The ambush is in place, he takes aim, and shots ring out. Chicago is officially on notice, and a siege is underway on the city’s men and women in blue.
Assigned to the task force investigating the shootings, Jesse McCord and twenty of Chicago’s top-notch detectives work day and night to track down the sniper whose agenda is apparent—to kill as many police officers as possible.
Getting in front of the crazed assailant is the only way to stop him, but without a name, a face, or a witness to the shootings, the police department is chasing a ghost.
As a profile evolves, Jesse is struck by the realization that he and the sniper have much more in common than anyone could have known. It’s the epiphany he needs to stop the shooter, and a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins. Taking on the killer face-to-face, and single-handedly, is the only way Jesse can protect his colleagues and end the siege on his beloved Chicago—the city he calls home and always will.
C.M. Sutter was born in San Jose, California and split time between the sunny California coast and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she chose Wisconsin as her permanent address. After many years in the Badger State, she decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved south. Years of progression took her from working in large companies, to twelve years as a massage therapist, and finally, owning a corporation. She has been self-employed for over twenty years. Ms. Sutter has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
Just your average, entertaining read. Not quite as good as the first book in Sutter’s Jade Monroe series, but still good enough to continue the series.
Jesse McCord has potential and given the Chicago P.D. setting it was enjoyable. There were some simple mistakes throughout that shouldn’t have made it past the editor. I’m just nitpicking but expect future books in both series to improve.
This book dealt with heartbreak and it’s effect on the human mind. That part was well worth thinking about. Especially in today’s environment.
Interesting plot and entertaining. The way the story was built was amazing. The vigilante trying to serve justice with his actions was brought out well and the readers could understand that very well. However, the second half of the story was slightly predictable. Otherwise, the fast pace and the action of the book kept me sustained till the very end.
The early part of the book does a good job of keeping you in suspense. But after the big buildup, you almost miss the climax. And the story goes on and on and fizzles out.
This book immediately pulled me into the story. I started it before bed one evening and before I knew it, I was five chapters in. I have a busy schedule, so reading doesn’t come as easy these days, but I finished the entire book, 50+ chapters, in three days. There were so many moments where I felt that we would learn who the Sniper was, but each time, something happened, preventing the identity from being known. However, when I learned of the motivations of the Sniper and who it turned out to be, I realized how obvious this type of scenario turned out to be. However, it didn’t affect my ability to enjoy the story.
I won’t spoil it for viewers. What I will say is to read the book instead of the audio. While the narration was good (I switched between the two) I found that visualizing my own voice for the narrator was better than the audio version I heard.
Pretty standard police procedural. Detectives in Chicago's south side looking for a sniper who has been killing police officers. Sniper leaving a false trail gives the detectives some work to do.
Another one of those great books that hook you from the moment you first start reading. You can't put it down then all at once your done but wondering when is the next book.
I really liked this book. It grabbed me from the start & didn’t let go. Very fast paced action. I’m definitely going to read more books in this series!
The Chicago Police Department focuses on a perp who is killing their own. A very personal threat to detective Jesse McCord results in a dramatic finish.
A first book book from this female author from me, and good to read number one in the series, although bad to read another 12 books to catch up on.
This is a well paced action thriller from the start, clever, well written, and clear to follow, just the right amount of pages to keep you gripped throughout.
In the heart of Chicago, an ominous ambush unfolds with shots echoing through the city's streets. A chilling siege has been declared on the men and women in blue, and it's up to Jesse McCord and his team of detectives to unearth the sniper's deadly agenda—to eliminate as many police officers as possible.
With every passing minute, the assailant eludes their grasp, leaving behind nothing but death, fear, and uncertainty. The only way to stop the relentless attack is for Jesse to unmask the faceless killer— even if it means playing a high-stakes game of life and death.
As the investigation unfolds, an unexpected revelation sends shockwaves through the case, revealing a connection that hits closer to home than anyone could have imagined.
Now, Jesse McCord is on a collision course with the sniper, a one-man crusade to safeguard the city he loves and the brave officers who protect it. Chicago's fate hangs in the balance as this gripping thriller hurtles towards its electrifying showdown.
This book is a police procedural almost to the point that it could be a report given to the prosecuting attorney for trial. The author needs to develop his characters more; make them alive and realistic. The details in tracing and arresting a rogue cop killer were authentic and contributed a motivation to read to the end. Since this book is the first in a series I would suspect the author is working hard on improving future books.
When four patrol officers who responded to a 911 burglary call are gunned down at the alleged crime scene, Jesse McCord is called in to investigate.
Detective Jesse is with the Violent Crimes Unit of Chicago PD’s Wentworth station. He has been back from his sick leave for six months after a dirty cop held him captive and drugged him for a week.
Soon after, two more cops are shot after responding to a bogus 911 phone call. The detectives now believe the perp holds a grudge against law enforcement and they start questioning witnesses before the killer strikes again
I’m a big fan of C. M. Sutter’s novels. I’ve think I’ve read every one of her books, and will read the second in this series next..... Ya know what? She keeps getting better. Every book keeps your attention from beginning to end. She doesn’t skip all around and then bring it together at the end. Nope you’re hooked from the beginning and the story goes uninterrupted from there until the end. This on has a really despicable culprit, who is very smart and unpredictable. Lots of police detective work, and a killer who is always two steps ahead. Great ending. You will not be sorry you tried this one or any of her books. SuiteT
This is the first book in the Jesse McCord series. I enjoy the way C.M. Sutter hav woven exciting stories about characters that are met in previous books. This is one of them. Jesse was features in the Kate Pierce book #1 and now he has his own series. This is a revenge killing series of crimes focused on law enforcement and EMT personnel. The story is fast paced and in a way sad, as the reason for the revenge could have been prevented. You will like this book!
One of the best crime stories I've read. The outcome REALLY makes you look at the way police and EMTs have to handle things, but it also shows there is always room for improvement. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes crime stories from a realist view to all law enforcement and, EMTS as well as firemen. They all face dangerous jobs, but there is always room for improvement. Great read!??
A justice thriller that will keep you reading to the end.
I did love the book and it did keep me locked in and reading to the end, thanks to the health crisis. As a retired state trooper I found that the detective was very incompetent in securing the house. No police officer ever enters a suspects house without his gun drawn and with caution, as the two detectives entering from the garage. But this is a book that has to be read.
Not a bad book. Not a great book. (Sorry). I figured out the antagonist too early in the book and while I read it to the end I don't think it was gripping enough to continue the series. A "read while you are waiting at the dr's, the railway station etc.
This was one amazing story. Usually this type book has a story, that although interesting, is pretty much the same as all the other similar stories. This was different, the plot kept you guessing for the first two thirds, then the final third you get to understand what caused the crimes and makes you at least understand how the perpetrator thought. You then wonder how you would handle a similar situation. Read the book, you won't be sorry you did.
I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't particularly long, but I flew through it. I liked the main character, Det Jesse McCord, and the secondary characters were also great. The story was impressive too: a disgruntled inhabitant of a Chicago suburb has a vendetta against the police and goes on a random spree, calling 911 and then shooting the responding officers. We follow his story and Jesse's work to find and stop him.
I've read most of the books written by C.M. Sutter, and I've really enjoyed them all, but the best of them was "Sniper's Nest: A Gripping Vigilante Justice Thriller". The many twists and turns kept the reader guessing, and I found the characters realistic. and the plot fascinating... I anxiously wait to begin the next book in "The Jesse McCord Police Thriller Series"...
When I picked up Sniper's Nest and started reading the first chapter, I had no intention to sit up all nite. By the end of the chapter there was no choice..I couldn't put it down untill I finished it. It was cover to cover action. I would recommend it to anyone who likes police high action procedurals. I'm ready for the next in the series.
The lead character is cop you instantly feel for whose grief is laid bare. He is not infallible and makes poor decisions but knows he does which makes him real and the story covers a far too frequent course of events in this modern day
This felt like a book someone wrote and self published as an e-book because no one would publish it. The main characters were as dumb as the proverbial droppings from a dog and the whole sudden Rea;isation of who the bad guy was was equally as ridiculous. Terrible writing and silly story make for a inept book. Just bad! CM Sutter #1 Jesse McCord #1
The rating was well deserved. I especially liked that the chapters were not repetitive, the way the story line was straight it allowed me to be an agent, characters were real, the injuries, the meetings were all real.
Yes, I would recommend these novels to other readers like myself
I have been reading a book a week for the past 2 months. Sniper’s Nest was by far my favorite, if for no other reason: the story line. I like when the shoe is in the other foot just to see how other people react. Also I like the fact that the book was proofread. I despise seeing too many grammatical errors in a book. So we’ll done, Mrs. Sutter.
Imagine the effect of a sniper who seems to kill indiscriminately on a city, and on the police force charged with stopping the terror. A realistic look at how the working of law enforcement can respond to a situation like this.
But it is not just a police story, but an intricate tale of detection and human interaction. The solution is satisfactory, and the ending very dramatic.
Great to have a tense plot filtered with a touch of humor here and there A good read when there is a or twist A thumbs up when the book ends well but isn't Hollywood ending
