Okay, this book almost received a two star rating from me due to its implausible narrative; however, the writing saved it. The nonstop adventuring kept my kids and I on the edge of our seats!

Despite the far fetched nature of the storyline itself, the fast paced tension and nonstop action ended up balancing things out; I can't help but give this book a solid three stars.

This book has it all: Spiders and Lions and Bears oh my! Plus, poison dart frogs, a rhino, and the need for CPR? Yep, all found here!

How one person can find themselves in so many predicaments, and live to tell about it, is beyond me; but, Sam Fox defies the odds each and every time! Sam is, hands down, my kids current book hero.

Onto the next "Extreme Adventure" we go!

The third action packed extreme adventure in the series I have read, and this one features the characters from Mission Fox who get caught in a runaway hot air balloon and then let the action begin for the rest of the book it is non stop. Sam Fox seriously you need to stay home!
More action than your average spider can handle.
The one note is this spider was not radioactive so there is no web slinging around but all the same it was extreme in its action.

I just finished reading Extreme Adventures #5: Spider Bite by Justin D'Ath. The genre of this book is adventure. The main charters were Sam and his identical twin brothers, Jorden & Harry. They have all been through some crazy adventures together. Sam is in high school and the twins are 5 years old. The story takes place in Sydney, Aulstraila. The book doesn't say when the story takes place. In the book, Sam & The twins try to save some people who crash land in a hot-air baloon. They got into the baloon to try to stop it from flying away but the baloon flies away with them in it! Somehow a spider got on Harry! Then it got on Jorden! Sam reconized the spider. It was a Funnel-Web Spider, if it bit you, you could die! The spider bit Jorden and he started acting weired! Will Jorden live? Read the book to find out. I really liked this book because it was very intense at times. I think that the author did a good job keeping the reader entertained whitch is why I gave it 5 stars. I recomend this book to 5th graders because it kept me on the edge of my seat throuout the whole book.

Teenager Sam Fox goes on a harrowing adventure in a hot air balloon with his younger twin brothers and pet dog. They encounter many obstacles as they fly along in a balloon out of control. There are wild animals, deadly spiders, cars and airplanes in their way. The action never stops. Just as Sam seems to have things under control something else happens. It's unbelievable how quick he has to think to keep himself, his dog and his brothers safe. These extreme adventure books show you ways to think outside the box, to think under stressful conditions, how to be creative and never give up even when things look dire. Sam Fox is like a super hero boy scout...he evades danger in the nick of time using his brain....it makes for a fun, entertaining read.

Spider Bite is yet again another very exciting book in the Extreme Adventures series by Justin D'Ath. This book is packed with adrenaline-pumping events that will leave the reader breathless as the action unfolds before their eyes. Poor Sam . . . he always seems to find himself in very dangerous situations. The good news for us is that these circumstances are very thrilling and we get to go along for the ride safely from wherever we are reading these books.

I really enjoy the Extreme Adventures books and always know that when I pick up one of these books, I am prepared for a roller coaster ride of a story. In this story, Sam must not only deal with being stuck in a hot air balloon and not knowing how to pilot it, but a sick brother who will die in less than 24 hours unless he is treated. Oh yeah, we cannot forget about the zoo and all the wild animals in there that he has to face, like bears, lions, snakes, and more. Now this is what I call a breathtaking adventure.

Justin D'Ath is a master at writing stories that will keep the reader sitting on the edge of their chair. The action is non-stop and the tenseness in the book will leave the reader's heartbeat pumping hard as they gobble up the pages following Sam though all of the traumatizing events. Young Readers, especially boys, will love Sam Fox and wish that this could be happening to them. I highly recommend the Extreme Adventures series to all readers who love a fast-paced story chocked full of action and adventure.

Overall, Spider Bite is another excellent story that made me bite off all my fingernails as Sam successfully navigated one exciting challenge after another. I cannot wait to see what happens in his next book entitled, Man-Eater. Uh oh, that sure doesn't sound very safe.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.

Started out good. And ended good. It was a good book. But there were a few 'un-relistic' things that happened. Like how Sam says you can touch a poison dart frog and not get poisoned. If you touched your mouth after you touch one then you would die in like 2 or 3 min. Its poison is enough to kill 100 MEN!!!
People just don't get that. THEN he fought off a Kimodo Dragon. Well not exactly...it grabbed his jeans and ripped them and in order to escape he had to slip his jeans off and run around in boxers and sneakers. A 14 year old kid in his boxers trying to save his brothers life. He is pretty desperate as you can tell. (I won't give away everything)
One more thing. This is the worst. His twin brothers are 5 years old. In the beginning when they are trying to get off the balloon Sam tells Harry, one of his 5 year old brothers to JUMP off the balloon. So he does and survives a 20 foot fall. :P
But everytime he escapes danger he finds more which goes in two ways for me.
1. It is awesome! More danger and excitement.
2. You can't get to the end or shall I say- He can't get to the antiveom because he keeps running into more danger.
(But thats good because then he has to hurry because his brothers life is on the line!)

But I don't know if the is a fiction-fiction story or is a fact-fiction story where you use real facts but you make up a fiction story. Either way, make sure you read #1,#2,#3, & #4 before you read this otherwise Sam spoils what has happened to him before. Other than that...3 stars- which translats for me, meaning: I liked it.

Not much of plot here...the author basically just jumped into the action and went from one crisis to the next. It was crazy and made your head spin. Nott my cup of tea.

However...I could see this book/series having HUGE appeal, especially for boys and reluctant readers. My son was hooked, just from the covers (newly redone) and the titles.

Only available through the USBORNE home market, if bought new. Probably best for boys in grades 2-8.

I liked how the whole book wouldn't have hapened if his brothers would have just left the hot air balloon alone. There were a lot of intense parts - he battled a lion, narrowly escaped a rhino, jumped through an exhibit of poisonous dart frogs and battled some bears. He did all that just to get an antidote to save his brother from a poisonous funnel web spider. When the ambulance came he was in nothing but his socks and underwear cause the lion ripped his clothes off.

This was a fun read for the boys. It kept them entertained. Personally I think they ran into too many "sticky" situations and could have added a bit more on the plot. We haven't read the others yet but I imagine this is just a continuation of the adventures there. The end could have used a bit more as well. That being said, I still think it was a goodread!
