the moon is a poetry collection that illuminates the phases of the human experience in all its lightness and darkness. It is the first book in the nothern collection with 4 books coming out in 2020.Written and illustrated by instagram poet and artist, Kamilla Toln, the moon guides readers through a journey that is both familiar and unknown. The poems tell stories of loss, love, grief, struggle, transformation, and most of all, hope.Just as the moon orbits earth, the moon poetry book revolves around its reader, their resilience, their healing, and their growth. the moon will always be there when you need her most. All you have to do is turn the page.
Kamilla Tolnø - better known as K.tolnoe – is a Danish writer and poet. She is known for her way to express complex emotions with simple words and minimalistic drawings. In 2017, she started sharing her art on social media and has since gained a large, loyal following from all over the world. Her characteristic minimalistic style and sharp imagery has also caught attention from world renowned celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Khloe Kardashian and Gigi Hadid.
Her debut poetry collection was released in 2020 and “the moon” reached #1 bestseller in her category. The series has since then become complete with “the orchid”, “the ocean” and “the wolf”. The series is written for those struggling with finding their sense of self.
you don't want me close. and you don't want me gone. you prefer me to be. in the periphery of your life. always in touch. but never in love. is my timing wrong? or am I that hard to love?
From night-time anxieties to wistful ruminations on the desperate feeling of love, Kamilla builds a world, in which we can say “Hey, that’s how I feel too” and then be comforted when she gives us the wise words to summarise all. Her writing is tight and expertly created; The Moon sits beautifully as the first in a series of books and I don’t doubt they will make waves in the industry. And it cannot be glazed over that the illustrations seen in the book are also done by Kamilla; simplistic but stunning images that are a gorgeous accompaniment to the pieces they sit beside. She is a passionate and often optimistic writer, with a flair for the spiritual. The moon is best served with a tea or a hot chocolate in the middle of a silent evening under covers.
Well, the illustrations are really cute. I imagine they’d make fine tattoos. Some of the short poems too, really. However, overall this wasn’t for me. I thought the symbolism of the moon was pushed too much and overall this lacked depth to me, although I did appreciate the underlying theme of mental health.
Maybe Instagram poetry just isn’t my cup of tea though.
I have been looking forward to finally dive into K. Tolnoe’s poetry! Her collections are short and can be read in one sitting.
The Moon is a collection of poetry that covers various different topics, and contains beautiful imageries and amazing metaphors. I am sucker for all moon and stars aesthetics so reading this one was marvelous.
There are some really beautiful, contemplative and relatable pieces and I really enjoyed how the collection was all divided.
The artwork was just incredible as well! I totally understand why lots of people get her artwork tattooed on their bodies, it is STUNNING!

This was quite an experience. I come to the conclusion that modern instagram poetry is not for me. I get why people like it. It's simple, it has little doodles and it's shallow. For me it was just boring and didn't make a lot of sense. Sometimes I had the feeling the author didn't know either what she was writing about.
I liked the artwork and the sentiment behind the poems. It seems sincere and I can understand why someone would find comfort and inspiration in the words. As poetry, though, I found it too simplistic and undeveloped to be satisfying.
„The Moon“ war die erste Poesie, welches ich gelesen habe. Ich habe mich sofort in den ganzen Illustrationen verliebt, vor allem wie diese sich zu den jeweiligen Dichtungen angepasst haben. Ich war dem Mond noch nie so nah :)
"All the rage and blame that are filling up your lungs will not let you breathe fire, only burn you up; You must practice forgiveness towards all and start with yourself" ― k.tolnoe, The Moon
Absolutely in love with this poetry collection. I've always adored K.Tolno's words on Instagram. Was excited she came up with book. My soul feels so full after reading this one, such a peaceful read it is. I'm a very Happy Reader.
Gorgeous poetic writing. I follow the author on Instagram and I am so glad I do. Their words will touch you and some go straight to the heart. Loved this!
This is such a beautiful book! I have read it twice and I can say it gets better each time. Her words ar literally therapy! Totally recommend all to read it.
One of the most beautiful poetry collections i've ever read. I recommend "the moon" to everyone's struggling right now. You are not alone, you are loved.
It is the saddest and happiest yet most constant truth that everything changes even what once seemed so certain the idea of wrong and right may be twisted in the hands of time the solid ground of fact on which we stand and fall may wither way or fall apart when things end and when they start it is a curse for even what we thought we knew what we felt was ours to keep can be taken away in an instant but it's also a blessing for it seems that we can change and become something else even what once felt impossible
This is the first book of poetry that I ever truly read. I took my time reading this book and I’m overwhelmed with the way it left me feeling. There’s nothing like it and I’m glad I started my poetry readings with such an amazing author. Rating: 4 stars
2.5 / i wouldn’t say i disliked this book but i didn’t really do much for me either. i resonated with a few of her works and i can see how this can be comforting to some people but idk ?? i feel like if i had read these poems and (??) on instagram i might’ve enjoyed them more, maybe it was just reading them all back to back that kinda ruined it for me;( might reread in the far future if i ever feel like it
I liked this book. It has cute drawings and nice poems with mostly uplifting messages. But there isn't really anything more to it. The poems are just nice. It's pretty simple instagram poetry. I did like quite some poems and found them relatable, but none of them *really* stuck with me or touched me on a deep level. It was a nice book to read one or two poems from very now and then, but nothing really special to me personally.
Generally speaking, I think the book overall is a good and simply poetry book which includes short as well as longer poems along with cute artistic drawing. I like the style of the author's writing and I could relate to some of her sayings which are mostly uplifting. Although, if you are searching for poems that are more into depth, this book might be not the best for you.
So to get started: I absolutely fell in love with two or three of the longer poems in here. I also, over the course of reading, came to love how the author paints pain as a part of the human experience without glorifying it. I did like the book.
But overall, there are a lot of poems or little lines that feel too simple for me personally. I see how some would find comfort in this kind of poetry, however it just is not for me. Some of the one-liners felt like just filling in space as well, so yeah...
But it definitely is a nice, quiet kind of read and a cute little gift for friends.
perfection, for me. i feel that this book captures everything i feel in my mind. this is my way of thinking, written in such a way that it travels straight to my heart. so simple, so powerful, so beautiful. the moon the moon the moon <3
