This counts as my review for the whole Haikyuu!! manga
READ FOR: best character developments and themes that I have ever encountered
READING LEVEL: Level 1-3 out of 5
*All of my reviews are as spoiler-free as possible unless stated otherwise*
I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.
It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.
When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.
PLOT: ★★★★★
The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.
ART STYLE: ★★★★★
The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.
CHARACTERS: ★★★★★
The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.
The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.
This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.

THEMES: ★★★★★
Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper. And the symbolisms? You are not ready.
I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++
The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.
PACING: ★★★★★
THE TIMING. OF EVERYTHING. JUST MAKES SENSE.
It’s so realistic that I want to cry. (I actually already did… a lot of times.)

You should understand that I made this review weeks after I finally calmed down about this series cuz I was really going crazy about it HAHAHA if you have finished this series too or met me while I was reading this, you know what I’m talking about ;)
I'll keep this series close to my heart until the grave. You cannot convince me otherwise.

I really wish this series would decide whether it wants to a) make me cry laughing, b) make my heart swell with joy, or c) hit me so hard in the feels I start crying. Because having all those things happen to me in the span of one volume is fucking exhausting.

This volume hit me so fucking hard. We were so high and it was such an emotive moment and them bum, I felt literally slammed to the floor. I don’t know what’s gonna happen next but I’m so worried and so incredibly sad :(
I know hinata’s fever is not that bad and that he’ll get over it, but this is the first match he has to miss and it’s the quarter finals and I’m worried about how it will affect his psique and the rest of the team’s too. I don’t know man I just love them all so much I’m constantly worried about them, I feel like I’m their mother.

I DON’T LIKE SEEING HINATA CRY. IT’S LIKE SEEING THE SUN CRY. I WAS READING THIS SO I WOULDN’T BE SAD.
Ugh. My heart. Takeda-sensei’s speech got to me. I gotta hand it to Furudate though, the whole volume he lets you think Tsukki is the one who’s getting tired, but then he turns it around. My poor lil sun baby :(

OH MY GOD—
Man, the build up for this volume final chapter was TOTALLY INSANE. This is so sad and bitter, yet realistic at the same time. To work so hard to get into nationals and at a critical time, in a blink of eyes, WUSSS— you lost the chance to play on one of its final match. It shows how amazing this series is, bridging the gap between fiction and reality.
Also, Takeda-sensei's speech to Hinata was wonderfully written. It's not flowery and feels really genuine. What a great teacher he is! 🥺
And yeah, of course, I'm writting this while crying.
And I think we collectively agree that 39,1 was a cursed number.

Good sweet jesus, currently sobbing violently at the toilet because what the hell was this???? My chest is so heavy filled with emotions.
Definitely this is the best volume I've ever read, primarily because it brought me back to my volleyball years the most and the whole being in a team vibes, going to competitions, training. I suddenly got the urge to text my coach even (puszi Tibi bácsi)
I think every single character shone the brightest this volume, love you Daichi especially
THE SETTERS, i cried - in fact i cried multiple times but that's besides the point. Kageyama dropped some amazing setter lines again and i just love how furudate gets how setters feel and work (ATSUMUUUUUU)
We don't talk about the fever thing, it didnt happen, i do not acknowledge it
Also, i could rant a day about this volume however the end with ishikawa?????? Halo??????? Sorry vivi i wont deny i wanted to rip the page out to out under my pillow

Like for real! Not after all the amazing things that have taken place and how this whole team is honestly just going up to another level. It simply was not suppose to end this way. 😭😭😭😭
I know technically it's not over, but there is no way things will go back to "normal" after that. (At least in regards to this match.) I did love how everyone encouraged this certain person in question and how Sensei did not back down after getting one the fiercest looks I have ever seen this character give anyone!
On a lighter note, seeing Tsukki actually "compete" with Hinata is absolutely amazing! I said it in my last review and I'll say it again, I never thought I would be so gun ho for Tsukki! He has really grown so much!!
It was INCREDIBLE to see Hinata come full circle in regards to a certain thing (being vague due to spoilers)! That was such a moving and powerful moment and could not help but cheer for him! I didn't think there would be a time where he would fully embrace who he was called all along by a certain someone. Also, he finally got that blocker to notice him and even REACT! YEAH!!
Once again, we have commentary from other teams and I absolutely love it! I felt bad for Goshiki though! LOL! And LOVED Kindaichi's expression when he realized who he would be facing next year! LOL! Also, KITA-SAN!!!!! SQUEALS! SO glad to see him pop up with the Twins!! That was great! <3 <3 <3
Another good moment was both Hoshiumi and another certain coach of a certain team (I won't say due to spoilers) that was a good heartfelt(?) moment. I liked seeing a glimpse of vulnerability in them both and how it pertained to Hinata. Good stuff!
Casual panel of Johzenji appearance and was 100% here for it! (That scene involving Daichi was priceless!)
This was an excellent volume that my heart breaks for that ending. Feel I might go to bed with tears in my eyes because I just wasn't expecting that...

توئیست اخر این جلد یکی از حالگیر ترین تويئست هایی بود که به عمرم توی یه مانگا و کتاب خوندم و واقعا وات د هک؟؟ انتظار هر چیزی داشتم غیر از این 🤕
پ.ن1:کاگیاما تو این جلد نشون داد پتانسیل بیشتر جرک بودن رو هم داره 😒😒
پ.ن2:شنیده بودم مانگاکا قراره سری دوم مانگا رو که هم بنویسه که مثله اینکه شایعه بوده😑🤦♀️
ضد حال بسیار 🤦♀️😑
