Extremely thorough exploration of a demographic group I am yet to see depicted well in literature and covers colonial ground with a broad but exacting sweep. Learnt lots of Scottish history and was fantastic to hear from someone who actually grew up in Glasgow, if anything more of his personal perspective would have enhanced the text
