WARNING: May Contain Egyptian Gods, Werewolves, Power Armor, and a World Ending Apocalypse
A pyramid predating all known cultures appears without warning. Its discovery throws into question everything we know about the origins of mankind.
Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed it heralds the end of our species’ reign.
A plague of werewolves spreads across the world. A sunspot larger than anything in recorded history begins to grow. Yet both pale in comparison to the true threat, the evil the werewolves were created to fight.
"It's like Indiana Jones went through the Stargate and ended up in Aliens versus Predator." - One of the author's totally biased friends.
This collection gathers No Such Thing As Werewolves, No Mere Zombie, Vampires Don't Sparkle, and The Great Pack. It's over 1,500 pages!
By day I am an iPhone developer architecting the app used to scope Stephen Colbert’s ear. By night I am Batman. Ok maybe not. One can dream though, right?
I’ve been writing since I was six years old and started inflicting my work on others at age 18. By age 24 people stopped running away when I approached them with a new story and shortly thereafter I published my first one in the Rifter.
Wait you’re still reading?
Ok, the facts I’m supposed to list in a bio. As of this writing I’m 38 years old and live just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the beautiful town of Mill Valley. If you’re unsure how to find it just follow the smell of self-entitlement. Once you see the teens driving Teslas you’ll know you’re in the right place.
I live in a tiny studio that I can cross in (literally) five steps and don’t own an oven. But you know what? It’s worth it. I love developing iPhone apps and if you want to work in San Francisco you accept that rent for a tiny place costs more than most people’s mortgage.
If you and about 2 million other people start buying my books I promise to move out of Marin to a house in the redwoods up in Guerneville. No pressure. Wait that’s a lie. Pressure.
I saw this box set of the Deathless and had to grab it. I had just finished enjoying book one so this was a no-brainer for me. My review for that book is here: [1] https://www.audible.com/listener/A2BO... [2] Volume two opens in the pyramid. There’s been a stowaway on board for eleven-thousand-years! This hitchhiker has dreamed of this moment for millennia. Dreams that if successful, will grant him a seat of enormous power, and the ability to raise an army to build a kingdom. He escapes but is pursued by Blair, Lisa, Steve, Bridget, and Jordan. The first wave of the CME blankets the earth, leaving behind a failed power grid, satellites, communications, and transportation systems while producing enormous fires. The second wave of the CME strikes several hours after the first, affecting billions of people around the globe. The second wave is foretold to produce apocalyptic results. Surprisingly, this is the very reason for which the werewolves were created to prevent. The priestess, or mythological goddess, Mother is also known as Isis, who woke from her cryogenic sleep in the pyramid, is the progenitor of the werewolves. The hitchhiker, known as Irakesh is a powerful Deathless. The plot thickens and gains complexity as the story unfolds. The remaining survivors on earth, the werewolves, and Mother must prepare for what is coming next. [3] Volume three picks up after the defeat and capture of Irakesh. With the defeat of Irakesh, Blair absorbed the tremendous power that Irakesh had accumulated making Blair that much more powerful. Blair, Lisa, Jordan, and Trevor feel they can now focus on the Deathless and the zombies. They make preparations not only to combat the Deathless and the zombies but also to protect the remaining human survivors of the virus. The devastating effects of the CME now come into play. The Mohn Corporation had prepared power sources and were protected from the CME so it was hardly noticed in the previous volume. The situation has changed. The escape of Steve and Irakesh will come back to bite our furry friends. Steve still has the Ark key extorted from Blair. How Blair neglected to retrieve that key when Steve was seized is beyond me! That will turn out to be a colossal error. Trevor finds himself trapped in the Ark of the Cradle, located in Egypt, and forcibly enlisted in Ra’s pantheon. To Trevor’s surprise, Irakesh and Steve are also in attendance. Doubly surprised, Ra is Irakesh’s mother. Several deities of the Egyptian Pantheon make an appearance and each plays a role; Isis and Ra aka Sekhmet of course, Osiris, Set, Sobek, Anubis, Anput, Imhotep, Horus, and Wepwawet. Vampires also enter the stage. They were left behind to prepare the world. Many of them died off as the power diminished, yet some sired progenies and passed down the legacy. They are at odds with Osiris. A growing suspicion is that Osiris is behind a power failure within the network of Arks, and has been secretly plotting the domination of the world. Is Osiris guilty? If such a scheme does exist, could it be stopped? Just one of many questions to be answered. A rumor that Set, the criminally psychotic deity, is alive and seeking revenge. If this is true, Set has had millennia to gain skills and power and would be a formidable adversary. The plot thickens once again. [4] Volume four begins five years after the destruction of the First Ark, eliminating the southern third of England. Ra, Isis, Osiris, Anubis, Anput, and Set are presumed dead. Mark Philips, the Director of Mohn Corporation had been captured earlier by Set. Upon waking from the blast in the presence of Hades, Mark aka Set-Dun aka Nox realized he just didn’t feel like himself. LOL Blair, Lisa, Trevor, Irakesh, and Commander Jordan suffered the effects of “temporal-spatial dislocation” due to the massive explosion, waking up five years into the future. Our pack of furry friends led by Ark Lord, Ka-Dun Blair must discover where they are, who survived, who has risen to power, and what has taken place in the past five years. Isis had given the access key to her Ark to Jordan in case she didn’t survive the fight with Set. Ra aka Sekhmet gave her access key to Trevor. They were both now Ark Lords along with Blair. Jordan heads to Peru to assume ownership of the Ark where it all began, and to recruit werewolves for the coming war. Trevor and Irakesh head to South America for the same reasons. Lisa holds down the fort while Blair light-walks to the Ark of the Redwood in San Francisco. Have you heard of the fabled Lost City of El Dorado? So has Nox. People have searched in vain for centuries. What part does it play in this tale? The story branches out once again, introducing a Wendigo; “the evil spirit that devours mankind”. “According to the legends, a Wendigo is created whenever a human resorts to cannibalism to survive. Other versions of the legend cite that humans who displayed extreme greed, gluttony, and excess might also be possessed by a Wendigo.” The creature is extremely powerful and intelligent and is being used with great success to break the spirits of human survivors and werewolves alike. The CME, the virus, the resulting Deathless apocalypse, and numerous monsters and demons herald the coming of The Builders!
Constant Escalation of Finding New Powers Spoils the Story a Bit
Fortunately the heroes occasionally do a bit to earn part of that power. Still there is not much time spent using that power wisely or strategical or tactically. It's mainly about imbalances in powers and constantly falling behind and being out maneuvered. Games of catch up in and endless race for more power. That being broken on average about once or twice per book. So the story and action could have been better with fewer Mario style power ups.
This story is a great way to explain zombies, werewolves and supernatural powers. Not to mention connections to Egyptian mythology! All these themes blended together with characters you can empathize and sympathize. Well done! Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Werewolves and Vampires and Gods and Aliens Oh My !!!
The Deathless Quadrilogy was an absolute blast and I literally could not stop reading from one book to the next. It began as a simple exploration of a sudden Black pyramid to the end of the World as we knew it. A great read that I highly recommend.
Must get the follow on books! Absolutely, this was fabulous reading. Its hard to invent something totally new, but I think this author, with this series has done just that.
Chris' xynthesis of multiple layers of myth, history, & scientific fact makes this set a fascinating & deeply engaging journey into potential truth, with mostly excellent character development. A masterpiece.
A great mix of legends, myths, snd horror. Doesn’t grasp at straws to make it fit to bring it from a fantasy to a modern take to a sci fi twist. A definite good read.
One of the best series I have found on Goodreads. Character development is excellent and the plot grabs you and doesn’t let you go. No repetitive story lines from book to book, though story line holds true. Can’t wait for the next book!
I haven't read a more interesting series in a while, but you have jumped to the top of my list of authors I want to know more about. You have created a totally new take on how history may have developed. I look forward to reading more about the builders and their plans for our heroes and villains. Keep up the good work and get more for me to read. Meanwhile I have to read some of your other work.
A great apocalypse box set that has a realistic story. The mix of supernatural and Devine characters world well. The battle scenes are believable and thrilling. I would recommend this series to any apocalypse adventure fans.😀
A great series using the old tales and writing a new twist to them. From a simple professor, with a checkered past, to a being only metioned in nightmares, the story develops to a towering ending!
Why are American sci-fi authors so obsessed with guns and monsters? This started well but degenerated into the all too familiar story of people becoming monsters fighting other people. Very tedious - sorry, but I can’t recommend it at all.
Vampires, werewolves, and zombies combined with a dose of Stargate. Great read overall with a reasonable increasing power progression. Looking forward to the next book.
Mistakes: Averaged about two per book. Plot: Coronal mass ejections, vampires, werewolves, and zombies. Oh and aliens. Characters: Side characters drop like flies.
This is the First novels I've read from Chris Fox and I'm quite impressed by his skill. I've never been in to the werewolf / deathless type genre reading or visual media. But it doesn't take long to get hooked.
The usual bad spelling and grammar, I didn't get the point of changing Ra's gender, or combining him with another woman. Could have been much better as it did have poten
