Slaying the Giant of Fear: And Releasing the Roar of Breakthrough

Rate this book
Fear is a giant that shouts at us from the battle lines of our lives--a giant adorned in seemingly impenetrable armor. But God has given us supernatural weapons that even fear cannot outrun.

Sharing stories from her own life and others', author and speaker Krissy Nelson uncovers a powerful truth: As children of God we are made to live fearlessly. Concealed within the familiar story of David and Goliath are three supernatural weapons David used to slay the giant of fear. These weapons are hidden in plain sight for us to discover--and also to learn to use, because what God gave David, he also gives us. Nelson dives into Scripture and explores how to position yourself to see fear for what it is: a giant that dares defy the army of the living God.

It is time to run boldly toward freedom. You are equipped for battle, and you are not alone--God will fight for you!

In Slaying the Giant of Fear, Krissy Nelson explored the topic of fear and how it dominates us and what we can learn from scripture on how to conquer them. In the book, she looked at three supernatural weapons that are hidden in the story of David and Goliath. These included obedience, faithfulness, and stewardship. She looked at how David was obedient to God’s calling on his life and how he chose to listen and to do the small tasks as a shepherd boy. This in turn led David through the process and steps to overtaking Goliath. He was unafraid and was a man after God’s own heart and he knew God wanted his people Israel to take the land that was made for them.

She explained how she experienced fears in her life and was very personal in sharing how she handled the fears. One of her fears woke her up late at night right after she had her newborn baby. She opened up about her fear of leaving her and returning to the corporate world and she had her dream job. Meanwhile she was crying and she told her husband she didn’t want to go back to work. She also shared how between contractions she was dedicated to her work and how she was busy sending out emails to candidates letting them know if they were hired or not. She was conflicted on what to do. Eventually, she went back to work and struggled and cried and after six months she quit her job. She was able to find a 9 to 5 job that let her focus on her family when she was at home. During this time, she realized how much she was living in fear of what people thought of her, failure, and rejection. She made a decision to change her life and to go all in into following Christ.

I would recommend this awesome book on conquering fear and releasing your roar where you can go into your personal victory. I immensely enjoyed learning the weapons David used in defeating Goliath and how he was unafraid in the battle. I appreciated how open she was in sharing how she struggled with fears and how she was able to get her breakthrough. I liked how she also included other stories from scriptures such as, Esther, Moses, Saul, and much more. I liked how she opened up about her own fears and she shared other stories from others and what they learned on how to not let fear dominate their lives. This book has the potential to assist readers in slaying their giants in their own lives.

Slaying the Giant of Fear is a book for Christians about the tools we need, and those God has given us, in order to charge ahead and through fear. This book is especially useful for people amid a hard time in life who need to know how to reach out and trust God with it. I also think this is a good starting point for people wanting to read more Christian-based self-help.

Some great things about this:
- Lots of references to scripture
- Focus on a particular biblical story throughout the book
- Provides a faithful toolbox for slaying the giant of fear

I do wish there had been a few more practical suggestions, although the book tried to use parables to try to explain certain concepts, such as stewardship. The book also contained lots of personal stories and examples. I also think it may not be the best starting place for Christians who suffer from mental health issues such as chronic anxiety. There may be other resources for ways to pray through anxiety or such, instead of just general struggles that life throws at everyone.

Overall, a standard Christian book, but an easy and fast read that could provide lasting value to some.

The first book I listened to straight through into 2 to 3 days never done that before. I would skim through and say to myself, I read it. But not all the way through.I lied to myself.

I’m grateful that I broke through the fear of is it possible to read a whole book or listen to an entire book. I don't think I can pay attention for that long or read that slow without getting dudtracted .

That was my number one fear in my adult life, I cannot finish what I start.I don’t want to read a book or listen to a whole book and I never knew why.

I just know why now. I believed deeply I never could complete it now I can.

Krissy’s latest book, Slaying the Giant of Fear, echoes her love of the Lord and her passion for helping others overcome the enemy’s greatest weapon—fear. I loved her transparency and honest sharing of her own struggles. I love to highlight spiritual golden nuggets as I read, and I think I highlighted 2/3 of the book. :-) It was written for such a time as this. Loved it!!!

I was hoping for more practical steps for slaying fear. Scripture rich resource sharing about overcoming fear with obedience, stewardship, and faithfulness and looking to Christ. I was hoping that this book would help me help my adult child cope with fear. I think if I was new to dealing with fear it would have been more appropriate. For my son, I think he’d get lost in this style. Thankful to partner with Baker publishing to read this book.

Slaying the Giant of Fear by Krissy Nelson is a Christian non-fiction book. The story of David and Goliath is prevalent throughout this book to show how to face our fears. There is a lot of scripture used to support her ideas of how to fight fear. The author shares from her own experiences and the lessons she has learned to overcome fear. This book was an easy read and one that I read as a chapter a day. Thanks to Chosen Books for this review copy.
