The truth lies in what she can't remember. There is another who harbors her unspeakable secrets. Meeting her is where the danger lies. On a dark January night in 2019, Gloria finds herself behind the wheel of a car, beaten and covered in blood. She has no idea where she’s coming from, or where she might be headed. After pulling to the side of the road, she begins to fade out of consciousness. The next thing she experiences is waking in bed next to a man who should be her beloved fiancé, Rick. However, she soon discovers it is her dangerous ex-husband, Charles, whom she thought she had escaped two years earlier, in 2017. She eventually finds that the year she was woken to is 2003, and she is living her life with this abusive man all over again. Due to the abuse she endured, Gloria suffers from dissociative disorder, which has stolen the memories of her two young daughters growing up. There is another who holds these memories; the Other Gloria. She thinks maybe God has given her a do-over, and she might be able to do better, stay present, and recover the lost memories of their childhood. She knows, to do this, she must escape Charles once again. Gloria’s plan for escaping this time around includes finding Rick, who doesn’t know she exists in 2003, but she soon comes to the realization that meeting Rick will not be enough. She knows she must do the one thing she never wanted to do – meet the Other Gloria and finally discover the unspeakable secrets she holds. For those who enjoyed The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors, or The Wife Between Us.
Villafane has managed to write that type of story that keeps the readers on their toes the whole time and, just when they think they have figured out what’s going on, bam! An amazing twist shocks them out of their comfort zone. Just brilliant!
This book started out with a bang- Gloria looking down at her bloodied hands in the driver seat of a car, wondering whose car this was. How did she get there? What has she done? That was just the start of my many questions and Gloria's.
This book kept my mind constantly trying to piece together what was reality and what might be Gloria's reality. Dealing with severe abuse at the hands of her ex husband Charles, she tended to "blank out" certain parts of her life, in an effort to cope with what she has been through. It was fascinating how she subconsciously was able to do so. So you can imagine my surprise and terror when Gloria wakes up in bed next to Charles.
Alternating between chapters titled "before" and "after" I constantly was trying to figure out- before what and after what??? As we learned more and more about Gloria's rocky past I began to wonder how this was going to play out. Was she really back with Charles? Was she dreaming this? Gloria was living in a constant state of terror trying to figure out how she got back to this time in her life. What happened to the new life she had made for herself?
A book that kept me guessing to the very end. An interesting book that portrays how the struggles of an abused person dealing with dissociative disorder can struggle to know what is really reality. I found myself wondering if Gloria would make it out alive.
Thank you so much to Suzy Approved Book Tours for having me along on this tour! Thank you to L.A. Villafane for a signed copy of her book!
Gloria awakes in the driver’s seat of a car. She’s badly beaten and has no idea where she is. She goes in and out of consciousness.
Next, Gloria wakes up next to her ex-husband instead of her fiancé, Rick. It appears that it’s now 2003, and she’s reliving the abuse she experienced with her ex, Charles.
Gloria has dissociative disorder, and the key to getting away from Charles is to find Rick sooner rather than later. She also must meet the Other Gloria, the one who holds all the secrets.
The Other Gloria definitely kept me guessing. It’s uniquely its own story and felt so real and engrossing. I loved all the timelines because they kept me analyzing everything that was happening from all angles.
Overall, I found The Other Gloria to be a thoughtful and heartpounding mystery. I was rooting for Gloria the entire book.
This was a complex compelling story that made my brain work. I am still contemplating what was really going on in the story. Lost memories, dreams, A do over? The story starts off with Gloria in a car she doesn’t recognize, on a road she’s not familiar with, covered in blood. Then Gloria wakes up in bed next to her abusive estranged husband Charles 16 years in the past. Is she going to have to live through the nightmare again, or is this a do over opportunity? The book bounces back-and-forth between past and present, with chapters 2003 labeled after and 2019 before. An interesting concept that was very well executed, I was never lost or confused. I was wanting Gloria and her girls to have a better life and get out of that abusive situation, but at what cost? Gave me a lot to think about, I was in an emotionally abusive marriage for years, would I have left earlier knowing what I know now? My biggest regret is the impact it had on my kids, most of which I did not realize until I was out of the situation. Gloria‘s thoughts and feelings about the abuse and her abuser were so relatable, I think the author really had a good understanding of how someone feels when they’re in that situation. There is so much self blame and I completely empathize with Gloria as she struggled through it all. I am not certain I would call this a thriller, it was more like a puzzle. A puzzle where the pieces didn’t all fit, but I was satisfied with the outcome.

*** Big thank you to the author for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***
The Other Gloria is a remarkable debut psychological thriller by author L.A. Villafane, it’s addictive, gripping and an absolutely absorbing read.
Gloria comes across as a totally realistic character that is a victim of spousal abuse, it was eerie how real the story felt reading it. The reader is taken on Gloria’s wild and torturous journey as someone who has dissociative disorder. People with dissociative disorders use dissociation as a defence mechanism, pathologically and involuntarily.
The story begins as Gloria comes finds herself driving a car and speeding down a dark highway, it seems familiar to her but she has no idea where she is driving to or from. As her car lights up from an oncoming car's headlights she sees what appears to be a massive amount of blood on her hands. She pulls the car over and stops, turns on the interior light to inspect her hands and to her shock there is so much blood, she is drenched in it......This is Gloria's emotional and fascinating story with a surprising twist at the end.
A compelling and powerful novel that I couldn’t put down! Loved the cover and loved the title.
I wish to thank the author L.A. Villafane for a copy of The Other Gloria to read
To begin with I found this book a little confusing with the changes in timelines. Once I got my head around that it was a great family drama I would call it. I felt for Gloria, a strong woman beaten down.
Thanks to the author for the audio code prize. Very enjoyable listen!
This book started with a shocking scene and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through! This is the sort of book that leaves you unsure what to say about it… Whoa! What? Those are some of the reactions I had. Tense and tautly wound, don’t skip this book!
Opening with Gloria in the driver’s seat of a car, staring at her own bloody hands, this book has a wonderfully disorienting quality that pulled me right in. The timeline is almost reversed here, because of the narrative structure of the book. In 2019 Gloria finds herself speeding down the highway covered in blood. She doesn’t remember why she is covered in blood (is it hers??) or how she got in the car (did she hurt someone??).
When she blacks out and comes to, the year is 2003 and she is beside her abusive ex-husband Charles. The narrative alternates between 2003 and 2017, when she meets Rick Gaines, the man who will be her fiancé in 2019. This was quite a trippy timeline to be caught in! Gloria finds herself wanting to take the opportunity to leave Charles sooner in 2003. But then if she leaves him in 2003, she won’t meet Rick in 2017 and end up engaged in 2019.
What a web of fate and torture this is! As it all happens, a psychologist is helping Gloria work through these “dreams”, which she suspects may actually be memories that Gloria has compartmentalized through a dissociative identity. Complicated and gripping doesn’t even begin to cover this book!
Charles is a total monster. The dark psychological thriller was balanced around a plot of deep and hidden domestic abuse. Charles felt at times inhuman, lacking any sort of sympathy for what he was doing to Gloria. Gloria herself handles this nightmare with surprising steadiness that can only come from a person who has learned to suffer at the hands of an abuser like Charles for many years. She slips into her wifely role, all while dreaming of ways to escape.
Another layer of complexity were Gloria and Charles’ teenage daughters. Gloria has to be careful about how she manages her husband, knowing that she needs to protect their girls. The maternal side to Gloria and her relationship with her daughters was a beacon in this book for me, as was her future relationship with the supportive and kind Rick.
I don’t want to say much more and spoil the book and the ending, but I want to give some insight that may help your confusion (if you are anything like me) when you start this. The chapters titled “before” refer to 2017 and are written in past-tense. The “after” storyline is the one in 2003 and are written in present tense. Once you figure that part out, the story clicks right into place.
This one kept me guessing the whole way through! A truly twist-y psychological thriller that blends the complexity of abuse within the broader suspense novel. A stunner of a book!
Thank you to Suzy Approved Book Tours for my spot on the tour. Opinions are my own.
On a dark January night in 2019, Gloria finds herself behind the wheel of a car, beaten and covered in blood. She has no idea where she’s coming from, or where she might be headed.
And than finds herself in bed with her ex-husband, Charles .. a man she ran away from 2 years earlier. Charles was disgustingly abusive ... mentally, physically, sexually. She has woken to the year 2003 and living her life all over again with this monster.
In order to cope with her husband her mind takes her away during the abuse and the "other Gloria" takes her place. The 'other' Gloria has continued on with her life. She knows she must do the one thing she never wanted to do – meet the Other Gloria and finally discover the unspeakable secrets she holds.
This is a very complex story .. jumping between two time lines .. the one happening now and the one that has already happened. Jumping back and forth in time keeps your attention riveted to the page.
This is a well written psychological thriller that has twists and turns at every corner. Just when I thought I had it figured out ... Boom ... another of those twists that sent me to an entirely different thought process. My imagination kept trying to see what would happen if a person from the past met the same person in the future. Mind boggling! The ending came as a surprise.
Many thanks to the author / Empire Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of THE OTHER GLORIA. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Do you have “another side?” A “Sasha Fierce” or alternate personality that comes out in certain situations?
My husband would say yes. Her name is Cranky Kate and you probably don’t ever want to meet her.
When Gloria realizes she is covered in blood, speeding down a dark road, and no idea why – she starts to wonder if it’s her dissociative disorder, or something entirely more sinister. You wonder the whole time – is Gloria dreaming or just having one of her black outs that happens when she tries to cope with trauma?
But the next morning after all that craziness, things really get weird. She wakes up next to the abusive ex husband she thought she left years ago. Even more strange? She’s woken up 15 years in the past.
Imagine spending years, being mentally and verbally abused by the most dangerous of husbands – finally leaving him – only to wake up one day, to find you have to do it all over again. Will she do things differently? Will she make it out alive this time?
Start me off with someone covered in blood with no memory, and throw in that Groundhog Day aspect – and it’s pretty safe to say I read it in one sitting.
The ending had me questioning everything I read and I am still not sure what happened. But I’m totally OK with it, because it was just so unique and twisty and riveting, that my confusion is totally satisfying!
A heart breaking psychological twister. Gloria suffers from dissociative disorder. She has memory issues and gets lost in time and place. She also lives life on pins and needles with an abusive husband who's rage is horrific. Gloria does her best to shelter her two daughters from it. I really liked and felt deeply for Gloria, who through it all is courageous and triumphant. I really love how it ended. Note: Before you read this look up dissociative disorder. You have to understand what it is to fully feel the effects of this novel. Also, the author pulled from her own experiences with dissociative disorder to create the character Gloria. This was one powerful and deeply felt debut.

Wow! What a unique and gripping page turner. I just finished this book and I’m still grappling with the two Glorias. I absolutely adored the characters in this book (with the exception of Charles) and found them all completely relatable. I also loved the mix of romance that was intertwined with this compelling story. I love a story with a strong female character and this definitely delivered. I think I actually want to read it again. I would certainly recommend this one!
"The Other Gloria" is about a woman named Gloria who suffers from dissociative disorder. At the very beginning of the book she wakes up in her car to find she's covered in blood with no idea where it came from. Then, she blacks out again and she's suddenly in the past. She realizes she's reliving her abusive relationship with her ex husband. She has no idea what's going on; neither does the reader.
From here the book is told from 2 perspectives. One of the present Gloria who is reliving the past, and another from Gloria in the future/present. (It makes sense when you read it. I promise!)
The overall premise of the book was fantastic. I found it very unique. The abusive relationship was very spot on for men who "gaslight" and emotionally abuse. Haven't we all had one of those insecure, overbearing men before? Ugh. The story was great.
My main issue was the writing. It felt so stiff. It really threw me off. I wanted more ease and flow. It also got slow in a lot of spots and I had a hard time getting through it. This is a new author and I believe she could write really amazing thrillers in the future. Her imagination seems really fun. I loved the mental health aspect. Overall, I give this 3 stars. It's a good story, the writing for me just needs to be a little more worked out.
What I Loved: The mystery that surrounded this story was captivating! I was so interested in what had happened, what would happen, and in what order. The way the story was told had me moving through the book as fast as I could!
How I Felt: I found this book to be very interesting. The story is told jumping back and forth in time, but also between two timelines; one that had happened and then one that is happening now. I can see how it could become a bit confusing, so this is a good story to take a little slow until you understand the “before” and “after” concepts that the author is using. Don’t let this deter you, the story is amazing! I loved that we start in the current timeline at what would be the end of the story, then jump back in time.
To Read or Not To Read: If you enjoy psychological thrillers or mysteries, this is an excellent book for you! I found that once I had started this book, I had to keep going to see what would happen next! It was a great read!
What’s This Book About Anyway? Gloria wakes to find herself in a car covered in blood. She has no idea how she got there or where the blood is coming from. The next thing we know, she’s waking in a bed that she realizes is her own, however, she’s with her husband that she has been separated from for two years. She seems to have slipped back in time and she doesn’t really know what to do. She has memories of taking her two daughters and leaving her husband and yet she has woken to find herself remembering the future, but living in the past. She has no idea what is happening to her, but finds that all she can do is move forward in this timeline until she figures out what is going on and why she is here.
I was provided a copy of this book through a giveaway and am leaving this review voluntarily.
A huge thank you to L.A. Villafane for sending me an ARC of her book “The Other Gloria” which releases in October!
The book begins in 2019 with Gloria behind the wheel of a car, badly beaten and covered in blood. She has no idea what has happened to her and must work hard to uncover lost memories and secrets. This book was quite a journey and I really enjoyed reading it.
One thing I enjoyed about this book was the multiple time lines. I personally like when a book jumps around in time and I know sometimes it can be confusing, but it works for this book! Jumping forwards and backwards added so much to the story. We see Gloria in many different years; from 2003 all the way to 2019.
Another thing I liked about this book was Gloria herself. She is such a perfectly flawed character that I was rooting for throughout the entire story. I was so proud of how strong she was despite everything that happened to her.
I would definitely recommend checking out this psychological thriller. It was an intriguing read that held my attention all the way through. Give it a read!
This was the author's debut novel. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This book was written beautifully. This book had me hooked from page 1 as I followed Gloria enduring everything, and watching her attempt to remember lost memories.
Lori took a very complex topic to talk about and did a fantastic job of describing things in great detail, giving you insight on what it was like for Gloria in daily life.
I was mentally invested in this. I absolutely enjoyed reading the thriller aspects this book had to offer. I read this 308 page novel in 2 days. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a fast paced quick reading psychological thriller!!!!
My rating: 📕📕📕📕🔖 (4.5 stars)
*Trigger Warning* -This book revolves around disassociative disorder. If this triggers you, please proceed with caution.
The plotline in the summary drew me in immediately!
An excellent read. Although Gloria goes back and forth from 2017 to 2003 a number of times, LA Villafane manages to keep the story clear and concise. The reader wants to know what happened to Gloria on the road "that night". And the possibilities continue to grow.
Gloria's ex-husband, Charles, is portrayed very well - yet he is a character you really hate. I wondered how she didn't try to leave him even sooner. Yet, married at 17, Gloria was not quite able/ready to be left alone. - especially when she had two daughters.
As the story continues, there are many twists as the reader (and Gloria) continue to wonder how the time switches are able to take place. Does she have a second chance at life? More importantly - why?
Superb.
Many Thanks to Empire Publishing and NetGalley for a rollercoaster ride!
The Other Gloria is an intense, page-turning, psychological thriller with spousal abuse and all of it's repercussions at it's core. This book was such a fantastic read! The book jumps between two time frames- 2003 and 2019, and essentially between 2 different people- 2003 Gloria and 2019 Gloria. Dissociative Disorder plays a huge role in the plot- hence the two Gloria's. But I was never really confused in what time period I was in and with which Gloria. I think the author took a huge risk with the time jumps, but it was executed flawlessly and the risk definitely paid off! She represents Dissociative Disorder quite accurately to the best of my knowledge and makes total sense as to why Gloria has it. The characterizations between the 2 Gloria's is excellent and fascinating. The suspense is palpable from the very beginning and does not let up to the mind blowing end! If you like a thriller that keeps you on your toes and the edge of you seat, The Other Gloria is a must read!
3.5 ⭐️ Overall, I really did enjoy this book and it does have a way of keeping you constantly turning the pages. I found the storyline to be unique in that it switches back and forth between “before” and “after”, but they are reversed. “After” is 2003 since the main character Gloria is reliving her past. The time jump did end up getting a little confusing when reading. You do get a sequence going and catch on, but towards the end some things get a little mixed. For a debut book it holds its own very well. It’s a story about facing fears and finding your own bravery within. I recommend giving this book a chance and checking it out in October.
This is a wonderful psychological thriller that I did not want to put down. What would you do if you could relive some of your life over? Would you redo the same bad decisions or would you be brave enough to fix some of your life. This book answers some of these questions and does it in a masterful way. I loved the characters, especially Gloria. Gloria learns a lot as she seems to relive her life. I received a copy of this book from Smith Publicity for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Thank you @lavillafanewriter for my copy of this thriller! This was such a great story, with great characters and found myself laughing out loud with them at times. And the ending made me happy! Gloria has dissociative disorder, and not being able to remember things leaves her feeling ungrounded. Not being able to mentally latch onto something concrete, and the fear of the unknown is terrifying for her! I definitely recommend this book!
The Other Gloria is a FANTASTIC , well written psychological thriller.
The story is written with enough twists to make your head spin! I was hooked from page one!
I really enjoyed the author's writing style and story telling. There are two distinct storylines , one in the present and one in the past and the back and forth is so exciting.
The characters are complex and well fleshed out.
This is an intense, complex psychological thriller. I enjoyed it so much!
In January of 2019 Gloria comes to while driving a car, she’s covered and blood and feels like she’s been beaten. These blackouts aren’t new to Gloria, she suffers from a dissociative disorder due to trauma and abuse by her ex-husband Charles. Gloria wakes up in bed, but everything is wrong. It’s 2003 and she is with Charles. She should be with her new fiancé Rick. Her children are small. She’s in her old house. She doesn’t understand what’s happening. Maybe this is a second chance, but she won’t make the same mistakes twice. She needs to get away from Charles.
I really enjoyed this book. It was well paced and dealt with concepts I don’t delve into very often. I found myself questioning which portions of the story were real. It is billed as a psychological thriller. While it does have aspects of a good psychological thriller, for me, this books was more family drama.
I listened to this book on audio. The narration was good. However, I wouldn’t recommended this one on audio. The book is told in alternating time lines, before and after (2019 and 2003). I found myself confused and having to relisten because I kept missing the switches.
This is a great debut novel and I am looking forward to more from L.A. Villafane. A great choice if you’re looking for a quick read with an ending that packs a punch.
3 stars. Thank you to the author for a copy of your book in exchange for an honest review. This book starts off with a bang and does have a satisfying ending. But the middle was a bit confusing at times for me switching between the “before” and “after” dates. I was confused (but curious) to find out if this was all just a dream or if she was maybe in a mental institution? I am not very knowledgeable on dissociative disorder so that may also be why I was often confused. I think it was a good debut novel and would recommend it for someone who may have more experience with this disorder.
This was a whole new twist on psychological thrillers! Usually the author tries to deceive you by withholding information but in this book the protagonist suffers from dissociative disorder. She really can’t remember anything! She’s in a toxic marriage where she suffers emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her husband. It was a slow burn thriller but still a fun read. I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must be to live life like this and there’s actually a great article written by the author. The link is in her profile. A must read!
If you are looking for a book that will pull you in right away, this is it. This book starts off with Gloria driving down a dark twisty road and all of a sudden she realizes she has blood all over her hands. The other kicker, she doesn’t know what car she is in. When she wakes up the next day, she wakes up in the past next to her abusive ex husband. Talk about a nightmare. This book goes back and forth from the real past and the past she is currently living. I couldn’t wait to finish this up and see if Gloria would end up changing the future and what the end results would be. This one was definitely different than the other thrillers out there in a good way and worth checking out.
Did you ever have things happen that were so bad you wanted to disconnect from the world and forget about it completely, like it never occurred?
This is exactly what happens to Gloria when her abusive husband is in a rage. At some point, when things are at a peak, 'the other Gloria' takes over - someone she doesn’t know and has never met, but holds all the keys to her real life.
January 2019, Gloria finds herself covered in blood and badly beaten, driving a car she is unfamiliar with and not sure where she is or where she is going, until she blacks out. Next scene is Gloria waking up in bed next to a man, wondering how she got there. Expecting it to be her fiancee Rick, she finds it is her abusive ex-husband Charles. WHAT IS HAPPENING??
It appears that Gloria has woken up in the year 2003 and is back living with her husband, the man who abused her and who she thought she escaped a few years back. HOW?
Because of the severe abuse, Gloria has developed what’s called dissociative disorder, which causes her to find all her memories of her very young daughters are completely gone. But there is someone else who holds all these memories and its the 'Other Gloria', the woman who takes over when the abuse is so severe and at its peak, allowing Gloria to somehow get through and survive the wrath. Through this odd relapse back to 2003, Gloria thinks she has been given another chance, an attempt to stay in the present and find 'Other Gloria', regain all her memories and get back to Rick and 2019. All while enduring Charles’ abuse all over again. And what about all that blood?
This book was a page turner, I was totally absorbed and blew through it in one sitting. The only thing going through my head was a jumbled mess of thoughts like “how does this all come together, which timeline is the right one, and if Gloria doesn’t even know what is going on, how the heck am I?” The story is told in dual timeline, going back and forth from the 2 lives Gloria has lived, one in 2003 and one in 2019 and each story line is captivating. All you keep wondering is “how is this all going to play out?”
I’m not sure what to say, I loved this book, it was unputdownable, but in the end I realized that I don’t know any more than Gloria does, and I’m just as confused. ND IT WAS BRILLIANT. My mind is still throwing questions left and right, and now I need to read more about dissociative disorder. Its amazing what the body will do under stress to survive. Lori Villafane has debuted with an original thriller of a story that deserves to be read.
I just would like to thank Lori Villafane, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours, and Empire Publishing (#partner) for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.
The story was very interesting and fresh, I haven’t read anything like it before; it feels very authentic. I enjoyed getting to know Gloria and her daughters. The jumps between time had me confused at times and I felt myself losing interest often. I think it’s because I just couldn’t relate to Gloria or her situation. I’m glad I read through to the end, it was nice to get the closure.
3.5 What would you do if you found yourself back in time, and had the ability to redo your life? Gloria thought she escaped her old life with her abusive husband but after waking up one morning, back into 2003 she realizes somehow she is back in the past and next to her ex-husband. This is a story that is constantly switching timelines, so you really have to pay attention to the dates or you might get lost. I think the best way to describe this book is unique, I dont think I've read anything like it before. I loved the switching of the timelines, we got to see how she was in 2003 and in 2019. Gloria decided to make the best of her time travel, she is going to do things right this time and do better for her children. Except, why does she keep having the same dream, the dream of being trapped in a small place and why in 2019 was she found covered in blood that wasn't hers? What was reality and what was Gloria's reality led to so many questions, questions that only, the other Gloria can answer. This a fun psychological thriller, the ending was completed unpredictable because honestly I didn't know what year was real, what memory was real, or if anything was real. ⭐⭐⭐.5
Some sidenotes: If you don't pay attention to the timelines this is going to be a very confusing story for you. This isn't a bad thing per-se, but I have a strong thing for names being used too often and Gloria was said wayyy to many times, that I started laughing whenever it came up😂. The conversations at times were super stiff, but not to the point that it derailed my reading. All in all, this was a solid debut novel!
Wow. This book was a tough one to read. I mean this in the absolute best way possible. @lavillafanewriter tells the story of Gloria, a woman who suffers from dissociative disorder due to the abuse and stress caused by her awful husband. “The Other Gloria” is another version of herself who holds all of her memories that she’s blocked out due to her disorder. The story starts off with a bang, as Gloria is driving in a car, covered in blood, and she has no recollection of what happened? It is her blood? Or someone else’s? She loses consciousness and wakes up as herself, sixteen years earlier! It truly broke my heart to see what Gloria had to endure. Her husband was a real piece of work and she did everything she could to please him, until she didn’t.. and that’s when things got wild! Gloria was a perfectly imperfect character who I grew to really love and was cheering and hoping that things would end in her favor. After reading the story, I learned that the author also suffers from dissociative disorder while this story is fictional, many of Gloria’s experiences are based on her real life. How brave to share your story with us, @lavillafanewriter. I feel honored to have read this one! Thank you to @lavillafanewriter and @suzyapprovedbooktours for having me on this tour! If you have Kindle Unlimited, The Other Gloria is available for free!
This book starts out so strong! Gloria is driving, but doesn't know how she got there. There is blood on her hands and face and she doesn't recognize the car she is driving. How did she get there? What has happened to her? Why can't she remember? Ooh...intriguing! Gloria wakes up to it being sixteen years earlier in 2003, sleeping next to her verbally abusive and controlling ex-husband, Charles. She thinks what happened in the car is a nightmare. Or was it? The timeline switches back and forth between Gloria in 2003 and Gloria in 2017-2019. In 2003, she is still married to Charles, but in 2017-2019 she is engaged to a wonderful man, Rick. I figured out the "before" chapters in 2003 was actually her present self and the 2017-2019 "after" chapters were the past. Does that even make sense? I am not sure, but it made sense to me as I was reading. The ending was crazy and I am not exactly sure what was real and what wasn't. What exactly happened? I have questions and am a little confused, but I am okay with that, because the whole book was interesting and confusing. Thank you to Suzy Approved Book Tours for having me on this tour. Thank you to L.A. Villafane for the signed copy of her book.
It's January 2019, Gloria finds herself driving in the middle of the night, badly beaten, covered in blood, and with no recollection of where she's going or where she's coming from. In the next moment, she wakes in bed next to her abusive husband, Charles, whom she had escaped from 2 years earlier, and the year is 2003. Due to the years of abuse, Gloria suffers from dissociative disorder, which has caused her to miss out on years of her daughter's lives. Now Gloria is wondering if she was somehow given a second chance to to take control of her life and get back the years she missed with her daughters.
I really enjoyed this book! I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it wasn't that! The story is told in chapters of "before and after". 2019 is the "before" and 2003 is "after". Gloria is a strong and likeable character. It wasn't as fast paced as I usually go for, but that didn't keep me from wondering what was going on and what would happen in the end. I was really curious to know about what Gloria was experiencing and went from 48% to finishing it in the past day, so I could know. Definitely recommend!
