Just as he prepares to leave on a mission with his team, Shepherd Security Operator Brian ‘the Birdman’ Sherman receives a call from his brother, Bobby, pleading with him to come home to Louisiana to help him. Bobby’s been arrested again and needs Brian to help get him remanded into drug rehab, rather than jail.
Little does Sherman know that his brother is not being completely honest with him.
Brielle Jarboe is Bobby Sherman's best friend. She is a full-time Bayou Guide, part-time reporter who is chasing her dream of getting a job in the big leagues of journalism. She writes a blog on happenings in the Parish, a hard-hitting, real news, no-fluff blog that has called out people and businesses in the Parish and brought a lot of unwanted attention to herself. She knows something isn’t right in the Bayou, but she doesn't know that she has the story of her life, a story that just may get her killed.
Enter Brian Sherman and Shepherd Security.
Shepherd Security recruits only the best. They can protect someone in trouble like no other because they work in the shadows, invisible, and outside the system where the rules don’t apply–just the oath they took. They don’t exist. That’s also why they can break any suspect and can get answers out of anyone accused. That’s when they’re called in, when someone must be protected at all costs, or when answers must be obtained, by any means necessary.
Warning, this story is realistic, with adult language and content on the way to the HEA. This is book 6 in the Shepherd Security series. Even though the story does continue from book to book, each is a stand-alone story and can be read without reading the prior book(s), but they are best enjoyed in order.
Margaret Kay is a wife, a mother of two adult children, a grandmother, a pet lover who makes her own dog food from scratch, and a writer of Military Romance Novels.
Margaret's husband proudly served 8 years in the United States Navy. She's a veteran of more than a few deployments as the spouse who took care of the family while her military member served halfway around the world.
Margaret has given us a bit of everything to make this a page turner. There is action, suspense, drama, danger, tension, angst, emotions, secrets, and a hell of a lot more. Twists and turns abound that you don’t see coming.
The action starts right from the beginning and keeps on coming. It is also a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but this is one series you will get addicted too. It did take me a while to get into the story and used to Margarets storytelling but once I did it is easy to enjoy the stories.
Make sure to start at the beginning as characters do cross over. The stories are told through multiple POV’s as you really get inside the characters heads and know what they are thinking and learn who they are better. These wonderful characters are well written, complex, and fully realised. These alpha men and women are saviours and will do anything to protect those who they love and those who need it to fight against evil and those who wrong others.
Decent story as part of the series. Intrigue, action as expected.
I gave 3 vs 4 stars because of Brian's character. I liked him right up u til it seemed like he pushed Brielle to hard about having sex and then forgoing the condom without really asking. It felt more like he didn't want to listen to her or truly honor her wishes. It was forced sex but I was just disappointed in how he character developed and his actions.
...and always look forward to the next chapter. Brian & Brielle make a terrific couple and I was happy when they got together (although it was refreshing to see Brielle didn’t give in too easily) - but I just love how much all the Shepherd Security staff care about each other. Looking forward to book 7.
In its totality it was a good addition to the series.
I had issues with Sherman though. He did some pretty problematic stuff with Brielle:
why did the author have to write him like this? It wasn't necessary and lessened the enjoyment. He doesn't seem like a bad dude as a whole, but how he handled this aspect of their relationship is a problem and honestly, something that should be discussed in therapy with Lassiter because it was not cool.
That being said, the mission plot was more interesting that the last book. And at the end of this one it looks like it's setting up for a larger mission in the next. 👀
I have really enjoyed this series, and this book was no exception. Each story is unique, suspenseful, and intriguing. The only thing that I have an issue with is the guys names. When first introduced, it was by their call signs &/or their full name with the call sign. After the women started entering their group, they referred to each by their given names while the men continued with the call signs. Now, they're all referring to everyone with all names- ie. first, last, &/or call signs. It's difficult enough to remember everyone's names, either given or nicknames, especially for 4-5 different teams plus the other staff (which also has call signs too), but when you have everyone using at least 2 different names (sometimes 3 or more) for so many people, it's almost impossible to get it all straight. Especially when the same person is referred to by at least 3 different names in one paragraph. It just gets confusing trying to keep them all straight. Overall, this was a fantastic story/series. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Shepherd security angels books have been some of the best realistic tactical books with the romance twist . Each one of the angel books have a unique take on the individual members of Shepherd security. I especially enjoy this one having family that lives in Louisiana knowing how the Louisiana bayou has a way of life and a beauty of its own. I especially enjoyed how the teams engaged with each other and proved that family weather buy blood or not was number one in their hearts and lives. The relationship between our couple showed good chemistry, and loving attitudes. I have enjoyed this entire Angel series by Margaret Kay and I can't wait to read the next one
Brian ‘Birdman’ Sherman isn’t happy at all to get a call from his brother Bobby that he’s been arrested again, for drugs. But when Brian arrives, he finds, Bobby’s friend Brielle Jacboe is hiding on his boat, Brian’s interrupted from throwing her off his boat by the corrupt sheriff. Afterward Brielle told Brian about the sheriff’s behavior toward her since she’s been asking questions about a new company in the area.
Learning people have disappeared, are afraid to talk and foreign in addition to not living up to the campaign promises made by a politician, Brian wastes no time letting the office know and a team is quickly dispatched. Meanwhile, even Brian notices the odd behavior about the company. Rating:4.5stars
Loved the book. I love the Louisiana Bayou. I took a chance on the author and wow does she write an awesome book. Can't wait to go back and read the series. Margaret does a great job diving into the storyline and getting down to the nitty gritty of what the different agencies do and how they all work together. Not only does she write romance and adventure into the story but also how hard our agencies work to keep us normal people safe. Say thank you to the people who keep us safe. They don't even bat an eye when bullets go whizzing by them. It's just another day for them.
I loved this book and it may be my favorite! I’m from Louisiana and this book is mostly based there. I have to say this author got most thing right including the feisty woman, corrupt politicians and how close knit the people are. I loved Brielle. She is feisty, sweet and sarcastic. Brian immediately loves her booty lol and finds he like lots more as he’s around her. The Delta and part of the Alpha teams get called in when Brian finds a big problem in his hometown. This is one you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
As did the other books in the series, Bayou Angel explores the value of friendship, the definition of family, the importance of doing what is right, exploring a bit of the Bayou culture, all through the exciting lens of NVG's! The heroes are drool-worthy, varied, strong, sensitive, and sexy. Their ladies are intelligent, courageous, and strong - great female role models. Mixed them together, steamy Creole/ Cajun love!
This is a great series. I'm on to book 6 now. I love the camaraderie among this group. I love the strong women and men that are the characters. I didn't like that one of the men I don't want to ruin it by telling you who, didn't use the condom when the woman wanted him to. I thought that was rather selfish and rude. But all in all I love this book. Great job
I’ve read the previous 5 books as well as this. The author creates distinctive personalities for each character that are consistent throughout the series. I appreciate the limited sexual scenes and detailed emotional content. The missions are breath stopping. . The conversations between the shrink & personnel are poignant. My favorite is the warrior/preacher. His prayers and speeches are enlightening and inspiring. Looking forward to more in the series.
I love all the operational info given . I also like the plot line and character relationships that just keep getting better. My son served in Iraq and had gone through PTSD. I am so glad attention is given to this issue and the encouragement for therapy that is stressed. Good book!
Great characters with fantastic chemistry. I found myself reading some dialogue as if Cajon. Great full but also with that edge of danger and fear Margaret Kay is so good at writing. One request-- too many names especially since it jumped from first names to last names of the men then to combat nicknames. Needed a guide to match them.
OMG!! Exciting, intense and will keep you reading non stop to the end!! An awesome emotional story with some amazing chemistry between the characters!! It is full of ups and downs and twists and turns throughout plus lots of hot steamy sexy parts!! Definitely recommend reading this book!!
A great book to keep you on the edge of your seat. You must be a great friend to take the hit and end up in jail. Brielle is working a story on something that could get her killed. When Brian sees her, he takes her hoodie to get the cops off her trail. This is Brian's brother and he's the first call he makes. Plenty of action, danger and corrupt cops. HEA.
I love stories about bayous so I selected this book on Kindle Unlimited. Turned out to be a thriller although not a very scary one with a lot of romance! And it is well written. I have run into a lot of books on Kindle Unlimited that weren't. I sometimes think I 'll drop it. I want to read the whole series.
Operation Bayou Angel is a thrilling novel. Novels set in the bayou are intriguing and this one does not disappoint. I thought this was an insightful line by the author: “protecting a secret always trumps greed”. I wish though that more was written to tell us what happened with Tina and her baby.
I loved this book. Brielle and Brian keep the sparks coming off the whole time and the reader almost falling off the chair (or sofa). There is not much more I can say without spoiling it, so I will leave it at this.... You want action? Romance? It's here.
I have read all this series and I have to say they keep me on the edge of my seat. I love the action in each of the books. Love the family feel of the men and women in each one.
A good read...despite a lot of word and grammar mis-use
Wish that the editing and use of canned phrases was handled better......very annoying to keep running into the same errors time after time in language and word use.........
I’ve read this author since the first book and have loved every one. Series that are complete stories in each book yet updates you on couples you met before are like the best reunions! You can count on romance and edge of your seat action.
The ending was a real disappointment. This book had me turning the page after page with relish then we get near the conclusion and there nothing!! I guess I have to wait for the next book and that could be a year or sooner -- DISAPPOINTING!!
Margaret Kay has written very interesting angel stories in this series. They are well researched and engaging, and not too hard to picture the action taking place. You go girl!
Wonderful story again...loved the info on the bayous of Louisiana and Brielle a true Bayou gal. The story once again left me not wanting to put down the book even to fix supper...and breakfast or lunch!
Another exciting and romantic group of characters with a realistic storyline that kept me wanting more. I love how the previous characters are still part of the story, helping the new ones fit in as part of this group.
So glad I found this series. Happy love stories with lots of excitement. The characters being in all the stories makes you really feel like you know them. Wish there were lots of books in the series and I know I will enjoy the rest.
This is another very entertaining book in this series. I love the characters for their varied backgrounds, loyalty, strength, and love. This book is action packed and keeps the story flying by. Great!
