Dr. Phillips has hosted registered nurses from as far away as Washington State for specialized nursing courses. She mentors many nurses in the community as they seek advanced degrees in nursing. Fledgling educators always have an opportunity to present classes and learn to teach in her department under her direction. Many of her graduates in nursing and surgical technology have returned to work for her. Over 25% of her surgical technology students return to college for professional nursing degrees within 3 years of graduation from the surgical technology program. Registered nurses who have completed her programs have gone on to attain advanced degrees as educators and nurse practitioners.

Dr. Phillips has been a perioperative nurse since 1975. She began her career as an LPN in the OR and attained her RN from Lakeland Community College in 1981.
