Mark E. Moore is a teaching pastor at Christ's Church of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona, one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic churches in America. Here he leverages two decades in a college classroom teaching New Testament. His goal is to make Scriptures accessible and relevant to people trying to make sense of Christianity. His two worlds of academic Bible study and practical Christian living come together in this powerful tool called Core 52.
Youth Pastor Matt Kelley challenged the students to read this book during 2022. It was a good idea, but the kids were supposed to read it on their own in groups of 2-4. Daniel teamed up with Brett and Liam, but their group never got serious about reading this book. So he and I read it together for several months, but after Matt left the church in March/April 2022, interest was lost in keeping up with the book. While we were reading it and keeping it, we enjoyed watching the videos online that accompanied the adult version of this book. Overall, I think it was very good intentioned, but was a lot to keep up with each week for a year. Like my friend Ginger often reminds me, time is best spent just reading God's Word, simply reading the Bible, it's so easy for us to get distracted on reading so many devotionals and books about the Bible, instead of just reading the Bible itself.
Youth Pastor Matt Kelley challenged the youth to read this book during 2022. He asked the kids to group themselves into groups of 2-4 and read the book on their own. Daniel was grouped with Brett and Liam, but he ended up reading the book with mom. We watched the videos online that accompanied each chapter (for the adult edition of this book). It was a challenge to keep up with this book along with the other books we were reading. I like the intent of this book, but the advice of my good friend Ginger rings true - just use that time instead to read God's word - just read the Bible!! Good advice!

This is a very good guided study for students, and provides clarity in many questions learners have surrounding the Christian faith. It is well-structured and evenly paced to equip students to grow in their knowledge of Scripture as well as key beliefs in biblical Christianity. I highly recommend this book for individuals paired with mentors, or with small groups of students. A discussion element will help readers process and have accountability for applying the topics covered. Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced digital copy in exchange for this honest review.
