Volume notes:
Ogata probably has the best character growth, maybe second only to Kirisu-sensei, and this volume establishes it. It's also center exam day, the end is very near. 5 stars.
Series review:
"We Never Learn" or #BokuBen is a comedy manga that draws its laughs from the interactions of the main character Yuiga with his harem, I mean, his classmates Fumino, Ogata, and Uruka. He tutors them, with a college scholarship on the line for him. There are also two other supporting characters in the periphery, teacher Kirasu, and recent alum Asumi, whose orbits sometimes cross into the paths of the main cast. It has the usual pervy tropes found in manga of its ilk, although toned down because of the high school setting. It was a manga I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did. It gave me that "finale high" which I associate with stories that get me as a reader.
One reason I probably enjoyed this series is the earnestness of the main character. One can't help but cheer for him. He's a good guy and hopelessly clueless sometimes, which is main component of his charm.
My rating for the entire series is 4 stars.

Finally make it to the national exam here! We get a good mix of all the girls, and we get to see Rizu being more bold, as well as Fumino vs Mafuyu. Theres also a chapter about Mizuki bringing Naruyuki lunch at cram school.
Not as much of a mixed bag as other volumes, but not much new either.

After many, many volumes, it comes time to hope that the title isn’t as literal as it used to be, as national exams are afoot. With most of the girls and Nariyuki himself heading to write them, there’s a lot of pressure and a lot that can still go wrong...
We Never Learn is nothing if not committed to its bit and its demographic. Despite this volume taking place during the colder months, there’s no shortage of fan service and awkward situations. Who needs the beach when baths and showers exist?
Fan service in this sort of series is like saying water’s wet, however, so what really informs my opinion every time I look at these is what goes on around it, and I have to admit that this is a cut above recent volumes.
There’s a really robust roundtable of stories here and they manage to give everybody something to do. The lead-in with Ogata is quite good as the Christmas story really helped revamp her personality and this one is actually super charming. She’s still definitely Ogata, but the little bit of extra expression goes a long way.
I don’t always love Kominami stories - it feels like they ran out of stuff to do with her ages ago - but the one here is a very relatable bit of business about exam luck and “wasting” any good luck you might have. This one is probably by favourite just because of how much they pile on the coincidences.
Between the actual exam day and the story that ends the volume, there’s a lot of great Uruka stuff going on as well and while I feel like picking a best girl in a harem series is as pointless as it gets, she and Nariyuki have a great dynamic and the last chapter is surprisingly poignant at the end with a rumination on loss and growing up.
Speaking of committing to a bit, Nariyuki’s sister gets a full chapter this time around and while my tolerance for brother complexes is low (though this one is admittedly the funniest example of that I have ever seen), I did enjoy this chapter - especially when it’s used to call out the absurdity of how many girls surround Nariyuki on a daily basis.
In general this volume’s a lot more self-aware than usual and I really appreciated that. I’m not saying this series ever takes itself that seriously, but I do think a little self-deprecating humour about the genre goes a long way.
3.5 stars, but y’know, even with the usual stuff that generally annoys me about We Never Learn, this was a cut above the norm for it and I genuinely enjoyed myself rather than feeling it was a chore. Sometimes that’s enough to get a bump out of me.

There's luck and stretching and studying and tests and rowing and injuries and curry and a dog... and none of it is in that order!
The girls are on their way to making their dreams come true (academically speaking) and the girls are all obliviously butting heads (romantically speaking). Let the rom-com march on before the inevitable parting of ways and tears.

This wonderful story adds a new volume, and some interesting developments occur!
Yuiga is one lucky fellow. Hes surrounded by gorgeous girls on every side, some younger, some older, some the same age, and all great catches! I wonder who Yuiga will eventually pick? Kinda like The Quint. Quints., everyone who follows this series is placing bets on who they think will finally win Yuiga's affections. My top choice is Rizu Ogata. I'll tell you why. In this volume she starts to actively pursue Yuiga, even changing her hair, clothes, perfume, and general demeanor in attempts to get Yuiga to see her as more than just a fellow student, friend, and someone he tutors. It definitely works, as they go on a date and Yuiga starts going crazy because of how beautiful Rizu looks, smells, and the alluring things she does. She really gets Yuiga's heart racing (and puts naughty thoughts in his head). Me, I REALLY like short girls. Even more so when they have cute short haircuts, and even more when they are thicc and curvy in all the right places (and Rizu DEFINITELY has it going on, I mean, MY WORD! Look at dat rack! Homina, homina, homiha)! So, she's my #1 choice. Now, while I think Asumi Kominami, Yuiga's Senpai at cram school is a total cutey, and a fiesty one, too, I don't see her being the one Yuiga ends up with. Also, Mafuyu Kirisu-Sensei is smoking hot, and keeps ending up suddenly in hilariously compromising positions with Yuiga, again just is not the likely candidate. Solely based on the fact that she's supposed to be Yuiga's and the trio's Sensei, and role-model. So I highly doubt she will be the one. As for Fumino Furuhashi, she's rich, she's smart, she's cute in a very regal and refined way, and she too is smitten with Yuiga, but she's not trying very much to get Yuiga to notice her in "that way", mostly because she's trying to play matchmaker for Yuiga and her old friend Rizu. Now my 2nd pick for who Yuiga is likely to pick is Uruka Takemoto. She too is smoking hot. That tan skin, graceful lithe body, and cute black hair make her another of my favorites. She has a leg up on all the other girls, too. She's Yuiga's childhood friend, and its already been made clear he has feelings for her (and certainly that she has love for him). The chapters ends with her and Yuiga on a quest to return a lost dog to it's owner, and after that excitement, Yuiga and Uruka end up alone together, in a row boat, lazily drifting on the water, and talking. They both express their happiness that Uruka has achieved a scholarship to a prestigious foreign college, yet it is a touching, bittersweet moment, as both realize how much they are going to miss each other, and both imply thoughts of loves & desires unsaid, with regrets attached to them. So, that's my run down. No matter who Yuiga does choose, he will likely be happy for the rest of his life. I just hope he doesn't give in to his brocon sister, Mizuki.
