When Midas and his crew of paranormal investigators take on the Historic Oakleigh Mansion they assume they'll encounter a few residual haunts but they're completely wrong. Besides the standard Lady in Black sightings and the sounds of crying children, a newer more modern entity threatens the Mobile landmark. The paranormal activity escalates in the cookhouse and an evil presence hides in a hidden room. When Midas enters the forgotten space he meets a spirit he'll never forget. Can Cassidy sketch the secrets of Oakleigh? Will Sierra and Joshua find the answers the client needs?

Bullock builds some excellent tension in this latest book in the Gulf Coast Paranormal series. Much of it is in the main storyline, but the two best pieces are in the subplots.
In the main story, a ghost pushes a ladder over causing the man on the ladder to break bones. This results in an old crush of Midas’ calling in the Gulf Coast Paranormal crew to investigate and that investigation leads to a physical item that is attracting negative spirits and trapping more positive ones. It’s very interesting and takes a big step in expanding the foundations of Bullock’s paranormal world. But the subplots do that even better because both suggest that people—sensitives like Sierra and Cassidy—can use their abilities to harm less protected humans.
In the last book, we learn that Sierra’s mother-in-law may be having a problem with the supernatural. In the beginning of this book, we learn that an angry neighbor is behind the problem—and that has chilling implications. Then, in a separate subplot, an old art student of Cassidy’s seeks her out and messes with her, resulting in Cassidy getting very sick—a subplot that I sincerely hope Bullock will pursue. Could it be that the success of the Gulf Coast Paranormal team in resolving so many cases with a spirit unable to rest is starting to have repercussions as negative entities would like to put an end to their activities? That notion has not yet been brought up in the book, but it certainly seems possible after Bullock introduced these two problems. I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
I seriously didn't want this book to end. Omg where to start...so many unfinished questions . Like what happened to the baby? Did Minnie ever get closure? Maybe this one can be revisited later.
A good editor and just careful attention would help the stories flow better. The first stories in the series were well done; I overlooked some awkward sentence structures. Unfortunately as of late, the attention to the editing seems to be lacking. The stories however are enjoyable as well as the locations. I will read the other series as well. I hope they live up to my expectations.
I usually love M L Bullocks books, and to some extent this was no exception. My complaint is the characters were not fleshed out enough, and the ending was very sudden, leaving multiple questions unanswered. It's like she suddenly just decided to stop writing. Very disappointing! I kept looking at the last page, saying to myself "is that it?" Once again the editing was horrible. Stop rushing the books and clean up your act!
Full of ghostly drama! It had an intense storyline that had me glued to every page. I've enjoyed these characters from the beginning. I can't wait to get started on the next book!
It was well written, however, the characters were not as well developed as I would have liked to see. It was a short book and I had not read the other books written with the same characters. I would have liked to have read one more chapter depicting the burial of the board.
As usual Monica writes so that you feel the chills ! I love all of her books but they need to be so much longer so the chills last. All of the places she writes about are quite familiar to me.
M. L. Bullock certainly knows how to tell a story! I found myself unable to stop reading this one. The setting was so easy to imagine but the characters from the past really felt real. One of my favorite series.
Outstanding. I loved this book. Can't wait to see what happens at the mother-ins house. Like always Monica does it again. Pick your copy up today. You won't regret it
