I was born in Hamilton New Zealand. My passion had always been writing. Yet life just seemed to get in the way. Somehow career choices always came first. I met a man who I was to spend the next 34 years of my life with. Sadly I lost my husband to cancer last year. It was the reality of now being on my own that I decided the time has come to write. The funny thing is I can't write directly onto my computer. Every time I log on I seem to waste such a lot of time. I surf the internet, check on Facebook, play chess anything but write. The answer to my problem was close at hand. I simply open an exercise book and armed with a pencil the words come. I love it because I can sit outside in my garden or go to the beach my story is always with me. I love the fact that a crisp blank page is suddenly filled with characters taking a journey of discovery. My husband and I moved to Whanganui six years ago. A beautiful city on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It was here that we found out my husband was terminally ill. I now live alone with three cats, and my German Shepherd dog Rosie. My life is full of adventures, mayhem, and mischief but when you get to my age, anything is possible. I enjoy reading, fishing and sipping cocktails on the beach with my girlfriends. Whanganui is a vibrant city. Fantastic and friendly people live here. I am lucky to live near the sea. The majestic Whanganui river gently flows past my door. One hour’s drive from Whanganui are three beautiful snowy mountains all volcanic. Yikes!!! connect with me online Facebook Profile: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... What an ending to such a delightful, if not a bit heartbreaking, series. Viola is quite a bit like her sister widows in that she loses her husband and acquires quite a bit of money. Well enough to buy herself a sweet little house overlooking the ocean in Birch Harbor. While reading this wonderfully written story, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop; because, well you know it's going to happen but you don't know what it's going to be. I honestly wasn't waiting for this to happen though.
Viola, who was working as a dishwasher at a casino, was married to a man who gambled away every cent he could of what she brought home. When he dies and she leaves Vegas and makes her new home in Birch Harbor, she meets a man. Not just any man but a doctor who also happens to own the home she wants to purchase. Deciding she will not allow a man to treat her as she is nothing and to not listen to her, Viola stiffens her spine and tells the doctor she will not wait, she wants to purchase the house now. He tells her he will bring the signed contract with him when she meets him for dinner. She does go to dinner with him and after they tell each other their stories, they fall into comfortable conversation and have a few laughs. This is their beginning. She feels alive again and agrees with Marshall that her husband is dead and she is alive and should live that life. Their feelings grow over their time together and you know that they are perfect for each other, but still wonder when that other shoe will drop. And it does.
I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed this series of short stories about women who have lost so much but then gained the lives that they were meant to live. The supporting characters in these books and the description of the little town make you wish you could visit this place, and maybe even stay awhile longer.
If you love short romance stories, please do not pass this series up. I highly recommend it.
Every book in The Widows of Birch Harbor are short(ish), which tended to cut things off a bit too quickly at times. However, Viola packed a HUGE emotional punch, so I was off and running. Of course, Viola's story is the last in this very addictive series by the talented Nancy George, and frankly, I really don't want it to end. Viola, like the other widows, lost her husband who had some big flaws, and found herself moving to Birch Harbor. Trying to buy the place she wanted brought her face to face with a doctor named Marshall, and he really annoys her at first. Finally, she agrees to dinner with him so she can get the contract signed, and she never thought they would be able to connect like they did, enjoying each other's company so much. This is the beginning to something amazing, as feelings are getting caught. However, it felt like the something would come up, you know, the other shoe to drop, and yep, it did. That was the twist which got my f-bombs dropping. I know you want to know what happened, what that twist was, and how the whole series ended, so yeah, hit your one click button to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
The Widows of Birch Harbor share loss of a spouse as a common bond. Several of them lost more than one spouse or loved one.
They also share a determination to go on with their lives. Their rebuilding enhances the amazing Birch Harbor community, and filled their hearts and homes with love and babies, alongside loss and more challenges.
Viola is a survivor of a series of bad situations, and is faced with more loss trying to work up to a new life.
Thank goodness for the charming and lively four legged companions who find their way into the lives of many of these women. Cats are amazing and clever, and truly skilled at being aloof or cuddly when they want. There is little that compares with the unqualified affection and devotion of a loving dog.
I enjoyed the sometimes melancholy, yet still encouraging collection of all six Birch Harbor widows’ stories.
Hope you enjoy them too !

Viola has to work hard because her lazy husband won't. He prefers to gamble all day, hoping to hit the jackpot. And he finally does. Right before he dies, leaving Viola over $26 million. Holy cow! She wants to leave Las Vegas, so she plays eenie meenie miney mo with the map, and blindly chooses Birch Harbor. She has a run-in with a doctor who's selling the house she wants to buy, but they resolve that issue and begin to date. Her conversation with the three women about why Marshall would want to date her - absolutely priceless!! This book has a bittersweet ending. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the books in this series - well written short stories about six women with two things in common... And I'm sorry to see the series end.

This is the sixth and final book in this series. They can be read as standalone books but I think they should be read in order. Viola is like the other widows in birch harbor in that her husband died and she received some money. Enough to start over in Birch Harbor. Now she is starting over. The house she wants to buy is owned by a doctor who doesn’t actually seem all that interested in selling. Viola is tired of being treated poorly by men so she takes matters into her own hands. She confronts the doctor and he agrees to bring the papers to dinner. They find that they like each other. Knowing the series so far, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and it does, but not in a way I was expecting. I loved this series so much. Each book was on the short side but wonderful reads. There is romance, danger, and more. Great job Nancy.
Another quick story in this series and the final story. Viola went through a lot but also had a windfall to make her life easier. She stayed positive despite all the unhappiness that followed, and I enjoyed her journey. I also enjoyed how the series wrapped up in this book. For quick reads, I recommend this book and the series.

Viola is the sixth and final book in the Widows of Birch Harbor series. This story is both heartbreaking and emotional as Viola deals with the aftermath of her deadbeat husband's death. This is a short story that is wonderfully written, touching, and engaging.

This series does not disappoint!! These widows have been through so much and continue to gain friendships and get their second chances.
Viola is no different. Along her journey, she meets some animals and people that help encourage and make her life brighter. She gets her happy ending and makes you smile and your heart happy!!
This was quiet short but still packed a big story, this time its Viola and her story is so emotional it's one of the saddest in this series. Have loved this series it touches on the good, bad and ugly and let's us know love is out there.

“Viola was such an intense and emotional story. The Widows of Birch Harbor share a loss the only they can understand. Viola was a survivor of such awful situations and she had to work hard. It was a quick story but also the final of this series. This was a heartbreaking story full of emotions. Once again this was a journey to find a happy ending.”
This is the sixth and the last novella in the Widows of Birch Harbor Series. Viola's story is emotional, unpredictable, and heartbreaking. I love the ending. I enjoyed reading this story and Series.
