The Noble family is again plagued by scandal when their friend, Krennick, is suspected of murdering a prostitute who was found dressed up like Zephyr Noble. Meanwhile, half-brothers Rusty and Frost find themselves forced to team up on a mission to outer space, and Gaia begins to notice startling changes in her husband, Doc.
This might be the best in the series so far. They dial up the drama, and we get more hero action than normal. Still not a ton of action, but more.
While the other books have really inficised that the cast is messed up, awful people. This one puts them in some really messed up stuff and in doing so really humanized them. They are not extraordinarily bad p eople they are not particularly selfish or evil. They are actually very ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances with exceptional gifts that change their dynamic.
I think this is the point where it went from a string of miniseries to an on going book, but I'm not sure and too lazy too look it up. I kind of feel like I missed something. I think I know what happened, but I'm not totally sure and I'm just going to roll with it. Just like ther turned one of there characters black, and it didn't bother me even a little. I kind of saw it as recasting the role with a new actress. It did help it a somewhat minor character (that is likely to become more important) that was introduced latter in the last book.
If you are into the drama of the lives of superheroes this series is kind of a must read.
Another enjoyable entry in the Noble Causes series. I think I preferred the art before they reworked the series partway through volume 3, and it's more super-hero-soap-opera-y than ever, but fun if you like that sort of thing. Which I do.
