The Bennet family changed dramatically when Mr Bennet nearly lost his life. The rekindled love between him and his wife encouraged a unifying bond amongst their five daughters. Their story unfolds as each eligible young lady walks down the aisle, taking her husband’s hand and forever leaving the name of Bennet behind.
Jonathan Lucas was not one to give much thought to distractions, especially of the female persuasion, but since returning from his grand tour there was one distraction he could not disregard. Katherine Bennet was no longer the child he had played with and rescued from her tormentors. She was no longer the gangly teenager he had shared many an afternoon with across the game board. She was now a woman, and a distracting one at that. Mr Bennet had insisted he keep his distance until she was out, and he had. An unexpected invitation to Bath would take her from him just when he had hoped to further their friendship. Would someone else steal the heart of his love before he had the opportunity to pay court to her and win her affection in return?
Leaving Bennet Behind (book series) Reviewed in Canada on February 25, 2020 Simple writing style, but not unpleasant. This is a very good story of each Bennet sister finding their true love and leaving home. With an interesting, but very drawn out sub-plot, so far there are four books, each of which ends with a “to be continued” at the end. This is not my favourite book format. It leaves me wanting after each book, and after having read four of them with still no ending, it is frustrating to say the least. The character portrayals are nothing like canon’s portrayals. As another reviewer said, “who are these people”? That is not to say I don’t like them. This is definitely a “clean, sweet” variation.
I was delighted when Ms. Johnson released the fourth book in her "Leaving Bennet Behind" series, for this is Kitty's story. I'm not sure why, but Kitty Bennet, is one of my favourite secondary characters in Pride & Prejudice to see developed further and Mary would be second. Maybe because she always plays second fiddle to her younger sister, Lydia, or the lack of attention she receives from the rest of her family.
I strongly recommend you start with the first book, for there is a continuous plot line running through each of the novels that impacts all of them.
Kitty Bennet and Jonathan Lucas have been childhood friends. There has always been a special bond between them. But when Jonathan returns from his Grand Tour, he finds Katherine (Kitty) is no longer a young girl but a young woman. However, Mr. Bennet has asked him to wait before approaching Katherine until her 18th birthday and her come out. He does, but worries someone else may steal her heart.
"The lingering touches of the dance steps continued to bring them together and then pull apart once more, like a game piece in the hands of a master." (quote from the book)
I enjoyed seeing these two characters and their relationship grow. There were doubts on both sides but overall very little angst. Anne de Bourgh gets her chance at happiness while Lady Catherine's plot starts unraveling. Now to find out what happens with Lydia! Her growth has certainly been happening over all four of the previous books.
I especially enjoyed the romantic interactions between the couples. Jonathan Lucas is a very special and sweet character and the perfect partner for this Kitty. Interesting drama in the background.
Another good story as the saga, Leaving Bennet behind continues. This was mainly Kitty and Jonathan Lucas’s story, but much happened with all the background stories that started in Book 1. Colonel Fitzwilliam’s investigation into the killing of his two officers has been closed. William Collins was not really Collins, but the killer the colonel was trying to find. Elizabeth has birthed the Darcys’ first child. Lady Catherine has died due to her own evil desires to bend her will upon everyone around her. Caroline Bingley has once again been sent to live with her aunt, because she just can’t seem to keep her thoughts and emotions to herself, and Bingley finally has had enough. At the end of this book, the families have all moved to Pemberley until Kitty’s wedding. Ready to read Book 5 the last of the series. There are still loose ends to be solved.
The fourth book in the “Leaving Bennet Behind” focuses on Kitty’s feelings for her longtime friend, Jonathan Lucas. Throughout their romantic storyline, the other Bennet sisters’ stories are intertwined. Both Liszt and Jane are expecting, and Mary has just recently married. There are also villains of whom the reader will certainly know and recognize. The mystery of George Wickham continues in this story as well. The tale will continue in the fifth volume.
This was amazing. Lady Catherine is just evil. That G.W. character is evil too. What will become of Younge and Wickham? Enjoying how well Mr and Mrs Bennet get along. Mrs Bennet nerves are rarely there. Darcy and Elizabeth are great together. Charlotte and Ash are awesome. Love how Alex and Mary calm each other. Lucas and Kitty, what a marriage. This is cliffhanger , but hopefully next will be out soon.
I enjoyed reading about Kittie's journey to love with John Lucas. Lady Catherine met a surprising demise, and Wickham is still on the lose. His twin brother Gregory, killed Mr. Collins in the previous book at Lady Catherine 's insistence. She is the cause of Georgina 's being in a wheelchair. I am curious concerning how much everyone knows about Lady Catherine 's involvement in everyone 's life. Mr. a Mrs. Bennet are the best parents in this novel, and Lydia is well behaved with the exception of one incident regarding Kittie and John Lucas. Caroline tears her ugjy, and she vows vengeance on Bingley because he longer tolerates her nonsense.I read this book in one afternoon, definitely a page turner.
I was waiting for the next book in the this series for a long time. In my opinion, Lady Catherine and her lackey got what they deserved. Having Anne Dr Bourgh got to marry the man she loves and Kitty Bennett marrying the man she has been in love with for years. And Elizabeth having her baby. Can't wait for the next book.
