Journey to a world where the Nobles aren't famous: they're infamous! Frost and Liz meet twisted versions of the world's favorite heroes when they enter a parallel dimension. Frost is on the trail of his father, and Liz is hoping to be reunited with Race, but neither is prepared for what they find!
I almost gave this volume a fourth star, but the resolutions of the parallel universe story struck me as too awkward. The explanation that the story was under threat of cancellation was interesting, but there was no in-story explanation for Frost being able to re-route the gadget in that way, and it was clearly done just to provide the fans with a "happy ending" to one of the story lines. i'd rather have a good-but-not-happy story than a mediocre happy story, but maybe that's just me. Still, I'm not sorry that I've read this far. I just don't know if I will go out of my way to pick up the later volumes.
Full disclosure - I read the single issues for this and not the volume itself. So some of these criticisms may not apply to the volume release.
Felt simultaneously like a lot happened while not a lot happened. Alternate dimension arc's resolution is pretty rough, very much not a fan of it, not sure how it even works in-universe. There's stuff I like - Cosmic Rae is neat, the reveals about Frost's parentage and the whole tragedy around that isn't half bad. Zephyr and Krennick - lol
The switch to black and white art also bothered me, which obviously we know happened due to the poor sales, but it's still a bummer to lose.
This series doesn't hold my interest S much as dy amo 5 did but this volume featured my fave characters Frost and Kennick. They also gave Liz a reason to still be around.
