Possession is the third book in the Stone Creek University series. This is the first book I have read by the author Lainey Davis so I was not sure what to expect. But I thought the book description of the story between Baxter and Olive could be an easy and hopefully steamy novella. Well I am not sure what to say except that I am not really sure that I understood the story. The premise is friends to lovers but the way the author went about it just did not work at all for me. I thought the premise of the story was good but it just did not live up to my expectation at all.
3rd book in the Stone Creek University Series Bax and Olive were childhood friends. They were always there for each other and when they got into college they finally let go of the worry that they would mess up their friendship if they went into the more then friendship area. Finally not able to hold back any longer they gave into their feelings and finally were able to Get the HEA they both wanted.
Literally the worst narration I've ever heard. Frankly, it'd be a more pleasant experience listening to a '90's Microsoft computer read this to me.
Cringy audio aside... this story is majorly lacking. It's not "about" anything. There's absolutely no plot, no character development, and no climax. The smexxy scenes seem to have been written by someone who is either a.) a 12 year old boy, or b.) an inexperienced goody-two-shoes who's trying so hard to sound "dirty" and scandalous.
This is a fun, emotional, entertaining read. Baxter and Olive are interesting, intriguing, entertaining, relatable, captivating characters. I enjoyed them as individuals and as a couple. These two are good together and the path of their romance is very fitting. The sports part of the story was fun to read and added just that little bit more to my enjoyment. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment.
I enjoyed the audio version of this story and the narrator.
The first Book in this series left me disappointed with the second book a little better, but in both books the hero’s POV was missing, which would have added the needed depth. Book 3, Possession, Lainey Davis hit it out of the park. She gave us both the hero’s and heroine’s POVs and it was an unbelievable read. Read it in one seating. I highly recommend this book!
Olive saved herself , breaking away from an unhappy childhood. Her best friend in the world, Baxter, is all she has, her only family that’s left. How can she want more? How can she risk the only person she can depend on? How can she ignore the way he makes her feel…or her dreams. Would they survive being more than friends?
This was definitely my favorite of the series. I love a good childhood friends to lovers story and this fit my need perfectly. Bax and Olive were so good together. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.
Virgin/manwhore trope is my least favorite. Setting feminism back 60 years - 2 stars for this alone. I just can't enjoy the characters with that much inequality
The story was ok until the banquet and then I really disliked how fast they got together and I love you and instasex -
I didn't connect at all to this story. The dynamic between Bax and Olive was not believable. The chemistry just wasn't present. They barely interacted with each other.
I listened to this as an audiobook and frankly I didn’t love the narrator which drive me crazy. I think I would have liked this better if I read it myself. I would give this a 3.5…
Okay this starts out well, but half the good stuff happens off page and is summarized, the three sex scenes seem almost like a need to fill a quota and are shoved into the last three chapters, seem pointless and are awkwardly written and the story skips most of their actual relationship.
First let's talk Justin, the stuff that happens with him on the pages isn't a fireable offense. She never told him he was making her uncomfortable at the bar or asked him to stop and he didn't actually do much besides an arm around her shoulders. So it's not sexual harassment because he didn't really touch her inappropriately and she never told him what touches he did make made her uncomfortable or asked him not to. If she'd said can you not do that and he continued or if he'd touched somewhere personal it would have definitely crossed a line but that's not what happens in the scene. And after Baxter confronts him he doesn't continue even to pursue her. Baring a university policy prohibiting fraternization it doesn't make him a bad guy to be interested. The moving people around was childish, but he didn't ask her out and she didn't shoot him down so can it really be said that she was moved because of a refusal to put out? His grabbing her arm was out of line but again she never reported it. So from what's actually written on the page, the guys a bit of a dick and somewhat childish but nothing he ought to be fired for. Yeah I get that I'm defending the bad guy, but Davis never actually writes any of the scenes that would officially cross the line into the charges she's hinting he received. She wants to make the boss a sleaze who sexual harasses students or uses his position to get laid then she actually needs to write scenes where he clearly does that and none of those are in the book. And that's not me being someone who's not all about fairness in the workplace because I am one of the first people who will throw a fit if I think what happened to a character was sexist. The scenes that would support her accusations just aren't in the book and that's an issue.
The lead characters actually aren't in a ton of scenes together prior to their sudden relationship. Most of the scenes are the two of them talking to other people about each other and they finally hookup after she goes on a date with someone else and dresses up, like her not wearing sexy clothes or makeup are what has kept him in check all this time. Yeah no, because that makes it sound like she's not worth taking a risk on unless she wears certain clothes and isn't pretty enough to be tempting without make up so yeah not cool.
The whole Tim subplot is just summarized off page and doesn't provide shit in real scenes that would have benefited the plot through actual drama.
And the chapter where they finally hook up is basically followd by a six months later chapter so all that angst about how he might screw it up and it wasn't worth the risk and we don't even get to see the parts where he's all nervous about moving from friends to lovers.
Everything that's supposed to be important in a romance novel is summarized and skipped in this story. It's like she wrote a couple of good chapters, got bored and just decided to start summarizing to get it done. Not worth it.
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.

Olive has been in love with her best friend Baxter for a long time. They have been inseparable since they were young and they are each other’s world. They ground each other in times of stress and they are always there for each other.
Baxter warns all boys away from Olive to protect her from getting hurt. Olive is studying kinesiology and works closely with the football team. But her boss takes it personally when Baxter warns him away from Olive. To spite them and keep them apart, he switches Olives roster to caring for the swim team.
They develop friendships with other teammates and feelings are strengthening. Baxter and Olive can no longer deny their love for each other and finally get together.
I loved reading this book and couldn’t put it down till the end. I loved the characters and the flow of the story.

Olive and Baxter have been best friends their whole lives. It's why she can't ever tell him she's in love with him. But is there a chance Bax might feel the same way about her?
Friends to lovers is always a treat to read, if it's done right the way it is here. I loved Olive and Bax together. Their friendship was rock solid, so the more physical and romantic aspects that grew from the friendship felt real and natural. And oh so sexy!
SWEET STEAMY POSSESSION! This was a great read that pulled me in with ease tugging at my heartstrings from the start and never letting up until the sweet ending that made it all worth while. I love the spin with Kev and Tim as well as the love and passion and protective-ness that Olive and Baxter had for each other that I was so hard into reading it that I'm definitely gonna have to check it out again. An amazing read with great dialogue, steamy passionate chemistry, edgy twists and incredibly moving.
Loved this story. It pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you there till the very last word. I couldn't put it down. The story was well written, it takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions full of twists, turns, romance, jealousy, family and amazing chemistry between Bax and Olive. These two are in love with one another but don't want to loose each other or will they? You will not put this one down. A must read.

Baxter and Olive have been best friends since they were kids. The are the only family either of them have left. They can’t possibly become more than friends and possibly lose the only family they have, or can they???
As with all of her books, Lainey Davis added doses of comedy, drama, romance, and a whole lotta steam. I always love a good “friends to lovers” romance, and this one did not disappoint. Great short read.
