This magnificently illustrated book reveals the architectural and decorative details of life at the top in Manhattan. More than 100 line drawings of floor plans and over 100 black-and-white photographs as well as fascinating mini-histories detail the vital statistics on 73 of New York City's best luxury apartment addresses.
Fascinating floor plans! I found myself looking up these places on Google street view to see what they looked like today. And this book contains the best architectural burn: when discussing 910 Fifth Avenue, the author notes that “Its present appearance is unworthy of pictorial documentation” 😲
Very interesting. However, it lost a star because many of the floor plans are hard to read, and on many that show multiple apartments per floor, it is difficult to tell where one apartment starts & another ends.
Many of the floor plans are hard to read but they are originals, from as long ago as 1869, so you'll have that. It's extremely impressive they were able to be found at all. It's a fantastic resource for how NYC has changed over the course of the last hundred years or so.
