He Sat Down (So You Can Too): How to Receive the Peace of Jesus in a World that Stands

Rate this book
From Amazon #1 Best-Selling Author Wes Raley comes a powerful new book about how to have the peace of God in a world of striving, stress, and anxious toil.

"But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God" (Hebrews 10:12 ESV).

We know that Jesus came to give us an abundant life (John 10:10). Yet many of us would frequently describe our lives with words such as busy, stressed, anxious, or even overwhelmed. Despite how much we dislike the weight of such a frantic existence, we often carry on living with a gap between our experience and the fullness of life we know that Jesus has to offer. But it doesn't have to be this way.

God has given us a blueprint in His Word so powerful that if fully embraced, it will effortlessly transport us into the abundant life that Jesus died to give us. We must finally come to grips with the fact that even though our culture may desire us to live fast-paced, ragged lives, God does not. God does not want us to be exhausted, burned out, or at the end of our ropes. His Way always leads us to the fruit of the Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). And while those qualities can only be born in us by His Spirit, they are also indicators of the kind of experience we should be having if we have fully embraced all that is available to us through Christ.

Hebrews 10:12 makes it clear that the position of victory is seated. Seated in our identity in Christ. Seated in all that He has accomplished. Seated in His perfect sovereignty and plan for our lives. Seated in His love. The confidence and peace that comes from being seated with Christ is the breakthrough you long for in your soul. Any sense of dissatisfaction or lack is cast away and then filled up by the fullness of Christ when we remain seated in Him.

Scripture makes it clear that as believers we are already seated with Christ in the heavenly realms - and that is a work of God (Ephesians 2:6). But is our job to stay seated. We must allow that heavenly reality to become our earthly one. Just as Jesus prayed that God's will would be done "on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10), may we allow the heavenly reality of our seated position to be our earthly one - staying seated in our hearts even in a world that daily stands and strives for the fruit that could only come from a life of trusting and resting in Him alone.

Through the clear Biblical passages and teachings in this book you will:

•Find peace in the total acceptance of God.

•Be set free from the rat race of performance, striving, stress, and dissatisfaction of the world.

•Learn to value, prefer, and prioritize the praise of God over the praise of men.

•Live with the confidence that comes from being secure in your identity as a son or daughter of God.

•Feel what it is like to live with the peace of God available to you at all times.

•Study the Biblical passages that unlock the truth of abiding and resting in Christ.

•Learn the practical implications of your spiritual position in Christ.

Not much for a book, but it makes a pretty good mantra for meditating.

Basically, you take the title of the book and say it over and over again. Throw in a bunch of cherry picked scriptures, and a few anecdotes, rinse and repeat.

I picked this up on a whim because it showed up on my recommended in my Scribe account. I started passively listening to it because I've been thinking a lot about what peace and abiding really looks like. I ended up having to go get the ebook version to finish it once I hit half-way through because I was so deeply encouraged by the truths Wes shares that I wanted to read it for myself.

This book came at a precipice in my faith life. Questioning, doubting, wringing my hands, avoiding the Lord and trying to twist His arm metaphorically all at once. Wes reminded me in the midst of my storm that I have a seated position at the right hand of the Father because of Christ. It's already, but not just yet for this physical body. Because of this, I don't have to drive my brain into the ground trying to figure out where I went wrong, or try to tear out every piece of my spirit for proof that I'm doing alright. Christ already purchased this blessed assurance. Instead of the next wrung of my faith journey looking like a mountain I'm desperate to find a ladder to climb, Wes pointed me to the bed of glory I need only fall back into.

I'm so thankful for this book and will be recommending it for years to come.

A Much Needed Word For Our Lives!

I’ve known about the Bible verse that says we are seated in Heaven with Christ for many years. But, I never realized the power and peace that comes from knowing I need to remain seated to keep God’s peace in my life!!!

God bless you, Wes, for being His faithful servant in bringing this much needed word from Heaven to earth! You are truly God’s vessel!

Fantastic book!

This book is exactly what I needed at this time in my life. To just “be seated” is foreign to me, but the author portrays so many scriptural reasons to be seated, how can I not? This book is truly a gift for those of us who struggle with “being seated” with Christ.

A good word

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the pursuit of godliness, we forget to take the time to rest and recognize our privileged position as children of God! Helped me to realize my benefits as God's child!

He Sat Down points us to the place of contentment and rest. It is not found in activity or work, but in trusting Christ and his finished work. At his feet is the place of rest.

Good

Presents the important facts well. Gives good examples. Is a great starting point if you haven't been living the life Jesus died to live through you. Must admit I struggle a bit with the different Bible versions in the scriptures quoted. Apart from that, I would recommend it as a starting point if you are seeking to live in peace in Christ.
