I love the series but...
I am not liking the way Galen is such a control freak, jealous, and clingy. Had the same problem with The Wicked Witches of the Midwest eventually as well but it's still great and a series I would recommend.

This is part of a paranormal cozy mystery series that I like. It's not all that memorable, but it's a fun read anyway. This one is about a fake festival (like Fyre Festival) that scammed a bunch of people and some associated murders. Many of the festival goers are witches, and they are all super pissed about being ripped off. The sheriff has to keep the peace with a very small department and his girlfriend is helping him investigate while learning more about her own powers.

So, here is the thing: I LOVE Moonstone Bay! Have since the first book, which made this book all the more disappointing.
First, though, let's talk about the story itself. It is another good mystery, not outstanding and not bad.
What made this book hard for me to reas was Hadley herself. Amanda M Lee makes her more and more obnoxious with each book. Hadley claims to love her boyfriend, but she intentionally makes his life harder and is entirely and completely unreasonable in her expectations.
An example that doesnt spoiler stuff. Galen has issues with a task he has to do the next day and Hadley wants to know why. He says he will tell her later and she constantly (!!!) pesters him about it. Even when Galen tells her they are just waiting for Booker so he doesnt have to explain things twice, she is mad at him for that, because he doesn't cater to her every whim right this second. She acknowledges he is tired, she knows he isn't well, she knows he has his hands full, and yet she cannot wait 10 mins until Booker arrives without being a bitch about it. With every book I read it becomes clearer that the author does not only have an issue with mothers, but also men.
The problem is that I still love Moonstone Bay, its characters and their (yet untold) stories. I just don't like Hadley very much anymore. She is a spoilt brat.

Witchy Murder
Awesome fast paced read with lots of snarky humor between the characters and great storyline , lots of of fun and unexpected surprises, plenty of suspense and awesome supernatural community

As much as they would love it, there is never a dull moment for Hadley and Galen. They're enjoying being in love, but they can't seem to catch any down time. One of the island's wealthiest residents, Alastair, has invited thousands of people for the Skyclad Festival. The attendees flock to the island, expecting lavish accommodations, and are shocked and angered to find it far below their expectations. While scrambling to salvage the festival (and avoid a riot), Hadley and Galen stumble upon a body on the beach. There has been another murder in Moonstone Bay, and this time Hadley is playing a larger role in helping Galen solve the crime. Although she is still learning, it is clear she is powerful, which unfortunately gains unwanted attention. When these two and their friends are involved, there is never any doubt that there is an intriguing adventure in store. Highly recommend!

So, this is going to be a bit scattered but...okay. I've read a lot of books by this author now, and all of the characters are the same. You could change them out and no one would even notice.
A lot of the the books have people flicking each other, noses, ears, arms, etc, like it's supposed to be some sort of sign of affection? I don't know, but flicking hurts. If someone tries to flick me they're getting punched in the face.
The main girls are always told how smart/brave/strong they are but I find them all whiny, weak, and stupid. And every male love interest is either a cop or has a military background. Like, why? Why can't the woman be the detective? Because the author is sexist even while her MC's tout about how much of a feminist they are. Yeah, you can totally be a feminist and want to be protected/taken care of, but when you SO is yelling at you for getting into "danger", saying he "forbids" you to do something, is going to "punish" you later, after screaming at you for your "disobedience", then you're a feminist in an abusive relationship.
Also, the guys all talk like "I need you to be safe." "I need you to stay here." "What were you thinking, I can't lose you."...they're all so selfish and only think about themselves, but the girls are like that too so I guess they're perfect matches that way because instead of saying "I'm doing what I feel is necessary, if you don't like it, there's the door." they try to distract them with sex and bacon and whine whenever they don't get their way.
Also, I hate when the girl is upset about something and they guy is all in her face about it. "Don't shut me out", "You have to talk to me." "We have to comminucate" "Why are you acting this way." "Talk to meeeeeee" And I'm like, "Give her some space, _________"! They would be so dumped if someone tried that with me.
Okay, that's a whole rant about all of the characters/series by this author. This book is frustrating me also because of the inconsistency. Specifically, in the first book, Hadley says she inherited money along with the lighthouse she said "Not buy a yatch money, but rent one every weekend money." Which, means it's a lot of money. And this was only a couple of months ago in the story. And now in this book she says she has less than $2k and is "dirt poor". So frustrating. Adding onto that, in one of the previous books she is told that the lighthouse is worth millions, but when her bf mentions that in this book she's all shocked, like she didn't know.
The continuity issues are a thing in every series with this author and it's really frustating. I would be mortified if I messed up just a little bit, I can't help but think the author just doesn't care because she messes up so freaking much and that makes me sad.
That being said, I will probably keep reading for now because I am curious how all the series are going to tie together, I like the side characters and the magic, and I like complaining.

The laugh-out-loud humor is still present but it is slowly getting overshadowed by various annoyances.
1) Not sharing publicly-known info with the female lead in order to avoid overwhelming her during the first few books was understandable, given she was completely new to the whole magic-is-real thing, but now it is just disrespectful and condescending.
2) The male lead's clinginess and overprotectiveness, given the female lead has proven she can pull powerful magic for any occasion out of her buttocks, is overbearing and sexist.
3) The continuation of the female lead pulling powerful magic for any occasion out of her buttocks instead of having her read the freakin' books upstairs and train with her grandmother on defensive and offensive spells in order to use them purposefully and intelligently makes her look lazy and stupid. (Her continuing to not at least learn basic wards to protect her home is especially driving me nuts.)
4) It is the fifth book yet none of the ongoing threads introduced in the first book have been built on, let alone tied up (examples: the association, cemetery, shark shifters)
5) The island appears to grow in every book.
6) The main plot's resolution is getting less intelligible and discernible with every book.
Am going to skip ahead to the book featuring the female lead's father to see, at least, if that is tied up in a satisfying manner.

I don’t think it’s possible for these books to all be written by the same author. If they are, she must have dementia. In the first few books of the series, May left Hadley enough money to live comfortably indefinitely, and Hadley was well aware of the value of her property. Not to mention she is Wesley’s heir and he is comfortably well off. But, in book 4 she becomes desperate for a job out of nowhere, and now all of a sudden she’s down to her last $2k and is shocked to learn the lighthouse is valuable real estate? Also, the overbearing, overprotective nature of the male characters is always incredibly sexist, and the primary female characters are infantilized, immature and somehow both complete idiots and “smart” at the same time. Hadley, much like the main female characters in this author’s other series, is whiny, lazy and ridiculously slow on the uptake. I had to give it two stars though because despite all of this, I keep reading the books. It’s like a Taco Bell addiction.

Scam festival
The book was well written. It's a fast read of pure escapism. Not very different from the other books in the series in that If you're playing attention you will solve the murder/ murders long before the sheriff and the witch .
My only complaint is that the main female character Hadley often acts like a toddler and then yakety yaks on that she and her partner need to communicate and compromise. It's very annoying.
I wondered more than once if this plot was inspired by the real life festival scams which have periodically made the news.
Overall it's not the murder, or it solving that's compelling or the motivation of the killer, or the "supernatural" elements that keep me reading this series but the unique summation of it all.
A fast fun beach vacation without sacrificing a bed or toilet or ever leaving home. All you need is to read this book or any other books in this series.

Stellar!
Hadley's witchiness knows no bounds! Her power and her self-confidence are proceeding apace as is are her relationships. Galen, Booker, Lilac, Aurora, May, Wesley, and even June are more than just foils for Hadley to play off. They all have dimension that is steadily being revealed which makes them more engaging for the reader. The mystery was amazingly well-crafted; I only sussed out part of the murderer, and even that was well toward the end. Here's hoping the newly revealed love interest for one of the characters becomes a permanent fixture; Hadley can use all the tutelage available, because the DDA is beginning to seem less and less benign...and of course there's the whole "meeting his mother" trial looming! This is an excellent read for anyone who enjoys likable characters, fun, magic and epic battles in a finely crafted cozy mystery!

Another good mystery from Amanda M. Lee! This was I was working hard to figure out on my own, and I had a few bits right, but some of it I was not expecting. I appreciate being kept on my toes!
When Galen suggested Hadley come work with him as a joke I said, "DUH!" How has this not been suggested by anyone before now?? If she's involved in investigations in every book, that would be an obvious choice for her to do for work.
One bit I'm concerned about is if her relationship is moving too fast. Some of the comments made about not being apart and getting upset if she's doing her own thing are worrisome and give controlling vibes. I truly hope they find their footing and he isn't trying to control her all of the time. I'm very weary of their relationship so I'll be watching carefully in the coming books.

Give me more
I love all Amanda’s books. I really like her character’s personalities and the way she always stay true to character. I really liked this book and the direction this story line is taking. I wish Lilac and booker were more prevalent in this one. I honestly like them more than main characters. For some reason there seems to be a disconnect in Galens and Hadley relationship for me?! I don’t know why maybe less relationship development than other series they seemed to just fall in place I need the angst from covenant or the uncertainty from Winchester Landon and bay. Their relationship is just missing that extra something. PS I’m rooting for Booker and Lilac to get together in a epic back and forth disaster to perfect relationship!! Please

Look no further for your next read.
Moonstone Bay has never been busier, well at least not since the Cupids left town. Hadley and Galen are truly putting teamwork and compromise to the limits as they forge ahead with their relationship. Scammers, influencers and mind reading lessons definitely get things rolling for the Skyclad festival. Hadley is in for several shocks in her "witch" education and being the girl she is, she just doesn't know when to leave well enough alone. Everyone comes out to play in this one and I had so much fun reading it and laughing until I cried at times. I can't wait until the next one. No spoilers and no reader restrictions for me to list. Have fun reading, I sure did.

This was a little different of a Hadley story for me. Witches descend on Moonstone Bay for a Festival being put on by a local Millionaire. Everything seems fine until the planner is found dead. As Hadley grows into her powers she's able to do more and help in different ways. When we find out who the killer is its a little weird but interesting and Hadley is able to save the day again with her magic. My only complaint about this book is, I wish we could've seen more Booker. Otherwise a great read with unsuspecting twists and turns.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. I do not, however, enjoy the main character. Hadley is nosy, invasive, stubborn, and pouty. She’s not ‘learning her craft’, she’s getting lucky.
And to repeatedly invade someone’s mind after you were caught just because you’re trying to figure out a secret? Mind your own business, maybe. She’d be furious if someone was doing that to her.
In the Death Gate and Caravan books, Izzy and Poet only go into a mind when it’s necessary to solve a problem, not to be a nosy witch.
I like the other characters so much but Hadley is a drain.

Hadley is a badass
Nothing not to love about a strong female character, especially when she's written with this much spunk. I love how the author weaves in normal, real life happenings with the supernatural this flawlessly. I'm very excited to read the next entry. I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series and following it through. You won't be disappointed if you like female leads, supernatural, witches, famous lore and snark!

The further on in the series I get, the more I’m enjoying it.
Finally got to see another aspect of the island thanks to the festival that was taking place on the island. Hadley’s powers are increasing at a rate on knots, and I’m wondering just how powerful she will be. Super Bruja, or perhaps a mage? She seems more power than Izzy, so I’m not really sure.
Loved the investigation, and the unveiling of the culprit had a great twist that I wasn’t expecting. Onwards to book 6.

I can't help but give all of Amanda's books five stars.
Yes, I enjoy them that much!. I believe I'm about to read the last book in this series and I'm heartbroken. I'll have to find another one of Amanda's series and hope I enjoy it as much. Lol. Witches demons shitters
Alistar Put together a festival which he really didn’t even come up with it with somebody else you come up with the idea. Nothing was as it was supposed to be no rooms for anybody nothing it was just a which is retreat. Then the murderer start and everything goes downhill from there. So it’s up to Hadley and Galen her shifter boyfriend and sheriff to find out what’s going on. Good book onto my next period

Hex Type Thing was really good. I enjoyed the heroines powers and I loved the plot line. The only thing that's frustrating is it seems like the hero doesn't tell the heroine things, and that they are constantly bringing up other women. Other than that, I really liked it a lot. And I'm super excited for more.

I really disliked Hadley in this book. I truly enjoy the Mythic Caravan series and this one started out well. Not a fan of the Grimlock series as I find Aisley beyond annoying. I should have known that Hadley was also going to get on my nerves when A showed up in the previous book and they became such good friends. Oh well, I will stick with Poet.

Funny reference in the story - “empty-headed trio.” What’s even funnier is that those very people…that very person, really, had quite the role in this read.
I like that Hadley is coming into more of her powers every day. She is becoming stronger, quickly. I liked what she had to come up with and act upon to catch the killer.

Good read
Book 5 has humor, mystery, murders, tons of magic, and a lot of sexual banter, but no sex. The villain or villains are not a new creature, but a variation of one. The island is overrun with a witch festival gone wrong and our hero and heroine must solve the mysteries and crimes. Highly recommend.

All of this author's books are sounding the same. The guy girl relationship conversations go seem the same and are repeated over and over in each book. More actual story would be great.

I just love this series! The author tells a fabulous story every single book, the paranormal acpects a great, and this one surprised me even as I thought I had it totally figured out. Definitely a five star book.

Another fun mystery with our favorite characters. I especially appreciated that Hadley saved herself this round! She also learns some new tricks, with hilarity as expected.
