I am death. My face is the last thing my targets see before I snatch their souls from their bodies. I gain strength from their fear and pleasure from their screams. Just hearing my name will make a mother fucker think twice about crossing me. In my line of business there is no weakness and there’s definitely no room for love. At least that’s what I used to think until her little feisty ass came back into my life. She came in like a wrecking ball and bringing all kinds of havoc with her. Now someone has the audacity to think they can take her from me. Fuck no. Her mind, body and soul belong to me. I am the Snatcher of Souls and I will snatch life from anyone who tries get in between me and my queen even if that means burying the man who made me.

Dear Lord... where do I begin? I struggled through this book, and I should kick my own ass for actually finishing it. I think the easiest - and less taxing way to write a review for this hot mess - is with bullet points (well, okay... asterisks):
* GRAMMAR AND EDITING ISSUES GALORE! Typos, wrong words, run-on sentences, weird sentence structures, oh my! I got a headache rereading shit and trying to figure out what the author meant. Even if the grammar issues were at a minimum, the writing was clunky and just plain ugly. Note to author: If you can't or won't use an editor, try the free version of ProWritingAid; it could be your best friend!
* Continuity issues and feats of unbelievable time twists: If Axl impregnated Monica when they were in high school, why is their daughter a young girl not even in school yet, when it's around 10-15 years later? WTF? With that, there is a scene in which Monica takes the kid for a bath, yet a few sentences later, she's still in the kitchen talking with everyone else?
* When Monica's view is introduced, the reader gets a huge info dump about her life right after Axl breaks into her house. That's a lot of stuff going on in her head in the short time she's tussling with dude on the floor.
* The one sex scene was gross, and not sexy AT ALL. Exactly how much spunk junk is required?
* While Axl and his kid were probably the best characters in the book, the rest of the folks were two-dimensional cartoon characters. The mob guys were buffoonish, and Monica's drug-dealing brother came across as a second-rate DMX in a third-rate movie.
I don't get all of the rave reviews here. I really don't. I will say that the only thing I liked about this book was the cover. I don't think I'll read anything else by this author, and this book will be deleted from my Kindle now. You know... I like this style of review! If I think of any other items, I can add more BULLETS!
DNF at 50%. I could not finish the book. I hate to do a DNF no matter how much I’m not connecting with a book but I just couldn’t on this. Writing seemed disjointed, random parts would be really descriptive but then I couldn’t place the time line. Isn’t Alex supposed to be about 10 years old? Why is she being written like a 4 year old? I have too many questions and not enough patience to try and find the answer. 1 star from me
I absolutely loved this book! Axl was the sweetest man around, if you don’t count the fact that he is a hit man nicknamed The Snatcher of Souls! At least he gave a good word to the people before he killed them. I adored the way he loved Monica and his family! You gotta love a man who isn’t afraid to cry.
Listen, at the beginning of the story I got the feel good vibes as Axl, a poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks, meets Monica, a pretty black girl who is smart and nice. They are inseparable until that fateful night. That’s when the story turned dark. After Axl and Monica lose their virginity to each other, he returns home floating on cloud nine.
That was short lived because when he entered his home, there were gunmen there holding his family hostage. Long story short, Axl’s alcoholic degenerate gambler of a father trades him to the man he owes money to in order to clear his debt.
From there he is held captive, beaten, abused and turned into a lethal killing machine. The story builds from there. I won’t get too far into the plot because I don’t want to give away key elements.
The storyline is great and the way the author spins the tale keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. I hope each brother will have their own story, as well as Monica’s brother. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more of her work. Kudos for a job well done.
Let me just say.. for this not being a paranormal book from Lady Sonja B, I applauded the person who challenged her to write this book!!! So glad it became live early. Once I started reading about Axl, I could not put it down. You have action, killings, brotherhood, steamy sex, and betrayal with a splash of romance! Sonja B did not disappoint! I challenge you to read about Axl’s past, present, and future with Monica. Just have your pistol ready to fight along with the Snatcher of Souls!! I’m Looking forward to the next book in the SALVANT BROTHERS series!!
Axl is the snatcher of souls, murdering hitman with a heart of gold. His love for his brothers and the love of his life, Monica, is undeniable. How can a man with so much darkness also be capable of caring and loving his family so much? Well, he's had a tough go at life, but he never lost sight of what's important to him. Well-written love scenes. Nothing too gratuitous. Lots of action, kind of sad background story, but good stuff. Quick read. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading about the other two Salvant brothers.
The first few lines made me put the book down and pause. Very graphic. I kept reading knowing that it would be okay. I was so right!! What a great story and the characters were awesome. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Felix and Adam, here I come!
Axl and Monica fell in love when they were just teenagers. Axl's family came from the wrong side of the tracks but she didn't care. When Axl's dad owed too much money to the wrong people so he was given as a trade. He was beaten, tortured, and locked up for years. During the time he was being trained to become a monster. All he wanted was his siblings and Monica back. Would they recognize this person he has become. Read on to find out.
Axl had a hard life. I know that his dad was wrong, but I feel like him and Monica may not have made it without the drama he went through. Romano was wrong for taking his son through that then on his death bed want Axl to forgive him. Glad Nolan took out Jullian. Now ready for book 2.
This was a okay start to the Salvant brother’s series. I was expecting a hot romance btw Axel and Monica; unfortunately there wasn’t of any btw the two . The author spent more time describing Axel’s background than she did developing the love story of him and Monica. I am hoping Felix and Kierra’s story have more spice and depth to it
Axl Salvant must have had a constitution made as tough as diamonds to survive what he'd been through. His piece of crap father or the man he thought was his father traded him to pay off his gambling debt. Axl's family life was hell. With him gone, he worried about his mother and little brothers and the girl he loved, Monica. Andres Romano was a brutal mafia Don that had Axl trained to be the Snatcher of Souls. It was a long road to his independence and his body bore the scars to prove it. And he was excellent at his job until one day his past life caught up with him. What he thought he would never have again was right there before him. He also had his brothers Felix and Adam back. He was more of a father to his brothers than their father ever was. He would make sure they were protected and safe. Now he had to make sure people from his past did not mess up his future.
Sonja B. write a story that kept my attention. It was full of drama and action. My heart went out to Axl. He didn't ask for the life that he was thrown in. What he did do was take advantage of everything he learned to protect those he loved. I was so happy to read that Axl and Monica get to have their "happy for now" moment, as I am sure stuff, will hit the fan with Axl's made profession especially since his sperm donor wants to make amends after all the training crap he put Axl through.
The only problem I had with this story is that the author needs to re-edit this book as it has grammatical errors throughout that inhibits the flow of the tale being told. I find that if an author on a budget, uses text to speech to listen to their created story, they could hear the errors and correct them before sending their creation to an editor.
DNF - quit at 10% I picked this up after seeing it recommended on a Facebook post. Wasn't sure what I was actually getting into with it, as the Facebook page was mainly alien romance, & the blurb somehow led me to believe it was paranormal, but I believe it was actually a Mob or Assassin type of contemporary book. The short bit I did read was just way too violent for my tastes, and the way the book was written, though it portrayed the male main character well -considering what he does for a living, was just too much for my tastes. Others may like this book, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
Romano and Axl's step dad was sorry dad's . Axl was turned in too straight killer cause of his sorry step dad sold him to his bio father Romano in return for his debt of money he owed Romano would be paid through Axl. Axl losted so much his love of his life, his brothers in the foster system, and his mom from suicide. But, he never lost his dignity even with all the horrible things that was done to him Axl survived it all. I loved this book it's a must read. It's a lot of twist and turns but good ones. At least Axl received his happy ending at the end with being reunited with his love of his life Monica and their Daughter Alex, she so adorable.
It started of well and I was happy I purchased the book at first. Then things failed to make sense. The author seemed to have forgotten math (10+5=15 years). That is how long Monica and Axl would have been apart, meaning their kid would be 14 at least. Even if I over looked that error and the grammatical errors, the dialogue and behavior for Alex was more like that of a 5 year old.
Then there is the dialogue and behavior between Felix and Keirra like two immature kids.
Not my cup of tea. But will try one more in the series based on the good beginning and hope for the best
Axl Salvant did not have the best life growing up, but he’s done okay for himself since. However, when he find himself in a complicated situation with his ex, he realizes that “okay” isn’t enough anymore.
That’s summary sounds like a whole other book, but I’m not rewriting it. There was a ton of telling going on in this book, and not enough showing. I’ve never rolled my eyes so much, and I’ve read quite a bit of Blue Saffire’s works. Maybe Sonja B gets better with the other Salvant brothers, but Axl definitely wasn’t it.
Yessss, this was awesome, short but so full of action, the back story really helped to get a feel For this series. Not to spicy but the fee parts were great, Monica and Axl got their hea
Wow! I really enjoyed this story I felt for the male character all that he had to endure. I would recommend this story and can't wait for the brothers stories.
DNF @ 41% Paige 53 of 124. Just . . No NOT because of racial differences! The whole story is choppy, juvenile and BEYOND belief. Not to mention the editing!”
I am now a forever fan!!! I love Sonja B. books and this one is no exception. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I will definitely read the next installment.
The book was great, full of intrigue and romance. What Axl had to endure was just inhumane. A few things stayed in suspense for me though. For instance, why would Romano treat him like that knowing he was his son? I understand he had a similar treatment while growing up but you would have thought that if he really wanted Axl to accept him, he would have told him who he was, groomed him into the position and got his loyalty by helping his brothers rather than alienate him. This part made no sense to me. I know Axl refused to talk to him in the end but I think the book would have benefited from that conversation. Also given their world, if people know who Axl is he may inherit a bunch of ennemies, would be good to be forewarned. That didn’t mean all was forgiven. Axl attitude was shortsighted. I know the brothers idealized their mother but to me she was as culpable as Sergio. I know she was abused but she could have left, if only to protect her children, then she let Romano take him instead of fighting or offering herself and to top it all of, she committed suicide leaving her sons unprotected. I imagine she probably suffered from depression, however to me she was no saint. I was disappointed that Axl continued being a hitman. Why? He had enough money and with his family, I would have thought he would find a less dangerous profession. Use some of these fighting skills in a positive way. The book ended with somewhat of a cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to more of his adventures. Please could we have at least one brother who isn’t with a black woman? It ends up being a bit cliché.
Turned into the monster until he rediscovered his love
I really did not want to get invested in the Salvant series I wanted a sappy happy love story I guess. I read that it was a story of redemption and decided to revisit it. Just as in the real world good people can do very bad things. Getting Axl's back story and how protective of his loved ones he was really changed my mind about the brothers. Romano and Rocco were so evil though in dehumanizing Axl that I could not invest in the snatcher of souls. I understood it before he got his family back. He had no reason to get out or change, but I wanted him to. I also understand wanting to keep his brothers safe. Whe man he rediscovered Monica and discovered Alex his heart opened even more. I love that Monica's love was forever and that she met him where he was. She immediately told Alex that was her father without even knowing why he left. I love their love. The only thing I did not like was Axl still being a hitman after he was freed from his insane biodad. The only freedom and redemption. He seemed to have found is the freedom to choose who to kill. Them go home and kiss his daughter, who immediately accepted and adored him goodnight? I am glad he has his family or I can't imagine how dark his world would have been. Love binds wounds.
This was a good story but could have been so much better, there are a few things missing. The sparkle I kept waiting for never happens, the story reads like you have stumbled on the middle of movie. I would have loved just a little bit more dialogue between Axl and Monica . I mean the is a couple who are high school sweethearts and they meet again when he comes to kill her. I would have loved to see them work at this relationship and family merging. There are quite a few typos that take away from the story and seriousness of the scene. I also think we could have got a little more of the person Axl had become. This was good but I was looking for great and didn't get it. Is it worth your reading time? The answer is yes if you can get pass the typos and the story just falling flat.
OK this was pretty good!!! I enjoyed the love story, I enjoyed the brotherhood between Axel and his younger brothers, I enjoyed even his interactions with Romano who was actually his father. Once we got further into the story there was a clearer picture as to why Romano treated Axel the way that he did. I enjoyed the conflict between Axel, Nolan, and Julian and Rocco. Again this was pretty good!! Felix and Kierra, I cannot wait to read their story because I believe that will be explosive. I would have given this four stars if it had better editing and less typos. The flow of the story was very good and it would’ve been great had there not been so many missed words, punctuations and things of that nature. I can’t wait to read the next book on the Salvant Brothers.
Axl had a hard life but despite it all he wasn’t a harden person. Even with him being the Snatcher of Souls, he loved his family. I expected this story to be darker and bloodier even. However, it wasn’t. Axl didn’t kill enough to be labeled the Snatcher of Souls. His line was catchy but you only saw them applied once or twice.
The story became slightly predictable at points.
I don’t have much to say about Monica. She was feisty but for a woman that was abandoned by a man she feel back into Axl’s arms and bed a little too fast for my taste.
Despite it all, I would recommend this book to my reading friends to see how our opinions compare.
The Salvant Brothers came from a background which would have destroyed anyone but it made Axl Salvant stronger. While tossed into a negatve situation he always kept the love for Monica deep inside. The author, Sonja B, brings the dealings of the drug world and how it destroys relationships. But Axl and Monica's love for one another was still strong even after being away from one another for years. This book not only shows love but it displays greed, torture and betrayal. But most of all it shows how a family came together even from undesirable circumstances. With the continuous action and themes I couldn't put this book down. I highly recommend it.
Axle, Adam and Felix Salvantwe’re brothers who lived in the hood and being white had them earning rights to be respected. Axle was the oldest and he vowed to take care of his brothers. While their father decided to owe the crime boss Andres Romano (who has his own agenda) the race of is easy pay fo his debt, his oldest son will do. Not only will Axle leave hi family but the love of his life Monica. Several years later Romano has a trained killer/hitman the Soul Snatcher in Axle. One request from Romano will lead Axle back to two loves and he will encounter people he thought he would never see and people he owed a true azz whipping. Monica has her own surprises but end the end luv and familiars what matters even if you have to walk away from some.
I first want to say that I'm so in love with this book cover and it matched very well with the book itself. It's so sad what happened to Axl being ripped from his home and the hardships that he endured by both fathers but it made him stronger and an over comer. I'm glad that he got Felix and Adam and moved them in with him. I'm loving the relationship between Axl, Monica, and Alex. Rocco and Julian got what they deserved for their treachery. I can't wait to see what happens next with Felix and Keirra and who Adam's love interest is. I don't see Andres Romano letting Axl go so easily because he claims that he wants forgiveness from his son and to take over his empire.
