It’s a honky-tonk life out on the asteroid belt and not the good kind.
When things go well, life is fine. Find some work, do the job, get paid, and keep flying. But since when did things go well?
It is always a bit risky picking up a job for the Order of Bo, but it’s a tough season, and the pay is good. But what seemed like a simple courier job just got a little bit more complicated. With a missing ship, a shifting rendezvous point, and a system full of misogynistic pigs, Karen and her companion Fluffy have their work cut out for them.
Oh yeah, and then there is the dragon which apparently no one else can see…
Life is not quite fine.
Love space cowboys? Hate the patriarchy? Join Karen and her cat Fluffy for an adventure like no other.
Although I do not care for partial books, this one was very interesting. I really got into the story. It was funny and exciting. Unfortunately, I just don't care for series type books. It is too much like comic books. To really identify with the characters and then be let down. You have the characters stranded in a mountain with no vehicle or ship. Cargo not delivered, young girl on her own. That's a pretty bad ending to a story. In fact it is too much like a comic book where you have to keep buying the comics to get the next to find out what is going on. The book is good but I don't care for series books unless you can get the whole story up front.
The book is a bit of a mess. The plot is all over the place. For such a short page count, it tries to do too much. I did not like the author's writing style. The shifting between 1st person and 3rd person perspective, in the middle of scenes, was distracting.
I’m not sure how to rate this book. It’s either pretty good, or really bad. Regardless, I think I must read the second book in the series to see if I can make that determination.
The cast is very fun, in a black-and-white stereotypical way. Karen is delivering the package to the scariest people in the system, and she is having a problem.
Very quirky characters, but liked the book for the most part. Would have been better without the bad language. There were a few spelling and grammatical errors but it was not what I expected. Fluffy and Karen kept me amused throughout the whole book and Chet, well, lets just say Chet is in a category all by himself. All in all, a good read.
The story line is not finished but resolved sufficiently for satisfaction. The characters are not dimensioned but show enough depth for growth in further novels. It was light fun reading I will probably buy the next in the series.
