There were so many storylines to this trilogy that I really enjoyed, but I feel like most, if not all of them, ended very rushed. This is of course down to the fact that the storylines are spread across three seventy-something-page comics, which in my opinion is waaaay to short for the kind of story they were going with in this trilogy.

Also, in regards to the whole Asami-brainwashing thing, I kind of wish they would have written in more angst lmao. Like, at least make it have some kind of consequence for the future stories.

"I wanted so badly to wield power and change the world, I didn't concern myself with the consequences."

OMG... this was just as beautiful as I had hope it would be.

It gave the perfect ending for the whole ordeal, sure, but, more importantly, it treated my girl Kuvira with all the love and justice she deserved.

I really fell in love with her character. Her growth and character arc are some of the best things ever. She was compelling at every moment of her journey and I felt her and understood her and she managed to make me feel so many things.

I just love her.

The fact that she shines through this comic just makes me so happy. She deserved it.

Kuvira and Su definitely stole the comic for themselves and made of it what they wanted. Which turned out to be something gorgeous.

Of course, everything else was solved accordingly and neatly.

"You took me in when I was a wild, arrogant little girl and cared for me when no one else did. There were so many times over the years when you could have abandoned me, but you never did, not even when I was at my worst."

I'm so not ready for this to end.

Part of me has absolutely no desire to read it because once I start it is gonna have a very near end. The other part of me is so intrigue and needs to see what will happen and how it will end.

It's a great feeling.

3.5/5 - This installment seemed a little rushed unfortunately, but I’m pretty happy with how they handled this sequel from the original series. But I absolutely needed more Korra and Asami, hopefully there’ll be another series in the future!

Actual review: 4.5

I loved the conclusion to this comic series. Even though I found it a little bit rushed towards the end, the story was interesting and action-packed. I love the characters and to me, their individual journeys made sense. I believe that is the biggest compliment I can give a series that takes over from a completely different medium.

This story could have benefitted from an additional edition so that the pacing is done right, but that’s more of a preference rather than a criticism. The redemption arc, for instance, could have been drawn out a little bit more.

Regardless, I look forward to many more adventures of Avatar Korra. I love being back in this world. And I love reading about my favourite characters over and over again.

Keep the comics coming!

Ruins of the Empire, Part Three is an interesting close to this Legend of Korra series. I was really pleased with how the democratisation storyline played out and Wu's speech contrasted well with his speech in Part One. As for Kuvira's ending, that's definitely more polarising and my gut instinct was to question it, but I can see why things happened that way and the value in it. Part Three also had some really great art!

*4.5

Well, that was very good.

And my Mako/Wu ship is set in stone now, so that's great.

I feel like, after all that Kuvira did, this series is working really overtime to redeem her, but she's not an uninteresting character to follow.

I just feel like, as did the ATLA comics, these comics always tend to focus overtime on the romances and not the friendships. It's honestly pretty annoying, but it hurts to say that I don't care about the LoK team as much as the Gaang so I didn't care so much about the absence of character moments.

I did enjoy this series, though, more so than the first one. Apparently another trilogy is confirmed, so I'm looking forward to that. 4.5/5 stars.

(c/p from my review on TheStoryGraph) These have been a really great addition to the LoK series. I like the way this comic wraps up a lot of things, I also love the subtle way they allow Korra and Asami to be sexual without making it even a little bit ACTUALLY sexual. I know that LoK is not everyone's favorite in the Avatar world but these comics continue to prove to me that there is so much that is interesting to explore in the LoK world and that the characters are worth getting to know and explore.

TW for this book include: Brainwashing/Gaslighting, mild torture, political unrest

This was mostly Kuvira-centric and I have no complaints. A satisfying end to the series but I still wish there was more!

Really great end to this storyline, has a good mix of cute moments with all the characters and wrapping up the political plotlines from the first two volumes.

Once Asami has fallen under Commander Guan's brainwashing Korra goes beside herself. Everyone has to flip their switches to prevent the Earth Kingdom from falling into shambles. All the while the one person who once called herself the Great Uniter might be scheming something. Or perhaps there is something else at at stake?

First off it took me forever to pick this up because of my dreadful reading slump and I wanted to go into this book with a clear head. I was already a hundred percent convinced that I was going to love and cherish this, which is precisely why I put this off for so long. Now that I finally did get around to it I feel like I'm being hugged by sunshine. That's how much these characters mean to me and how much love I have for this world.

Now it's time for me to go into a more lengthy review.

This basically starts with Asami being under the mind control over Commander Guan as the Election for the Earth Kingdom is underway.

This shattered my heart okay.

This is exactly how Bisexual people sit and I can vouch for this.

That heartfelt embrace had me do an ugly sob face.

Honestly every time they simply touched was something I treasured. I might be biased haha.

They've just grown such an extensive amount as a couple and I'm totally here for it. I wish we could've seen that while the show was still airing, but to get to read about it through comics is the best as it can be.

All I'm saying is: Korra's face!

Also Asami is more than welcome to toss me onto the ground. I'd let her. She doesn't need any bending to be fucking OP!

All the couples yup.

And the last picture of this review but just look at them. Character growth right there and a healthy and supporting relationship. What more can we ask for?

In truth this comic was mainly focused on Kuvira and her search to find redemption after she has brought the Earth Empire to shame with her crimes. It was refreshing to see that Kuvira was granted the chance to find herself and redeem herself in the most outstanding way. It was what she deserved. Those final pages regarding her arch had me grinning though that was exceptionally endearing if you'd ask me.

As much as I love Kuvira so so much… she shouldn’t have been put on house arrest as her sentencing. I understand that she felt guilty and remorseful for her crimes but sis was a FACIST LEADER. She enslaved many people and forced them into labor camps, destroyed buildings leaving multiple to be displaced and homeless, attempted murder AND actual murder, etc etc.

And from that, all she got was house arrest?!? Because she helped Team Avatar clean up the mess that she started ??🤔if the judge wanted to reward Kuvira for her help, they should’ve just tacked off a few years instead (assuming she got a life sentence at the minimum).

The fact that Suyin allowed Kuvira to stay in their home without telling Baatar and assuming that he would be okay with that??? Like I don’t think anyone would want to be a few feet away from the person who almost killed them. Also, Suyin was too forgiving after Kuvira betrayed them and almost killed her son likeeee. Yeah I love ya but imma need you get back in them platinum cuffs.

Overall, I don’t find it fair that Kuvira basically got a slap on wrist for everything’s she’s done. She gets to sleep on a comfy bed getting fancy meals everyday while all of those affected under her regime were struggling and tortured.

3 stars. Kuvira’s redemption arc is complete and it was great. I just thought this installment was pretty subpar. Everything was built up only for it all to resolve so easily and it was very anticlimactic. I wanted more action and the confrontation between Kuvira and Guan should’ve been a lot more exciting than what it was. Oh, well. This was still a great series.

This is everything I love about ATLA and LOK. Redemption, admitting fault, sitting with emotions. There are no easy outs, but redemption and change are always possible. Traits that constituted a character's villainy can be turned into an asset for good. This is one of my favorite comic arcs. I love Kuvira.

I enjoyed Kuvira’s transformation, but I’m not a huge fan of the plot that got her there. It felt hockey and easy in terms of the morality being so stark and without as much nuance as I’ve enjoyed from the Korra villains and villain plots from the show.

So far I’m not a huge fan of Korea’s comics.

This is a review for Ruins of the Empire as a whole, although I will be touching on all three parts. While the first part is slow in its setup, the majority of this story is engaging and a good continuation of the show. If you're going in hoping for a lot of great Team Avatar moments, you're not going to get that. While Korra herself has a few good moments, at times her dialogue feels a little wooden. The most interesting parts come from the political situation in the Earth Kingdom and from Kuvira herself. If you liked Kuvira as a character and/or thought she had potential for further stories, you'll get more or less what you wanted. I would've liked some of her flashbacks to have been a little more insightful, but they played their part. If you didn't like her character in the show, I'm a little uncertain this installment will win you over. There are a few memorable sequences, and Michelle Wong and Vivian Ng have an art style that fits with the show, though I find myself missing Gurihiru's work from the Last Airbender graphic novels. The ending, as other reviews have touched on, is a bit rushed, but it by no means ruins the story. Check the story out all at once instead of in parts, and if you go in with reasonable expectations, I think it'll be worth your while.

As I progressed through these comics, my hesitancy towards the idea of giving Kuvira a redemption arc grew and grew. I had hoped that it would be executed well, and it was to a point, but I think the ending just ruined the immersion of the story for me. Without going into spoilers, the punishment delivered unto Kuvira does not match her crimes at all; it barely even scratches the surface. I understand that the writers may have just wanted to give young readers a 'happy ending' or something, but the implausibility of the situation just made me see the puppet strings tethering this story along. The individual comics were still enjoyable, but the conclusion was undoubtedly disappointing for me.

Kuvira has got to be one of the most charismatic villains I’ve known. I never really hated her in the show, but I also never understood her character as much as I do now. I believe in second chances and seeing her own up to her mistakes was really big.

“I just hope that by taking full responsibility for what I’ve done, I can begin to heal some of the pain I’ve caused.”

'Eh. You win some, you lose some.'

Ahhh I cannot believe this is the end already. I want more Korrasami! Each volume does read like one episode of the show and I'm more than grateful we got a bit of a continuation but I do wish there'd be more arcs down the line.

As this is the last volume of the arc, there was a lot of focus on various characters and not so much on Korrasami as everything wrapped up. While I can and do understand that, I do wish we'll just get one of those fillers comics where it's just them much like the beginning of the Turf Wars' first volume. Oh well.

I did wish Lin Beifong made a cameo but Toph kinda made up for her absence, hee.

KORRA WILLING TO BE A TEST SUBJECT FOR ASAMI, OTP SHIT >>>>> Their choice of pajamas is so them, though haha.

As for Kuvira, kinda still thinking about her redemption arc. I don't hate it but hmm. It's no secret that she still believes what she did was right but is willing to admit she went too far and wants to right her wrongs (in the most Kuvira fashion at that, heh). She really got me in the first half. Oh and I totally forgot she was engaged at one point in the way that what do you mean she's not bi? Maybe she is and we just don't know. 👀

Amazing end to this story. I love how all the characters have such depth to them - for instance, seeing Opal and Kuvira fighting as children really hit home. Kids can be arrogant and cruel, but they often reflect the world around them, and that doesn't make them irredeemable. This is first and foremost a Kuvira redemption arc, but you end up seeing multiple characters coming to terms with their past actions. The reunion of Kuvira and Baatar Jr. was heartbreaking, but actually made me think hard about both sides. And can you get any more perfect than all three generations of Beifongs kicking major ass together?? I loved all of it, and hope that we someday get more of the LOK universe in graphic novel form.
