Xavier This is not a love story. I hate you not for who you are, but what you represent. I’m the whispers in the darkness you can’t quite hear. I’m the unease that can’t be explained, but won’t go away. I’m your worst nightmare come to life. I’m the filthy rich guy who’s coming for revenge. Everything you’ve ever had. Everything you hold dear. I won’t stop until I break you.
Rocky You were once my savior. Now you’re my bully. I’m the girl from the wrong side of the wrong side of the tracks. No match for your money, your might, or your wrath. But I’m not going down without a fight. When I go, I’ll take you with me. Because we’re more alike than you want to admit. And more connected than you know. This is not a love story.
MV ELLIS knows what it’s like to fall head over heels in love with a badass musician. She moved from London to Sydney after a steamy holiday romance with a sexy bass player in sultry Brazil. Twelve years, two children and a dog later, and she’s still smitten. All this with a guy she sat next to on a bus for 36 hours!
Ellis’ love of romance began when she was 11 years old, after a summer spent secretly reading her auntie’s books. She’s been a sucker for an alpha hero and strong heroine ever since. Following a career spanning advertising, marketing, and social media, she finally wrote Catching London in 2017.
Life has made Rocky Gordon into a tough woman who won't let anyone put her down. Although she always had to struggle, now she studies in a prestigious college on a scholarship, surrounded by wealthy spoiled students, but keeps a low profile so she doesn't get in trouble... until she meets the meanest guy around.
Xavier Cross is the rich, arrogant bad-boy who always gets what he wants - and he wants revenge on the person who hurt him the past. 💣 I absolutely loved him (well, MOST OF THE TIME. sometimes he really went too far, damn it!!!) and I especially enjoyed watching him develop during the book. He was a perfect mix of a villain and a romantic. 😍
When the two first meet, it's hatred at first sight! 🔥 Even though Rocky is the complete opposite of him, he can't stop thinking about her. She challenges him like no one ever did... 💙 But when Xavier discover her big dirty secret, he uses it to break her and avenge his old enemy. But who will be the one to break in this story...??? 😱
First of all, I fucking LOVE this cover!!! It's one of the sexiest covers I've ever seen. 🔥🔥🔥 Recently I read lots of bully's novels, and most of them were pretty much the same. What I liked in this book is that it takes place in college and not high school, which was refreshing... I loved the unexpected Twists, the twisted dark plot, the strong characters and the hot (as fuck) crazy sex scenes! Oh man, I thought my Kindle was going to burn with their crazy passion and hatred (talk about angry sex!). 😍💥😍💥
Although I enjoyed the book, there were a few things I didn't like... First of all, the beginning was slow and I almost lost my interest, but after some chapters, it caught on. 💙 Plus, I really liked Rocky's character - her wit made me laugh out loud! And yet, to my taste, she forgave Xavier much too quickly for everything he did, which didn't quite fit her bad-ass personality. 😬
Besides that, this was a really great book - a thrilling dark romance with lots of passion, lust and... even sweet romantic moments! 💙💥 This is my first read from this author's, but it certainly won't be the last! 👏
I signed up to read this book because of the cover, holy hell have you seen that? 🔥I also love Bully romances so when I read the blurb I was like hell yeah!
Break you is the love hate relationship of Xavier and Rocky. Their sexual chemistry and burning desire between the pair of them is off the charts.
Who doesn’t love a rich possessive alpha hole because I know I do and Xavier lived up to that title. I loved that Rocky didn’t just bow down to him though! I will admit Rocky and some of her decisions did annoy me at times.
The first half of the book I found a little slow to get into but once I started reading the second half I couldn’t put it down. With twists and turns I never saw coming, MV Ellis had me on the edge of my seat trying to predict what was coming next.
If you love a good Bully, enemies to lovers, hate to love romance then this is the book for you.
Xavier Cross tasted like cigarettes, sin and regret. A whole lot of regret. But my body didn’t care.
This was a new author to me, but the cover had me breaking my rules again....skipping down my TBR list to read it. The blurb was interesting, & after reading the prologue it set the tone for what I figured was going to be an exciting read. I had no idea just how truly explosive these two would be together.....almost to the point I forgot what the story was about outside their insanely good verbal sparing & incredibly hot angry sex. This is one of those books I wish other authors read to truly see what "chemistry" is all about. I loved it, from start to finish.
"She was beyond… well, just beyond. Anything and everything. For someone who pushed every one of my buttons outside of the bedroom, she ticked every box inside."
Book Facts: Told in dual POV, Break You is book 1 in the Boys of Trinity Hall series. It can be read as a standalone & does have an extended HEA. Two people who represent everything the other hates, a rich boy & the girl who is key to his revenge. They hate each other but have magnetic pull towards one another. He NEEDS to break her, she is much stronger than he could have ever imagine. They can deny a lot, but their explosive chemistry isn't one of those things. This is not a love story, but there are connections that can either make it one or destroy any future they could have. When revenge is what you seek, will you stop at nothing to get it? Or will you finally be faced with something that is worth even more?
“Don’t be pissed, Angry Girl. I told you I was an asshole.”
Timeline of Thoughts: Starting:Gawh that cover....idc what the book is about at this point. 5%:Well Rocky came out with a bang....she keeps this up she might earn a top 5 spot on my heroine list. 12%:I am pretty sure I know exactly who Rocky's brother is already. 20%:You know how certain characters just have chemistry so explosive you can "feel" it? These two are seriously EXPLOSIVE. 21%:Gawh they are SO HOT. 46%:Again with these two...I can't see it ever turning to love but they are so hot. 53%:I am not half as interested in the actual plot happening as I am of just the two of them together. 70%:Honestly I just want a book of these two have nonstop hate/angry sex & hateful back & forth banter. 76%:I know what this connection will be and OMG so sweet! 83%:Wait, why would he think she would be "cool" with that exactly? 86%:OMG REALLY? Why was "Loaded Boy" doing that in the first place? 94%:My FAVORITE part of this book (that's not angry sex related)....all the feels (even though I called it earlier on). 98%:Extended epilogue? Heck yes! I am always up for HEA over HFN endings! Finished:I geniunely loved this story because of this couple!
"The Five": Double the Loves from Book: the cover, staff bathroom incident, Dr. Reylton, their explosive chemistry, Angry Girl/Loaded Boy, Kik, Question #8, Pete, the workout bar scene, warehouse "meet". Quotes: “Challenge accepted, Angry Girl. Every. Fucking. Time.” I punctuated each word with a thrust, and this time didn’t resist when she locked her ankles behind me. “Now open your goddamned eyes.” -Xavier
“I hate that I want you as much as I do.” He wasn’t the only one. “Same. Fuck me from behind. I don’t even want to see your face when I come.” -Xavier & Rocky
“What do I want from you, Angry Girl?” He pushed his long finger slowly into and out of his mouth, sucking it clean before answering the question I’d started asking earlier. “Everything... and I’ll get it, no matter what.” -Xavier
"Now, let’s go back to your place— I’m gonna screw you in your bed, missionary-style with the lights on, Angry Girl." "What the hell? We have our whole lives to have old-people sex. We don’t need to start now." -Xavier & Rocky
"If that’s sex with someone who hates me, I literally never want to screw someone who loves me." -Xavier
Honorable Mention: “Xavier, I can’t—” I couldn’t even finish the sentence. My back arched again, and my eyes closed involuntarily. “Yeah, you can, and you will.” -Rocky
Final Thoughts:
Current Feelings:
1. These two have the most intense, rage- fueled chemistry I've ever seen in a couple from a book. Holy crap. Its so believable from the start. This is seriously how I felt (summed up by Drew): "There was so much heat, I could have fried an egg in the air between the two of you. As it is, I got a boner just watching." 2. I absolutely love their back & forth hateful banter however, I don't like that Rocky is made to sound so much more angry & unhinged for seemingly no reason. She comes off far more hostile & downright cruel to him even when he isn't being like that back. 3. As sad as this is to say, this may be the very first romance I've read featuring an interracial couple (blonde boy & FOC with braids). I hate this isn't a more common occurrence, but I LOVED the visual and how refreshing it was! 4. There were some pretty evident issues with quotations being used in places a conversation wasn't taken place, or a piece of dialogue not being closed off by quotations as well. A few typo errors as well, but the quotations made it a little hard to read at times (trying to figure out what convo I was missing at the time). 5. The great thing about this book is is fueled by one central plot driver yet its revealed just how intricate & deep it all goes. Even the way things are wrapped up hold true to the way the story is told. Plus that extended epilogue? When I get to see into the future to a true HEA (& not just a few weeks or months later), it always makes me love a book a little more.
Overall, despite the minor editing errors I absolutely loved reading this book. I know at least one reader considers every book's "couple" as having explosive chemistry, I can say I have rarely (if at all) seen a book couple define it to this degree.....its that intense & delicious. I could have read a book with no plot except these two going at it physically or verbally. Lucky me though, because the plot is a really good one as well! I definitely recommend this read. My only problem is not getting more of Xavier & Rocky!
"It means that the first time we locked eyes, at Trinity Hall, both angry and in combat mode, it was a done deal, no matter how much we both tried to deny it, or avoid it, or smother it. It means you were mine from the start, Angry Girl."
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dnf 10% First page: the hero is having sex with someone in the bathroom meanwhile the heroine is banging on the bathroom door because she wanted to pee 🙃
PEOPLE, Stop fucking in public bathrooms for God's sake, I don't want to get STDs 😭
I read enough books where they do it in public bathrooms, I'm never going to use public anything at this point.
I wasn't in the mood to finish because I kept thinking about all the public toilets I used in my life 😪, I wasn't impressed by what I read anyway.
I’m being lazy there were parts that I liked and parts that I didn’t. Overall, an ok read... spoiler: 8 years to get married? All that says to me is the guy had commitment tissues. Especially since they already had kids. A real alpha guy would have dragged her down the isle. Unless he didn’t want to? Ruins the romance, and basically the epilogue. I deducted a star just for that crap...
⭐️ 4 "Cygnus Dei" Stars ⭐️ When I first read the blurb of Break You, I was really intrigued about this story! Bully romance is a trope I’m hooked to and this one sounded somewhat dark and intense! M.V. Ellis twisted an enigmatic story with hints of darkness with a couple sharing off the charts hot chemistry as her main protagonists.
When I was first introduced to Rocky, I was amazed by the girl! Seriously, she’s so badass and and doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind and making some situations extremely amusing and engaging. When she first meets Xavier, he’s a true jerk like every rich boy at Heathcote University and she puts him in his place with her fierce words. From there, every single one of their interaction leaks animosity, but also pure attraction!
Under all her bravado though, Rocky has a more fragile side she keeps hidden to others. She didn’t have a great upbringing, but always persevered with her dreams of a better future. She’s truly a good example of dedication and bravery. As much as Xavier seems to be her complete opposite with all the money and his high status at the university, everything is only a façade. He might act all cold and superior, but inside he’s only alone and bitter about his family! I loved discovering facets of both their personalities! They’re complex characters I appreciated a lot!
The novel is filled with suspense and the intrigue takes a direction I wasn’t expecting making my read even more thrilling. The blackmail and secrets had me gasping for air. The sexual tension between Rocky and Xavier provided some utterly steamy hot moments!
Break You is a book that kept me invested all read long. The shady business and secrets, intense chemistry, but also the emotional instants only make this read more solid. M.V. Ellis started this new Boys of Trinity Hall Series in such a powerful way. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the next novels set in this world!
** ARC received in exchange for an honest review **
Excellent writing. Crazy-badass African American heroine. Wasn't too enamored of the cocky bad boy hero. And eventually, all that anger, biting, pinching, pranking, bullying and general verbal nastiness started turning me off, although it apparently turned the main characters on each and every time. I don't like it when people are violent with each other and then call that lust or attraction. Sorry to be such a Dull Delia! On the bright side, Rocky and Xavier butt heads constantly in this madcap college intrigue - their verbal sparing was often hilarious.
The story was well structured and I enjoyed the author's clean writing style - you can tell that she was raised in England. I was looking for something different, and I certainly found it. I'm rating this a 4 out of 5 because the writing was so good and the story - despite violating my no no list for a good romance - was action packed and intriguing. Enjoy!
Xavier and "Rocky" have an enemies to lovers, bully romance with a "small world" twist.
The story flows like a dream. It's well written and vividly visual. You could picture these characters, see the scenes and will need a towel to clean the stream off your reader.
Plus we get a glimpse into the future 8 years later. I would gladly read more from this author. A+. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
This was the first book I have read by MV Ellis. I enjoyed this bully story and how sassy Rocky was. She and Xavier were sexy and engaging. I enjoyed the surprise in the storyline and the plot twists. I did however feel like Rocky could have let Xavier grovel some more. All in this was a nice read! 3.5 stars! ~Ratula
O.M.G... This book is a monumental page turner. This is by far one of the best books I’ve read in a really long time. I’m so impress with the writing, the pacing and the vivid descriptions of the characters thoughts and feelings.
This is a really well written novel. MV Ellis knows how to write a book and this proved it. It delivers a compelling plot and well build character development. The characters broke stereotypes and have dynamic relationships with fun dialogues. This book is definitely a hate before, I love you trope.
The book is shockingly fast-paced and fresh as a whip. It’s got complex characters and a fast plot. You find yourself falling prey to Xavier’s dashing looks and yet flinch at the ethical motive of his dark side. He’s a big sturdy guy who, by every definition, is dangerous, rude and obnoxious. He was also a pushover and I didn’t think I was going to like him. At first I wasn’t a big fan, he seemed a little too standoffish and rude. But dang, he handled himself like a champ in bad situations, started to act on his feelings for Rocky and I eventually ended up liking him just as a great deal as I liked Rocky.
I absolutely adored Rocky! She was hilarious, strong, squared off. She was also damaged, guarded, sassy, but by the deities, you root for her every step of the way. You see her grow a backbone, and become the person she is meant to be and it's a compelling transforming.
The author wrote great character growth between these two. They both had awesome chemistry. Rocky and Xavier got together eventually, much later after the tug of war between them, and I’m glad that their relationship didn’t happen Overnight. It was tumultuous, witty, piquant and fun to watch how they both tried to pretend that they hate and not like each other.
This novel had a very compelling plot. It’s a great tale of a two different people who faces off with a very powerful outside force. The built, mystery and suspense in this book is truly well done and I can’t stress it enough.
The plot was unspoiled, and it really flowed. These types of books tend to be boring because too much information is pile and this sometimes makes it complicated, but MV Ellis did a splendid job of smashing this stereotype and turn it into a hit.
So if you're interested in a phenomenal plot and narrative elements, with a building romance, this is your book.
This was my first book by this talented author. It had references to characters that immediately had me looking to see if they had books. They did!!! 💙
I just love a book with a hot insufferable bully. Xavier was all that and more. Rocky was the girl that fought her way through life. Pulling herself up time and time again by her boot straps. Together they were explosive.
I felt that she woke him up. The twist??? I didn’t see coming. It was so far off the realm of what I was thought was coming. I was shocked.
My favorite part was when she told him about her life-changing moment. This made me teary eyed, but only a few chapters later made me cry when it came full circle. “I have the tattoo there to remind me every day that I’m a different person now, from that scared and lonely little girl, and that I can do this. I’ve got this.” 💙💙💙💙💙
What a great read! I loved Xavier and Rocky. This is the second book for me by this author and I loved it. I was sucked in from the start and couldn’t put this down. I loved the banter between these two, they were fire. So many twists and turns, off the charts sexy, and deliciously steamy. Rocky is a strong woman bent on not taking any crap from Xavier, she is a great match for him. I loved the other characters in the book, loved Pixie and the twist, wow I didn’t see that coming. I can’t wait to read more and see what journey’s this author takes them. I found this book on BookSprout.
This book was stupid. I normally don’t leave reviews unless it really moved me or I really felt like I wasted my time. This book had no substance and no real rhyme or reason to it. The sex scenes weren’t even anything to go by. I couldn’t get into this at all and do not want to read anything else from this author unless she can do better.
Wow! This was my first read by this author, and it blew me away!! I absolutely loved Xavier and Rocky!! This book was so riveting, I read it in one sitting!! I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Another example of me judging a book by its cover, I totally signed up to read this book because of its hot AF cover 😂😂 and then I read the blurb and was even more intrigued.
A bit slow to start but once you get into it, it is really good. The main characters have wild, angry sex all the time but they also actually genuinely hate each other for a large proportion of the book. I loved the twist, it was so refreshingly unexpected.
It was hard to connect with Xavier until later in the book because he was just so cold and detached (but he does grow on you 😜), whereas Rocky was pretty badass and strong and I instantly liked her character.
Break You is book 1 of the Boys of Trinity Hall series. Next up is Drew and Kik's story which I am really excited to read. Both the characters were compelling in Break You.
If you love a good enemies-to-lovers story then this one is for you 👍
As an avid reader of enemies turn lover books BreakYou by MV Ellis ticked all my boxes. I literally couldn’t put this book down. Xander Cross is rich alpha-hole with a I rule the world attitude. Rocky is a bad a$$ girl with a take no crap personality who’s been in and out of the system her entire life. Mix the two together you get off the charts chemistry. MV Ellis does a great job rounding out these characters. If you a fan of alpha males and heroines who are strong and independent then this book is for you. You won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait for more in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The climax of this book ruined it for me. Absolutely ruined it. I was left saying WTF!? I felt like I wasted my time reading this. Loved where it was going, super loved the beginning and then left perplexed as to what the point was. I don’t like giving bad reviews, I really don’t but this one just left a bad taste in my mouth. The beginning of the book was so promising that I would try another book by this author though.
Well I'm not sure what to really say about this. I didnt hate it but didnt like it very much either. Not sure if my head just wasnt in it or what but for the most part I just couldnt get hooked. To me Xavier had 0 qualities to him besides the sex. I despised him from the beginning. Now Rocky on the other hand was no quitter and I liked that about her. She was a tough cookie so I give props for that. But to me this story was missing alot of something. I have read some reviews where people really enjoyed this book so it could just be me.
Combustible! That is the only way to describe Break You by MV Ellis. This book was a sexually fueled roller coaster ride that takes off at warp speed. There is no slow leading up, oh no, the story line and the characters are enough to strap you to your seat and not let you up till the ride is over. Enemies to friends romance with lots of scary tormenting thrown in, Break You will leave you reeling. This is book one of the Boys of Trinity Hall and I can’t wait to see which boy is next in the story line. 5-stars for Break You by MV Ellis.
Rukiya “Rocky” Gordon has had to fight for everything that she has. In and out of the foster system Rocky has her walls built up so she doesn’t get hurt. Even with her outstanding GPA and awards Rocky had to rely on a scholarship to go to the prestigious Heathcote College. Surrounded by privileged spoiled students Rocky keeps her head down and tries to fly under the radar, at least until an unfortunate run in with one of the richest boys at school. Xavier Cross has only known privilege his whole life but when he meets Rocky, a girl who is the exact opposite of him, he can’t stop thinking about her. The two hate each other instantly and when Xavier finds out a deep, dark secret about Rocky she becomes the most interesting person he’s ever met. To exact his revenge on an old enemy Xavier must break Rocky and try not to lose his heart in the process.
This was my first time reading a book by this author so I didn't really know what to expect going into reading Break You. I will say it was a bit of a change for me. I don't read a lot of bully romance books so that way Xavier was behaving got to me at times but he still had that sexy alpha-ness to him and he got me with the tattoos!
Rocky on the other had got on my nerves at times too but she is one independent woman and I admired that about her. She didn't have an easy life growing up with turned her into the strong-minded woman she grew up to be. She didn't let fear get in the way even when Xavier pushed her too far.
I loved the ending though, it has a bit of a twist and hot, steamy scenes right up until the last page. That's how you end a book with a bang!
Wowza! This book went in a totally different direction than what I originally thought it was going to be, but it was a good surprise! Right off the bat Xavier and Rocky have this “love to hate you” vibe going on between them and there is an instant fire between them.
Both characters aren’t afraid to speak their minds and they can really go at it! Even though they swear they hate each other, it’s hard to miss the attraction between them and once they both acknowledge it, everything heats up from there.
The story was really interesting and had me on the edge of my seat at times, so good!!
If you love the enemies to lovers trope (like I do!!) then you’ll enjoy this book! =)
*I kindly received an ARC and this is my honest review.*
INSATIABLE EXCITEMENT! 5 CRAZY STARS! Angry Girl vs. Loaded Boy!👍👍👍👍👍 I'm gonna need therapy and a healthy shot of brain bleach to clear the tangled web of words that played out throughout this fantastic read that was done with a very creative mind. The story flowed at at a nice quick pace and kept me filled with excitement dry humour and even took a few lashes at my heartstrings with unexpected twists and turns along with a few explosive ones that had me doing A retake to make sure I haven't lost my ever lovin mind. The intensity and anger filled drama along with the chaotic chemistry had me eating up the words like a Greedy Girl who couldn't get her fill fast enough. A first by this author and I'm looking forward to reading a whole lot more
Love and hate are just two sides of the one coin. That’s what it is like from the moment Xavier and Rocky meet. Xavier is holding onto a vendetta and is just a total ahole, Rocky has a instant hatred that any time she’s near Xavier she wants to hurt him and for some reason he is in her face a lot. This book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat with your heart pounding out of your chest in some areas. I would suggest you read Zed by this author before reading but not necessary. Absolutely loved it and I agree with the author This is not a love story till it is. Definitely a 5 star read.
First from this author for me won’t be the last I put this on my tbr list a while ago so when it came out I got it straight away. Since I’m going through a bully romance phase atm I knew I had to read this ASAP . Let me just say I was not disappointed , once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. it was hot as hell I wanted more didn’t want it to end . Rocky was bad ass I loved her and Xavier let me just say yummm 😋 this had twist and turns and the sexual chemistry between these two was off the chain. This is bully romance at its finest Angry Girl and Loaded boy sizzled no matter how hard they fought . Loved every second of this book cannot wait for the next one .
I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I am rating this book 4.5 stars. I love bully books but I also feel like there is a limit and stop button. But with xavior I didn't see much of that. He's extremely cruel and mean. Rocky I had a few things to say to her too like what are you doing!?? Once you read it you see what I mean. I'm also really interested in Drew now I want more of him.
This is a good story of with steam angry smex. I liked the story. It's not dark. Not really a bully but he does scare her with pranks. The big con forme was the characters weren't described well likee even still I'm not sure what Rocky looks like besides either mixed or black. I love a mixed couple but this wasn't described well to show it. But a good read. Xavier is a bit possessive which is the be MC for me.
