I don’t like to give one star reviews without reason. Many points in this book are honest, true perspectives on relationships. However, towards the end the author describes the role of the wife in relation to her husband pertaining to sex. He had previously advocated that as single, unmarried adults our sexuality was subject to God and his ability to help us control those urges. Then within the marital context sex becomes a ‘need’ and not just a ‘want.’ I do believe intimacy is a need in a marital relationship, but the author proceeds to tell women that even if they don’t feel up to it, it is their duty so their husband doesn’t go looking for it somewhere else. Shifting the blame for infidelity to a woman and advocating for a less than honest consensual sexual relationship is where he lost me. Where did that same control and belief in God’s ability to harness our desires go that was promised as a single adult? I’m not advocating for either party to withhold sex or use it as a weapon, but arguing that a woman’s duty is to serve her husband’s every sexual need with no regard for her own emotional or physical needs was crass and unbiblical.

This book had so many nuggets of wisdom.
Here are some of my favorites:
1. Embrace the season you’re in, thank God for it, and make the most of it.
2. The more you understand about yourself, the easier it is to have mature relationships with your parents or siblings. The more comfortable you are with you, the more people will be attracted to your authenticity and confidence. The more secure you are about your gifts, talents, and calling, the less you’ll feel you have to prove.
3. To be whole for a relationship, you first need to find yourself in God.
4. Singleness is the time for “I”: invest, imagine and inspire. Invest in what you want to see grow in your life. Imagine what you could be tomorrow if you’re started today. And inspire others by using everything you have now to make a difference.
5. Dating is transportation to a relational target.
6. If he’s not mateable, he’s not dateable.
7. When you’re committed to each other for life, you will discover a fuller kind of love.
8. Work on your singleness and date throughout your marriage.
9. The longer you’re with somebody, the more intentional you have to be with affection.
10. God wants us to become ONE: Ownership, Nurture and Evolve.

Read this book at such perfect timing. I definitely recommend it for anyone seeking purposeful relationships especially intimidate ones and I think that should not exclude anyone! There were some points mentioned in the book that really stood out to me and made a lot of sense. I had an epiphany! I’ve been viewing relationships all wrong, even the idea of marriage. Just like God builds upon our strengths ...undoing the wrong way to view relationships and replacing it with a Godly way requires a strong foundation then allowing principles that God wants us to have in relationships built upon! I recommend this book to anyone wanting to try to approach relationships the way God intended versus what you think is the right way based on what society and the word shows you because that way never turned out to be fulfilling in any way! I think this book was definitely preparation for the next season of my life! I’m excited!

Love how practical the advice in the book is, I think the revelations on the need for a better look at our individual relationship with God, and how God guides us as individuals feeds into better relationships with people especially in committed relationships.
