Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan (Malayalam: തുഞ്ചത്ത് രാമാനുജൻ എഴുത്തച്ഛൻ, Tuñcattŭ Rāmānujan Eḻuttacchan) was an Malayalam devotional poet and linguist from around the 16th century. He is today known as the father of Malayalam language – the principal language of the Indian state of Kerala and the union territory of Lakshadweep – and it's literature.
Ezhuthachan was born in Trikkantiyur, near the present day Tirur municipality, in south Malabar in an under-privileged sudra caste. After the birth of his daughter, Ezhuthachan became a monk and wandered throughout southern India before finally building his monastery at modern day Chittoor, Palghat.
Ezhuthachan's contribution to the Malayalam language is widely considered as unparalleled. He brought massive changes and standardisation in the language through his works. He translated the two Hindu epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, to Malayalam for the common man with the mingling of the Sanskrit and Dravidian languages.

In our state in Kerala it is the long term tradition that to read Adthyatma Ramayanam during the month of Karkkadakam (malayalam month). However, I have never attempted this book before. I thought this Karakkadakam month I will make a try. I tried and I succeeded. Yes, I took a little more than one malayalam month. But, I am so happy that eventually I have completed this epic poem. The poem, part of the Hindu mythology is originally believed to be written by Sage Valmiki. The version I read is in Malayalam and was was written by Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan who believed to be lived during the 16th Century. Moreover, Ezhuthachan is considered as the father of Malayalam language and his contributions to the enrichment of the language is immense. The accomplishment of read this poem is so special to me because now I can say with pride that I am a true malayali. A must read for all malayalees.

Yep...deal with it. There's nothing much you can do about it. Just live a "virtuous" life.

I don't think this book needs any review or recommendation. Having just finished reading this book, it is no surprise to me how this book has managed to be read daily for more than 400 years, at most homes where I come from (including my grand mother and great grand mother). Truly a masterpiece. I have never spent more time on any other book (this is a reflection of my weak vocabulary and not necessarily on the book). I got the version published by the Guruvayur Devaswom Publications. Unlike other publications, this one also covers the Uthara Ramayanam part. It has a good hard bind that can stand daily reading. It has the quaint classic trademark of all Guruvayur publications, a coin sized Guruvayoorappan image on every page. I got my copy from the Guruvayur temple store. I think the following site also sells this book online (https://www.exoticindiaart.com/book/d...). That said, the book is cheaper at the temple store. I would recommend reading this book to anyone who can read malayalam.

The Holy book I used to read as part of the Ritual in the month of 'Karkkidakam' as per the Kerala tradition . Loved the simplicity of the concepts and wonderful stories of Ramayana written in Malayalam .

A perennials source of values, morals, ethics, insights. I read it (actually recite it, in a devotional setting) in the month of Karkkadakam (Ramayana month in Kerala). It's also a deep dive into the vast ocean of Malayalam vocabulary, facilitated by the beautiful poetic prowess of the Father of the language himself.
