James Alan Sandman was born in Richmond, VA (1956), third of four sons. After attending Middlesex H.S. (Saluda, VA) and graduating from Lafayette H.S. (Williamsburg, VA), he served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service for twenty years, retiring as a Chief Fire Control System Technician (Torpedo/Missile) in 1997, having served on five submarines, including the USS Newport News (SSN-750) which participated in Desert Storm.
Jim has an AA degree in Guitar Performance (Classical), and a BBA in Computer Information Systems. He has worked in the IT industry since 1997, including seven years at the Nashville headquarters of LifeWay Christian Resources in their IT Dept., and eight years with Amazon. He retired in May 2022.
He stays active in his community through three military veteran organizations and the Sons of the American Revolution (lineage society).
Jim is an avid reader, and his favorite authors include C S Lewis, J R R Tolkien, David McCullough, Mark Twain (a 2nd cousin), and Charles Schulz. From the Holy Bible, he gains inspiration and hope contemplating what Heaven and the New Earth will be like. Books about people who have had near-death experiences are especially fascinating. "Heaven is Like Eternal Sex" is his first book.
He has been married to his Navy wife, Kim, since 1985. They have two sons, two beautiful Tennessee daughters-in-law, and four very cute grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, Jim enjoys genealogy, history, coin collecting, jogging, reading, politics, travel, music and playing guitar. He and his wife live near Nashville, TN.
I have read Jim Sandman’s book, Heaven is Like Eternal Sex. When I first read the title, I was a little concerned that my friend had gone too far. However, as I read his devotional, I realized that Jim’s approach is similar to Jim Eldredge and Brent Curtis’ The Sacred Romance or John Piper’s Desiring God (Meditations of a Christian Hedonist). Both of these books had tremendous impact upon my life in the late 1990s. Even as I type I have a sign in front of me that states: “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”
Like these writers, Jim invites us to find completeness in Christ no matter what our hearts are seeking. Jim is not condescending but is very open about his own journey (i.e., chapter 12, “The Best High.”) Finding true companionship, freedom, hope, and home are all covered.
I recommend Heaven is Like Eternal Sex because it may change your life
I enjoy reading books about Heaven and this one does not disappoint. It will one day be my forever home. I already have family and friends there! This book reminds us of our ultimate hope, especially in these upsetting times we are living in. No more tears, no more pain! Jim talks about this and so much more and it is all backed up with scripture. I keep this book handy, when I’m feeling down or discouraged, I can just open it up,and start reading it, and I’m reminded of my mansion waiting for me. It is very easy to read. Please give this book a try, I’m pretty sure, you will not be disappointed!
This is a great book from Jim Sandman. It really puts Heaven into perspective from a worldly view. Heaven is always great and wonderful. I recommend getting this book.
I really appreciated this book. It helped bring me some peace over a lost loved one. The references are greatly appreciated. I had no idea so many people have published their near death experiences.
Most people seem to have a hope for Heaven but maybe not a good understanding of it. This book is well-written easy reading, using both Biblical examples and near-death experiences to explain all aspects of Heaven and the new earth that will be far more beautiful and fulfilling than we could ever imagine.
This is a great book to supplement or serve as a primary book for personal devotions for a period of 3 weeks. Each chapter has excellent passages supporting the topics which are all applicable to where we live, work, and play.

The one thing that I really loved about this book is that it opens up the thought of not disregarding faith and believing in something that you haven’t seen nor heard. And this book completely epitomized the whole idea itself.
If you are looking for a book that would surely give you insights into the whole Christian faith, this book is for you. It’s perfect for not only pastors, preachers, church elders, and new Christians...but also for the lonely, the hurting, the depressed, and the skeptic. This book is going to fill your heart with tranquility and happiness. It all points to God, our great giver. One who is greater than our fears and worries in life. One who loves unconditionally. And one that is almighty and powerful yet always cares for us sinners. This book simply melted my heart. I feel blessed for coming across a book as wisdom-filled as this one.
This book is mind-blowing. Every word gave me eyegasm, if that even applies. A different kind of surge of adrenaline ran through my veins the more I dug through the book and learned new things that I hadn’t heard and read before.
The topics were pleasantly delivered and arranged, and I got excited learning that a place like this even exists. It gives me hope that behind the sickness, deaths, and traumatizing news all over the world, there is a place more beautiful than the tropical island beach. And the good news is that we all can experience this joy that the author describes in this profound book about paradise. Such a living hope to know in this unprecedented time. I am happy to recommend this book.
Heaven Is Like Eternal Sex by Mr. Jim Sandman comes with an enthralling concept, excitement, adventure, and joy in this new paradise. It arouses the basic idea that there is hope beyond the pain and struggles in this world.
The collections of stories about heaven from the people with a near-death experience and the bible verses fit the topic very well. Moreover, this book is not just about heaven and beyond; this book fosters love and forgiveness. It guides the reader to learn about true love and what it is like to love God and other people. From beginning to end, I could say that a healthy dose of pages from this book is surely going to power up your day. I would definitely recommend this book to other people.
I wonder how great God’s love is to humanity that He gave up His own Son, and He is now sharing His beautiful kingdom with us humans, sinners, and those who have fallen. This book simply epitomized the whole story of redemption. It gives me a new perspective, not just about the physical nature of heaven but what life could be in heaven.
I also love the fact that the author sprinkled profound verses found in the scripture to testify heaven and what eternal sex meant. This idea really captured my attention, and I’m glad I read this book. The answers were in-depth, and the message of this book is very unique to the Christian faith. Overall, I enjoyed reading it, and I highly recommend this book to anyone.
