Joykeeper: 6 Truths That Change Everything You Thought You Knew about Joy

Rate this book
During a long season of sorrow, there were days that Suzanne Eller would whisper to herself, "Joy is more than a feeling; it is a knowing." She was learning that to keep joy in her life, she needed to sort out her feelings and what she knew to be true, starting with
- What I feel: God is disappointed when I am sad.
- What I know: God cares about how I feel.
- What I feel: I am not enough.
- What I know: God is aware of who I am becoming.

Examining six biblical truths in all, this power-packed book will help you see joy and God in a new light. Thirty practical and inspirational daily exercises are also included so you can intentionally practice these truths. If you feel sad or frustrated or angry, you're not doing something wrong. The difference comes when you ground your joy in the Source of lasting peace and learn to be a joykeeper.

This book was catalyst for me, in helping me find my joy again. The joy stealers had stolen my joy and I was not even aware they were there. I love Suzie Eller's writing style. She is down to earth and vulnerable. It is obvious that she is just sharing from her heart. As I read, I feel like we are just 2 old friends sitting down to coffee and talking. Through the pages I hear her whisper to my heart and soul that joy is not a feeling, that yes we feel the pain, but joy comes in the knowing. Thank you Suzie.

I also love the simplicity of 6 truths that are so simple and so profound. And each one of them is based on the truth of God's Word. I also love how Suzie keeps pointing us back to God. Some of my favorite parts was Suzie's breakdown of the verse where God calls those heavy burdened to rest, this helped me to better understand this verse. I also loved the teaching on our inner critic/bully. My inner critic works overtime but now I have tools to convert her to an inner cheerleader.

The formats of the chapters are well formatted with key truths and what lie they replace at the beginning. Following the 6 chapters, Suzie includes a 31 day devotional that builds on concepts learned in the book as well as group discussion questions.

So all in all, I recommend this book for every Christian woman. This would also recommend this book for ladies bible study groups. It will change your life

JoyKeeper has been such a blessing during these challenging times. With all the world is going through and all the challenges, Suzanne brings a new perspective to a feeling that I have struggled with for years. Joy stealers have been my constant companions and I am truly grateful for Suzanne shining a light of truth on them. Bringing clarity and truth to this part of my life has given me new hope for the future. Learning to defeat the joy stealers and becoming a JoyKeeper, will be an ongoing process. Thank you for sharing your heart and being obedient to the Lord and His call on you to write this book. I will continue to read this book over and over as the 30 day devotional included in it will keep me grounded in the truth that defeats the joy stealers of this world.

Suzanne Eller is one of my favorite authors, and I happily preordered a copy of Joykeeper.

In Suzie's signature style, she writes with wisdom and vulnerability. This is no Pollyanna prescription for finding more joy. Instead, it's an invitation to slow down, get quiet with God, open yourself to some probing questions, and choose a different mindset.

I'm savoring this book one chapter at a time. Reading Suzie's books is like sitting at the feet of an older, wiser sister in Christ and soaking in all the time-tested, hard-won lessons of faith she's learned. Her teachings have encouraged and shaped me for years, and Joykeeper is one of my new favorites.

I purchased my own copy of Joykeeper from CBD.

Another great one by Suzanne Eller! It warms your heart and soul as Suzie is honest and real in sharing her own difficult life struggles and encourages us to be real about what we feel. The book is filled with powerful truths backed by Scripture and is a beautiful reminder that true joy is found in faith in Jesus and is possible even when our life circumstances are difficult. Suzie helps us learn to expose those things in our lives that seek to drain us of our joy and equips us with practical application to find joy in all circumstances.

I was beyond blessed to be part of the Book study as the release of Suzanne’s latest book, Joy Keeper. Reading this book is like sitting on the porch with a dear friend as she shares her hard won truths of living in joy. Her honest, open-hearted sharing is exactly what we need during this time of uncertainty. She walks you through each teaching point and gives you time to process the truths in your own life through “pause points.” Joy truly is attainable whatever the circumstances because, “Joy is more than a feeling. It’s a knowing.” This is a must read for such a time as this.

Finding Joy and holding onto it can be a struggle for all of us at one time or another. And in these uncertain times it can be even more difficult. In her new book, JoyKeeper, Suzanne Eller shows us just how to retain our Joy when we are faced with situations or events that threaten to steal it. Whether you are going through a personal trial or overwhelmed by the current state of the world, this book can help you reclaim your joy and keep it no matter what comes your way. This book makes an excellent solo read and/or a great book study for your church group or ladies book club.

In a season where Joy seems hard to find, here comes Suzanne Eller with words of hope for us.

She shares her heart and personal journey and in the process exposes the joy stealers that are all around us. We are not just left there though. She gives us the truth that God has given us to combat the lies we have believed about joy.

This book will shine a light on those dark places of hurt, shame, weariness, and insecurity and He will replace it with healing, restoration, truth, and enduring joy. You will walk away changed and on your way to becoming a lifelong JoyKeeper.

Am currently halfway through. It’s amazing, honest, vulnerable and SO insightful and helps you go deeper into the why and the how. One of the best books in helping me find joy that I’ve read over the last several years...and there have been quite a few released on this subject from writers/teachers that I highly respect. If you’re looking for joy and the tools for how to find and keep it...in my humble opinion, this is definitely the book you need to read.

I read this for a womens church group, and I was skeptical because a couple women in the group had gone through some very tough times, and was worried they would feel as if 'joy' was being shoved at them. I was very pleasantly surprised that they enjoyed it, and it isn't about being "happy" all the time, but how joy can be experienced even through the hardest of times. With everything going on in our country right now, it was a very timely read that was needed.

Joykepper helps you rekindle that flame of joy that God put in you. Helps to get you to the point of knowing and living a life of joy in every moment, even in the hard and sorrowful times - "'Joy is not just a feeling", definitely a must read and will be a great Bible study pick

Suzanne Eller has written a beautiful life changing book on joy. What steals our joy, what causes angst and worry. She had many examples of joy stealers and then the Avenue to having Joy in the midst of trials. This book leads to growth and freedom as we embrace being a joykeeper. I highly recommend this book.

Life changing read! She writes in a personal and relatable way. She redefined joy in a way that feels maintainable and attainable. It isn’t something I need to find or work for. It isn’t a feeling it’s a knowing!!!! I felt such a freedom while reading. I love the way she emphasized joy stealers and joy keepers. Easy to understand and remember. For sure I recommend this book!!

As a woman who studies JOY religiously, JOYKEEPER is a book I read with great excitement. I wish I had had time to participate in Suzanne's online Bible Study. I had been looking forward to that, as well, but it just did not work out. I certainly am very glad I read JOYKEEPER and I look forward to reading more by Ms. Eller.

Maybe she'll read my book #JoyActions one day. :)

This book...what a gift in a time that I am struggling to find joy. Between all of the stresses of COVID and family, this was the exact message I was needing. I was reminded that joy isn’t just a feeling and my real joy is in Jesus. It’s possible to have joy even on the hardest days.

Great slow walk through what joy is and pause points so that you reflect on what/how you understand and accept it. I also like the devotional included in the back. Really helps to make sure you absorb these truths without rushing the process.

Suzie Eller has done it again, and in a big, impactful way. JoyKeeper exudes the wisdom of a life that has sought and found a joy-wrapped faith. You will be drawn in by her transparency and honest voice, and held close by her steadfast heart. JoyKeeper is more than advice. Suzie helps you apply her hard-won concepts to your own life through Pause Points. This book can change your Christian walk like few others I’ve encountered. (As a bonus, the book ends with a 30-Day Devo, and a Group Discussion Guide is included at the back of the book!)
