This book means a lot to me, since it is the biography of my name sake. It was nice to be able to get to know the woman after who my mother chose to name me. Honored to share her name. The book is accurately detailed. I particularly enjoyed the pictures and the inclusion of personal letters and the time line.
As I former Army Nurse (1975-1995) I really enjoyed this book. I could certainly relate to many of Sharon’s experiences and feelings. While I think many might consider the book “dry”, it certainly tells her life story very well. It pays tribute to her life as well as all of the nurses who served in Vietnam.
I enjoyed reading this well written book. Even though the Vietnamese Conflict occurred during my lifetime I had no friends or relatives who served in that war. It’s a great historical summary of the history and politics of that time and the impact they had on a young dedicated military nurse. I got the book through Interlibrary loan. The book is very expensive to purchase.
A good s book but I wish there were more personal details. More pictures, handwriting or something like that, so that you can get closer to the person of Sharon. This creates the feeling of a relatively sacred biography like a life run. which is rather overloaded with historical background.
This is the story of 1st Lt. Sharon Lane, US Army Nurse Corp, who served and was killed by enemy fire in Viet Nam. Many women served in Viet Nam. I appreciate reading their stories and seeing their contributions finally recognized.
Liked that it covered a Canton native experiences becoming a nurse, serving in Vietnam and her tragic death. But it was very dry. Never felt a connection with Sharon, her family, friends or fellow medical personnel.
