Yeah, that was until they get on a page together sparks and cartoon hearts start flying like crazy. Those two were perfect for each other in a way that I never expected.
Ms. Doyle has a real knack for writing perfectly plotted out and executed novellas and the pace of this one was spot on. Never once did anything feel rushed or cobbled together quickly, something that often happens in books of this length, this story was fleshed out exactly as if it were a full-length novel.
I highly recommend this story to anyone who knows and loves the original St. Helena Vineyard books (yes, there are cameos by some of the usual St. Helena suspects) but also to anyone who enjoys a really sweet, really well-written love story.
A British billionaire and a Vegas showgirl. Doesn't sound like a couple that will make it work right? Wrong! Nicki and Simon fell in love on less than 2 weeks in Vegas and then it was taken just as quickly. For 9 years, they blamed each other and wondered where it all went wrong. Every relationship from then on would suffer. Neither wanted to feel heartbreak again and pushed people away. Maybe 9 years apart would finally be enough time to let them heal. Well, fate had other plans for them.
Simon travels to St. Helena for "business". Nicki and Simon meet face to face and struggle with their emotions. Was it ever really love?
They go through more ups and downs finding their way back to each other. It was passionate, heartwarming, and reminded me to fight for what you want. I highly recommend this book to those who love a HEA with a slow burn.
Another trip back to St. Helena and another wonderful novella! Simon and Nicki were briefly married nine years ago when he abruptly left and she quickly signed annulment papers. Now, with legal problems looming, Simon tracks his ex wife down, only to discover he had no clue what happened all those years ago.
Nicki is now one of my favorites! Las Vegas dancer turned marketing guru, she's smart, sassy and completely vulnerable. I loved how they really got to know each other after all this time. And there was a villain you can help but love to hate! Another great St.Helena addition!!
I love Jen Doyle's books and this one didn't disappoint. It's a second chance story about two people who fell in love under unusual circumstances, married, then were parted through misdirection and lies. It takes place nine years after when it's discovered their annulment may not have been legal and the hero tracks down the heroine to get it resolved. But both are stronger now, all grown up, and masters of their own fate. When they both gradually learn how they'd been manipulated, they let their hearts decide if they can change the past and have a future together.
Blush: I Loved Loved Loved this book! I loved how it was written and the strong tough characters and the strong woman. I liked that Nikki reconnected with her college buddy Tanner with a job and support team. St. Helena is a great environment for all the characters and reconnects lovers or new one. Simon and Nikki's love is on fire and they are perfect for each other. I loved how Jen Doyle chose to write it. It was fantastic.
Nicki married Simon 9 years ago and signed papers a month after her wedding...Simon finds that the paperwork didn't gappen..he goes to get it signed but finds that he and Nicki still have that chemistry. When Simons mom tries to threaten Simon and Nicki..Simon won't let go..
